TEST DRIVE, MARCH ROUND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • The reserve date has been announced.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[A-ya lifts his head slightly to actually look at the boy. He's younger than A-ya. He's also very easily frightened.

Could be fun to hang around him.]

Even if I answered with my name, it's not as though we know each other.
hirobotics: (no that's not what i want)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-02 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[He's at least relieved to see another person out in the forest like he is. He straightens slightly, trying to regain at least some of his composure before he speaks up.]

Yeah, but- At least you answering means you're not sneaking around and trying to kill me or something. Are you lost, too?
unconfirmed: ([just a prank])

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-02 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[He feels like that logic isn't quite right - someone could answer perfectly normally and still kill him - but he ignores it for now.]

Yes. I have no idea where I'm going at this point. I thought I'd investigate the disturbing laughter of children but you can never get closer to them.
hirobotics: (uhhhh... what am i looking at?)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-02 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hiro frowns a little. This guy clearly hasn't seen enough horror movies to know that investigating the disturbing noises is generally a Bad Idea.]

That's probably for the best, actually. You should really be looking for a way back to someplace that's, I dunno, safe.
unconfirmed: ([sigh boring rumours])

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-02 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Little does Hiro realise A-ya is in fact from a horror movie basically.]

I suppose. [He says it like he disagrees but he returns his attention to Hiro.] What brought you to the woods then?
hirobotics: (running down into exhaustion)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-02 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Horror movie characters don't know they're in a horror movie, though. Hence... the many mistakes they make. Still, Hiro looks a little confused, having picked up on that tone of voice. Why would anyone disagree with that?]

Oh- I was trying to find some kind of border. I thought I was on a proper path at first, but... [His frown deepens as he looks back out into the darkness of the woods.] This forest can't go on forever, right?
unconfirmed: ([just gonna get this guy killed nbd])

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
This place doesn't seem to follow the rules of logic. But it's also easy to get lost in a forest. You naturally favour your dominant leg and wind up walking in a large circle even if you try to go straight.

[A-ya pats his pockets and draws out a boxcutter.]

We can try marking the trees and go 'straight' that way.
hirobotics: (down to consider it)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[There's the tiniest bit of a groan that escapes him upon hearing that. No logic. No rules. No sense. It's enough to drive him crazy.

But at least this guy has a good idea with the boxcutter, so Hiro nods his agreement.]
Sounds like as good a plan as any.

Uh- I'm Hiro, by the way.

I'm A-ya. [He marks the tree and then decides he may as well be honest with this boy about his true purpose in this place.] I'm an occult fanatic. So I've been enjoying the stay here but I do suppose we need to get home.

[He moves ahead to mark another tree as they go.]
hirobotics: (that's a joke right? right?)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[And that gets Hiro to raise an eyebrow way up as he follows A-ya along. He's half-sure it's a joke, but... he did just meet this guy. Anything could be true, right?]

Really? An occult fanatic? So do you do the whole- [He gestures vaguely with one hand.] -lighting candles and chanting thing?

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-03 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
[He's never open with people at school about this but this seems harmless. Actually, it's a little fun to surprise people like this.]

Oh, nothing like that. That's something in movies. We've tried Kokkuri-san, we talk about the slit-faced woman, those sorts of urban legend rumours.
hirobotics: (feed the big brain)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[A-ya's so nonchalant about it that Hiro's starting to think he's just shooting the breeze with this topic. Which he can play along with, for the time being. No sense in turning down idle conversation, right?]

Wow, okay. So- what's the slit-faced woman?
unconfirmed: (pic#6734529)

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[He marks another tree. To A-ya this is a soothing topic. It's fun and interesting but more importantly, it's normal to talk about such strange things even in this creepy atmosphere.]

The way the story starts differs depending on region. But there was a very beautiful woman who was horrifically scarred in an accident. It caused a gash over her mouth, up the sides of her face. She committed suicide shortly later but her spirit still appears to people wearing a surgical mask to cover her disfigurement. She asks them "Do you think I'm pretty?"

If she asked you, how would you answer? There's only one real way to escape before she kills you, you see.
hirobotics: (so- pointing out one or two things)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Hiro's okay with horror stories. As a kid, his brother would share some of the creepy Japanese legends that their parents used to tell him, and all it really did was spark Hiro's imagination. So while it might not necessarily be soothing to him, he doesn't mind it at all.]

Well, you said she wears a mask when she shows up, right? How could I answer her if I don't actually see her face?
unconfirmed: ([fufufufufu])

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He smiles.] That's actually a good answer. If you question, her, she gets confused. If you say "you're just okay" or "average" or something along those lines, she won't kill you either. The way it goes, if you say 'yes', she takes off the mask and asks it again. If you say yes again, she'll cut your mouth too. If you say no, then she'll just kill you. Also if you say no from the beginning, she'll kill you.

[A-ya turns back to Hiro, still smiling.] It's a little believable if you imagine it as a woman stalking people out of spite instead of a spirit, right? People in the 70's actually were worried about it apparently.
hirobotics: (and i'm a monkey's uncle)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[He grins a little. Sometimes his survival instincts really help him out. Or at least he'd like to think they do.] Wow. That's... pretty crazy.

But you're right. I guess that sort of thing could just be some psycho obsessed with, y'know, standards of beauty or whatever. [He shrugs one shoulder.] Plausible, but still pretty out there.
unconfirmed: ([ju-on is better than ring])

[personal profile] unconfirmed 2015-03-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I like about it. It has a strange story but it sounds believable enough that if you spread a rumour that you saw a woman with a mask and scissors, people would become anxious.

[Such a fun personality he has. But he seems to like Hiro well enough. He likes anyone that goes along with his hobbies.]

Do you know any rumours or urban legends like that?
hirobotics: (consider the facts)

[personal profile] hirobotics 2015-03-03 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Urban legends, huh? Hmm. [He taps a finger to his chin as he thinks back, trying to remember a story that didn't come out of a horror movie or anything.]

Oh, here's one. There's a place in Ojai Valley - in California - where there was some really big wildfire a long time ago. According to the story, a man and his son lived up there and were trapped by the fire. The father died in the fire, but the son survived with some really bad burns. By the time people got up there to rescue them, the son had already gone totally nuts. He'd hung his father up on a tree and tore off all the burned skin, before disappearing into the mountains.

People say that sometimes the son shows up at people's camps in the area and attacks them, wanting to take their skin and replace his own with it. I think they called him Char-Man 'cause of how burned up he was.
