TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
• Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.


• The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
• There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

Jyushimatsu Matsuno | Osomatsu-san

[ scenario one ]

[his eyes blink open suddenly. he has been jolted awake from... he doesn't know. a deep sleep? a dream? but the bed he's in doesn't feel like their old futon, and there are no other bodies beside him. he sits up in the creaky bed, looking around, and his fears are confirmed. he's not at home, and his brothers are nowhere in sight.

why is he wet? why is he all marked up? why does he feel awful? finally a doctor comes in, and Jyushimatsu tries to focus on his words, though everything that's happening right now is kind of a blur. usually, he wakes up from sleep refreshed and energetic! right now, he simply feels lost. and alone.

after about an hour, the doctor sends him on his way into Vandare so that he can get a look around. he's still not quite sure of what's happening, but it sounds like the locals do. they tell him that lots of people are brought to Ryslig this way, and to be careful because he's going to turn into a monster...? what? small books and pamphlets are shoved at him. "How To Deal With Changes." um.

he listens as patiently as he can for a while, but with them all talking loudly, and over one another, Jyushimatsu starts to lose his self-control] Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP! [and then he's running off towards the water. maybe... maybe he can swim home! he's a really good swimmer! okay, this is a great idea. he sees the docks, and he's headed straight for them]

[ scenario three ]

[just when Jyushimatsu thinks he's starting to get used to Ryslig, that is when he starts feeling it creep in on him. what is it, exactly? he doesn't know, but it prickles his skin, makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up straight. his cheek twitches, and he has to stop swinging his bat for a moment.

he presses his palms to his eyes, hoping that will help him somehow, but it doesn't. that weird feeling is still there. and when he brings down his hands to look at them, something is... not quite right.

he can see the ground through them.

Jyushi reels back, terrified. that's... that's not supposed to happen! maybe it was just his mind playing tricks on him. right? right... he takes a few deep breaths, moving his hand to rest on the wall so that he can lean against it.

and he falls right through. he falls through the damn wall. in a comedic fashion, even. how is this possible?!]

[ scenario five ]

[wildcard? want to play baseball? hit me up!]

[Jyushi isn't the only one who's suddenly been seemingly torn from home and brought here unannounced. It's even stranger to Jimmy that there aren't mostly monsters around right now, and that a lot of the people he's bumped into so far look...well, like him. That's not something he's used to, back home.

So when another person suddenly goes streaking past him, of course he's going to be looking that way. Everyone else has been stopping and talking to him, so why is this person...]

Woah! Hey, wait up!!

[Jimmy shouts as he takes off after Jyushimatsu, staggering a little before he regains his footing enough to follow. Didn't they just get dragged OUT of that water? What in the world is he doing?]

[neetfreak]

[for some reason, Jyushimatsu does decide to wait up. whether it's because of the boy calling to him, or because he seems to have realized he hasn't thought his plan through is unknown. he slows down once he gets on the dock, head bowed so that he can stare at the dark waters]

I don't know what's happening.

[awesmazings]

[Jimmy skids to a stop next to Jyushimatsu, panting once they're both at the water's edge. He glances from the stranger to the water and back, trying to decide what to do. Was he going to just jump in the water? It's weird enough that it isn't red like back home, but...hm.]

Hey...it's okay! I mean, I don't know what's goin' on either! But- why don't we figure it out together, yeah? We can ask around some more, see if anybody's got some more advice to give us!

[neetfreak]

[but what about... Jyushimatsu bites his lower lip as he watches the waves. they don't look safe at all, even though he is fairly athletic. it would be foolish to jump in. then again, he wasn't really known for being the wisest of their brothers.

brothers... where the heck are they? where is he?

after a few moments, he turns his head toward Jimmy and nods, expression still serious] I was talking to some people, but they kept bringing up monsters! [that doesn't explain how he got to this place]

[awesmazings]

Oh, yeah! It's weird, huh? I mean...people are acting like that's all strange and stuff...but there's lots of monsters back home.

[Jimmy's own expression is serious, but marginally less so. He looks more confused than anything.]

It's weirder seein' other people like...well, us, I think.

[neetfreak]

[eh? this kid had to deal with monsters near his home? Jyushimatsu wonders where he comes from!]

There aren't any monsters where I live! [sometimes his brothers could be monsters, if he was being honest about that] How do you handle it?

[awesmazings]

Really? None at all?

[Jimmy's brows furrow just a little as he shifts his weight from one foot to the other.]

Well gee...I mean, my best friend is a monster! So's his dad...and pretty much everybody else, so...it's really not that big of a deal.

[Jimmy's smile fades juuust a little, then, because he can tell that Jyushimatsu's...pretty freaked out right now.]

So it's different where you're from?

[neetfreak]

[he's dealing with a lot right now, trying to take things in one at a time]

Ah, mmn. [Jyushi nods, then rubs the back of his neck] No monsters. Just people. And animals.

Three!

[braidtrain]

[He falls through the wall in comedic fashion and happens to land across the path of a tiny harpy girl, who squeaks a little in surprise. She stops immediately, staring at the stranger, before chuckling a little and offering him a hand.]

Jeez, when people say that boys fall for pretty girls, I didn't think they meant it literally!

[A little humor to lighten the mood of what was probably embarrassing?]

[the humor is somewhat appreciated, though Jyushimatsu is mostly in shock because of... well, for falling through the wall, and because there is this... bird-like monster trying to talk to him. but he's not exactly scared of her, honestly. she doesn't give off that vibe.

he stays on the ground, thankful he isn't able to fall through that too. his eyes flick to the girl, then ahead of him]

This is what those people were talking about when I first got here. I'm turning into a monster. [oh, the creature is offering him a hand. Jyushi looks carefully at his own hands, they are still transparent, but then he moves to take her hand anyway. up we go!]

eeeeeee!!!!

[braidtrain]

[It would be pretty hard to be scared of her! She's all bright colors and happy smiles and a whole whopping 3'7" tall. She's like pocket sized. Up we go though! Once he's on his feet, she'll fold her wings up and tilt her head.]

Yup! That's probably what that is. Everyone goes through it eventually...yours is cool though! Imagine all the stuff you can do if you can walk through walls!

[The pranks you could pull, the things you could take from your brother when he's not paying attention, the surprise hug attacks, the possibilities are endless!]

[neetfreak]

[all those possibilities sound like they are right up Jyushimatsu's alley. pranks, surprise hugs, even borrowing things... maybe he'd find cool things to do after he was done freaking out about it.

why can't he be excited, like this girl? he's usually so happy! maybe he would be happier if he wasn't alone. he looks at his hand again, turning it over a couple times] I guess it's a little cool. [then tilting his head at the girl] Do you like being a monster?

[braidtrain]

[Well clearly, once he's done freaking out about it, she should join him and they should go prank some people! Mabel nods though, spreading out both of her wings.]

Yeah! It's really fun! I was just your average pre-teen girl before, but now I've got feathers and wings, and I can fly! I can turn into a bird too!

[Which she demonstrates immediately, the girl before disappearing with a gala cockatoo sitting on the ground in her place. She lifts one of her little feet and spreads her toes some, crest raising off her head.]

Look how cute I am!

[neetfreak]

Waaaah! [she did it! she turned into a bird! Jyushimatsu flails his arms, stuck in between weirded out and awestruck. he wonders what else he can do] A bird, a bird! You are super cute!

[braidtrain]

[There's even a believable peep from her! Giggling, she puts her foot back down, gesturing at him with her wing.]

Right? And lots of other monsters can do this kinda thing too. Werewolves and bears can turn into dogs and...bears. Manticores can turn into cats. I think even wendigos can turn into little deer. But even ones that can't turn into animals can do cool things. Faeries can make faerie rings that you can teleport through! And nymphs can make plants grow and bloom and that's always so cool to watch!

[This girl is a big advocate of how awesome monsters are. As long as you're ignoring the whole cannibal thing it's pretty sweet!]

[Jyushi listens carefully, mouth hanging open as the girl continues on. huh, you know? all that did sound pretty awesome. it would be fun if he could turn into an animal, or teleport, or who knows what else. gradually, he even begins to smile, drawn in by her positive attitude]

Hey, me next! What else can I do? [he leans in]

[Now, see - when a weird guy runs past Mahiru, normally she'd just give them a look and keep walking.
Except this guy's running right for the docks. He doesn't seriously think that's safe, right...!?
There's probably tons of hungry things down there, probably waiting for stupid newcomers like this one.

... And Mahiru's caring nature is too strong to ignore. So with a roll of the eyes, a few, swift strides of her bull legs, and one, strong jump - she leaps right over the weird little man with the bowlcut and lands in front of him.
With the attempt to catch Jyushimatsu, of course.]

Are you stupid!? You're going to get yourself killed!

[neetfreak]

[waaaaah! the docks shake when Mahiru lands right in front of Jyushimatsu. he jerks back before screeching to a halt]

Y-Y... You... [he's shaking like a leaf, staring at her form. what is she?]

[kirlian]

[A Minotaur. A very big, very red, very... fluffy Minotaur. With a huge tail that's flailing like a mace in annoyance.]

Oh, don't give me that -

[She's just going to... pick him up by his collar like a cat, and walk him right back up to the path where she drops him on his feet.
Or his ass. Whatever he lands on, really.]

Do you realize what you almost did to yourself? You're not even a snack to whatever's down there!
You should at least thank me for saving your life, you know!

[neetfreak]

[he lands on his ass, because he's a bit too scared for his feet to work properly. first he winds up in some strange town, and then he's alone, and now he's face to face with a real monster! ...actually, Jyushimatsu is more worried about being alone than he is scared of her. he wishes he knew where his brothers were, if they were even here]

...Thank you. [finally, it comes out softly, with Jyushi staring down at his lap. he was trying to get back home. ...but if there were other monsters in the lake, he probably wouldn't have gotten very far, huh?]

[kirlian]

[... Oh. Well, that's a sad face if she's ever saw one. She's going to kneel down then, so they're closer to eye-level; though she's definitely still taller than him. Her tail even curls around in front of her, trying to look as nonthreatening as possible.]

... How about you tell me why you were about to swim to your death?
I mean, you've got a reason, right?

[neetfreak]

[he sighs, still keeping his gaze down]

I thought I could swim home. I'm a really good swimmer.

[kirlian]

Being a really good swimmer doesn't keep you safe from whatever's floating down there, sorry to say.
I'm not really sure what's down there.
But I know that Merpeople exist - monsters like me, who are part fish. And eat little normal guys, like you.

[Which... just confirms that, yes, Mahiru's a monster and also fully capable of eating him, should she want to.
But luckily, she doesn't. ... She's trying not to think about the whole "eating people" thing, in fact.]

Look... you're probably scared about being in a new place with no one to help you out, right?
So...

[He's getting a hand held out to him, probably for a handshake. ... A very strange hand.
Small, hoof-like protrusions jut out from her wrist like the small dew claws on a boar or a deer, and she's obviously got enough strength to outright crush his hand if she wanted to.
But... she seems strangely gentle, despite it.]

... My name's Koizumi Mahiru. I'll help you out for today, okay?
But just for today - after that, you have to ask first before you get any help from me.

[neetfreak]

[that hand is presented to him, and Jyushimatsu stares at it for a few seconds, kind of marveling at the hooves, before he finally takes her hand in his wet sleeve. it is then that he looks up at her, studying her features. this girl may look like a monster, but he senses no malice in her. she seems like she genuinely wants to help him]

Ah, I'm Matsuno Jyushimatsu. [he tries to smile at her, but he's still a little nervous about the whole ordeal]
