TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[waaaaah! the docks shake when Mahiru lands right in front of Jyushimatsu. he jerks back before screeching to a halt]

Y-Y... You... [he's shaking like a leaf, staring at her form. what is she?]

[A Minotaur. A very big, very red, very... fluffy Minotaur. With a huge tail that's flailing like a mace in annoyance.]

Oh, don't give me that -

[She's just going to... pick him up by his collar like a cat, and walk him right back up to the path where she drops him on his feet.
Or his ass. Whatever he lands on, really.]

Do you realize what you almost did to yourself? You're not even a snack to whatever's down there!
You should at least thank me for saving your life, you know!

[he lands on his ass, because he's a bit too scared for his feet to work properly. first he winds up in some strange town, and then he's alone, and now he's face to face with a real monster! ...actually, Jyushimatsu is more worried about being alone than he is scared of her. he wishes he knew where his brothers were, if they were even here]

...Thank you. [finally, it comes out softly, with Jyushi staring down at his lap. he was trying to get back home. ...but if there were other monsters in the lake, he probably wouldn't have gotten very far, huh?]

[... Oh. Well, that's a sad face if she's ever saw one. She's going to kneel down then, so they're closer to eye-level; though she's definitely still taller than him. Her tail even curls around in front of her, trying to look as nonthreatening as possible.]

... How about you tell me why you were about to swim to your death?
I mean, you've got a reason, right?

[he sighs, still keeping his gaze down]

I thought I could swim home. I'm a really good swimmer.

Being a really good swimmer doesn't keep you safe from whatever's floating down there, sorry to say.
I'm not really sure what's down there.
But I know that Merpeople exist - monsters like me, who are part fish. And eat little normal guys, like you.

[Which... just confirms that, yes, Mahiru's a monster and also fully capable of eating him, should she want to.
But luckily, she doesn't. ... She's trying not to think about the whole "eating people" thing, in fact.]

Look... you're probably scared about being in a new place with no one to help you out, right?
So...

[He's getting a hand held out to him, probably for a handshake. ... A very strange hand.
Small, hoof-like protrusions jut out from her wrist like the small dew claws on a boar or a deer, and she's obviously got enough strength to outright crush his hand if she wanted to.
But... she seems strangely gentle, despite it.]

... My name's Koizumi Mahiru. I'll help you out for today, okay?
But just for today - after that, you have to ask first before you get any help from me.

[that hand is presented to him, and Jyushimatsu stares at it for a few seconds, kind of marveling at the hooves, before he finally takes her hand in his wet sleeve. it is then that he looks up at her, studying her features. this girl may look like a monster, but he senses no malice in her. she seems like she genuinely wants to help him]

Ah, I'm Matsuno Jyushimatsu. [he tries to smile at her, but he's still a little nervous about the whole ordeal]

Alright. Matsuno it is, then.

[Last names only for guys, sorry. That'll change when she finds out there's more.
But he's getting a smile right back! It's actually rather genuine, too, even though... guys do make her nervous.
And she's going to pull him up to his feet.]

So, because you're brand new, that means you've got nothing going for you, right?
No place to stay or anything?

[so many more Matsunos... it's kind of interesting to be called by his last name. that doesn't happen often, since Jyushimatsu doesn't work or attend school anymore. he doesn't know anyone who would address him so formally.

he gets to his feet with a shake of his head] No! I mean, I woke up in the hospital, but I don't know if they'll let me go back there.

Oh, no, trust me - you don't want to go back there.

[... She's actually going to brush him off a bit, too. Kind of like a mom would.
Because, let's face it - he talks like he's younger than her and he's quite a bit shorter.
She's just assuming, you know...]

If that's the case... I'm sure there's plenty of places that'll let you stay until you're on your feet. I mean, even my place might have a room for you, at least for a little a while.
So, how about we go look around the town together?

[the assumption isn't that far off. Jyushimatsu may be an adult, but he is definitely the most childlike out of all his brothers. the way he speaks, acts, he's quite immature, and so he has no qualms about being fussed over.

her words finally bring the sunny smile of optimism to his face, and, for a moment, he forgets that he's all alone in this crazy world, and instead just focuses on his new friend] Yeah! That'd be great! I don't know anything about this town!

Alright then - let's get moving, Matsuno. There's a lot of time before sundown, but I'd rather not waste a moment of this sunshine, you know?

[Said as she lifts her camera a bit, as if to show what she means. Photos in the sun are the best, after all!!
... In fact, Jyushimatsu's smile is so bright - she can't help snapping one of him, before they actually start going anywhere.]

So... what's your home like, anyway? I mean, if we're going to be friends, we may as well talk a bit, right?

[oh, hey! a picture! that's neat. Jyushi seems to have no problem getting his photo taken, either. he'll actually tolerate a lot when he's happy]

Yeah! [she said they were going to be friends! how nice! he feels so much better already] My home is back in Japan, in the Akatsuka Ward!

[That's good, because... being the SHSL Photographer, taking photos is kind of her thing.]

Mm, well, I figured you lived in Japan - but I meant more like...
What kind of stuff did you do at home? Like, I was a photographer, back at my home.
That kind of thing.

[Hobbies?? Family?? Anything?? Don't be vague, Jyushimatsu, it's weird.]

[what did he do, huh? he considers how to answer as he walks. were he any of his brothers, Jyushimatsu might take this opportunity to reinvent himself. Mahiru wouldn't know, right? he could give himself a job, or a girlfriend, or anything, really.

but Jyushimatsu is honest, and certainly not his brothers] Let's see, back at home, I lived with mom and dad, and played with my brothers! We get into all sorts of crazy messes!

[Ahh, that's pretty cute. This kid's definitely got a nice home life, then - living with his family and playing around.
Definitely a cute kid! ... Even though we all know better.]

So, you have brothers? What are they like?
I've never had any siblings of my own, you know; so it's fun to hear about it sometimes.

[Walking down the street... Her size probably makes him definitely look like he's just a cute kid.
Even if she holds herself like she's still a cute high schooler.]

[Jyushimatsu is looking around as they walk, curious and much more relaxed than he was earlier. talking about his brothers makes him a little sad, but he's trying to stay positive]

I have five other brothers! Most of them are older than me! I'm actually the second-youngest! [he is leaving out a lot of information there, quite possibly because it doesn't matter as much as their stupid age-ranking] There's Osomatsu-niisan, Karamatsu-niisan, Choromatsu-niisan, Ichimatsu-niisan, then me, then Todomatsu.

That's... a lot of brothers you've got, huh?

[Like, wow. Seriously. She can hardly stand living with her dad...
But then again, Jyushimatsu's a boy, too.]

They're nice, right? I mean, they're mostly your older brothers...
Do older brothers really pick on their younger siblings?

[If there's one thing she's learned, at this point, it's that not talking about friends and family just makes it harder.
So of course she's gonna keep him talking about them. Sorry, Jyushi. He can muscle through this!!]

[are they nice......... Jyushimatsu's expression becomes serious for a moment]

They're usually nice to me. Sometimes. [he probably has it the best when it comes to not being picked on, so he can't complain. but he can observe]
