TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[He falls through the wall in comedic fashion and happens to land across the path of a tiny harpy girl, who squeaks a little in surprise. She stops immediately, staring at the stranger, before chuckling a little and offering him a hand.]

Jeez, when people say that boys fall for pretty girls, I didn't think they meant it literally!

[A little humor to lighten the mood of what was probably embarrassing?]

[the humor is somewhat appreciated, though Jyushimatsu is mostly in shock because of... well, for falling through the wall, and because there is this... bird-like monster trying to talk to him. but he's not exactly scared of her, honestly. she doesn't give off that vibe.

he stays on the ground, thankful he isn't able to fall through that too. his eyes flick to the girl, then ahead of him]

This is what those people were talking about when I first got here. I'm turning into a monster. [oh, the creature is offering him a hand. Jyushi looks carefully at his own hands, they are still transparent, but then he moves to take her hand anyway. up we go!]

[It would be pretty hard to be scared of her! She's all bright colors and happy smiles and a whole whopping 3'7" tall. She's like pocket sized. Up we go though! Once he's on his feet, she'll fold her wings up and tilt her head.]

Yup! That's probably what that is. Everyone goes through it eventually...yours is cool though! Imagine all the stuff you can do if you can walk through walls!

[The pranks you could pull, the things you could take from your brother when he's not paying attention, the surprise hug attacks, the possibilities are endless!]

[all those possibilities sound like they are right up Jyushimatsu's alley. pranks, surprise hugs, even borrowing things... maybe he'd find cool things to do after he was done freaking out about it.

why can't he be excited, like this girl? he's usually so happy! maybe he would be happier if he wasn't alone. he looks at his hand again, turning it over a couple times] I guess it's a little cool. [then tilting his head at the girl] Do you like being a monster?

[Well clearly, once he's done freaking out about it, she should join him and they should go prank some people! Mabel nods though, spreading out both of her wings.]

Yeah! It's really fun! I was just your average pre-teen girl before, but now I've got feathers and wings, and I can fly! I can turn into a bird too!

[Which she demonstrates immediately, the girl before disappearing with a gala cockatoo sitting on the ground in her place. She lifts one of her little feet and spreads her toes some, crest raising off her head.]

Look how cute I am!

Waaaah! [she did it! she turned into a bird! Jyushimatsu flails his arms, stuck in between weirded out and awestruck. he wonders what else he can do] A bird, a bird! You are super cute!

[There's even a believable peep from her! Giggling, she puts her foot back down, gesturing at him with her wing.]

Right? And lots of other monsters can do this kinda thing too. Werewolves and bears can turn into dogs and...bears. Manticores can turn into cats. I think even wendigos can turn into little deer. But even ones that can't turn into animals can do cool things. Faeries can make faerie rings that you can teleport through! And nymphs can make plants grow and bloom and that's always so cool to watch!

[This girl is a big advocate of how awesome monsters are. As long as you're ignoring the whole cannibal thing it's pretty sweet!]

[Jyushi listens carefully, mouth hanging open as the girl continues on. huh, you know? all that did sound pretty awesome. it would be fun if he could turn into an animal, or teleport, or who knows what else. gradually, he even begins to smile, drawn in by her positive attitude]

Hey, me next! What else can I do? [he leans in]

[The strange bird gesturing continues as she brings a wing up to "rub" at her chin.]

Hmmmm...well if you're going through walls, I'm pretty sure that means you're a shade. And shades are these big shadow people! But they usually look pretty similar to how they do as a human. They look super spooky, with glowing eyes and everything, but in a really cool way. And they can shapeshift! Like I saw this one who could give himself wings if he wanted. Aaaaannnnd they can make things float and move around just by using their brain and thinking about it!

[Really awesome if you ask her.]

[SHAPESHIFT! Jyushimatsu practically vibrates with excitement. wasn't he scared just a moment ago? well, that freaky moment is in the past! now he's ready to shapeshift!

he sure found the right person to talk to about monsters] You think I could change into a baseball bat?

[Now that's what she likes to see! She takes a moment to shift back to her more human (but still very bird) form, excitement on her face. It's hard not to be excited when someone else is this excited about something.]

I bet you could! I've never been a shade before but I don't think there are any rules that say you can't! If you've got determination, I bet just about anything is possible!

[Mabel is probably the best but also the worst person to talk to about monsters. What? Painful, scary transformations? Eating humans? Potentially killing your friends and family?

Okay, sure, but consider: everything else is awesome and that invalidates all your arguments.]

I've got lots of determination! And I really like baseball! [calm down, Jyushi] Hey, hey, what do I have to do to change?

[he's clenching his fists now, imagining what it would be like to turn into a bat, or a baseball. oh, man! he'd have so much fun!]

You're set then! [He absolutely should not calm down!! Though that question is a little harder to answer.]

Well...I'm not really sure to be honest! I don't know how it really works for shades...when I wanna turn into a bird, I just concentrate on it until poof! It happens! But it took me a while to learn. The first time was totally on accident!

Plus everyone changes at different paces, so you may not be able to do it just yet...

[deflate! but just a little deflate. hm, so he has to concentrate?]

I'll try concentrating! [okay, here he goes! he closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, then begins to think about baseball. baseball games, baseball bats, baseball mitts, baseball players. ...man, now he really wants to play baseball! maybe he'd go to the diamond on the way home. oh, but he was also supposed to stop and pick up some groceries. OOH what if there's a sale on meat today? there probably isn't, but that would be so lucky!

...ah. wait... he opens his eyes]

Concentrating is hard! [and he's still himself]
