Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
As if he seemed to understand her thoughts, he put a hand on her shoulder.
"No matter what happens, we're still us, right? Our hopes and dreams don't change just because we have different bodies." It was true. Despite his urge to do more evil things and to consider humans above him, Yu still wanted to protect (in his own way) and aid others. His fuse was shorter, but nothing he couldn't work with.
"You'll look pretty no matter what you turn into," he adds without restraint. "I won't lie; I'm curious to see what you'll all turn into."
Sorry too busy being a demon to care about personal space, keeping things to himself and restraints. He laughs again, carefully pulling a wing over her shoulder this time.
"Maybe a pair of wings? Flying together in the sky..."
Okay someone needs to turn the swagmeter down. But he can't help it...it could literally happen any time at this point. The fact he won't be alone soon fills him with terrible, child-like glee.
How about turning off the swag? That might help a bit more. It doesn't help that the personal bubble is being violated again and all she can do is blush like crazy.
Impossible. Her reaction just pushes him to react farther. As long as she doesn't slap or push him away he'll just continue to nibble at her figuratively, listening to his instincts. Too bad he's really good at knowing which buttons to push or not.
"That shouldn't be a problem...I've got my own and I'll just carry you."
She would've made some kind of remark but with the heat, her body started to feel a dull ache all over. And she showed how much it started to affect her as she gripped tighter onto the demon.
He wished he could have more empathy and yes, there was a sudden worry as she gripped him. But the minute he realized what was happening, he couldn't help but smile a little, his heart skipping a beat. Sure, she could have caught a cold and was suddenly sick...but deep down he knew. And he knew that she probably was realizing it too. Maybe he should have said that out loud before if that's what all that was needed for a reaction...
But now Yukiko would be suffering for a while and if anything, he wanted to make this as painless as possible. He still remembered his own transformation. The wings sprung open as he quickly took her in both his arms, with the intent of returning right back to the area she had lost herself.
"Let's get you into a safer area." It didn't take long before they landed and he was violently swishing and pushing the nearby trees to form a makeshift bed for her.
She couldn't talk much because all she would be able to say was 'It hurts!' and that wasn't something they needed right now. The moment she hit the 'bed', Yukiko started to curl herself up into a tiny ball and trying to bite back any screams she would let out.
"Hurt...all over..." she whimpered as she covered her face to try and hide any signs of crying. She didn't see it but that long beautiful hair of hers was the first thing that would make anyone notice: the fact that it started to gain a different texture, almost...feathery in nature.
Seeing her in pain drove the demon in him to back up, as full on worry covered his face. He sat down next to her, wishing he could do more. He could see that the changes were already coming, as the feathers grew amidst her hair. He'd seen that before with someone else, actually.
"Yukiko," he whispered, moving his other hand as he spoke, "I'm cutting part of your shirt on the back and removing your shoes, just in case." They were common things to go regardless of what she was turning into anyway, and it was better to be on the safe side. Even if she didn't grow anything on her back, the small cut he had made meant the shirt would tear easily and not risk strangling her if she grew out of it.
Then, he offered his hand so she could take it and hold on if needed, just as he draped a leathery wing over her, offering protection and a sort of security blanket.
She took his hand, almost too eagerly as she whimpered something of agreement. Did he have an idea of what she would become? Yukiko would've asked if she wasn't holding in her pain, biting down on her lip until she could taste metal in her mouth. Strange how if someone saw it, they could describe it as a birth into a new life.
Yeah, it wasn't needed.
She could feel her fingernails get longer as her toes started to fuse together and mutate into...well, talons and bird-like feet. It hurt and she wasn't going to lie but she would keep it deep down.
He moved himself enough so that he could clasp his other clawed hand on top of hers. He couldn't offer much more than his presence, and deep down in his soul, hearing her say she was scared made him just want to hug her, and regret every word he had said that lead to this. Still using his own wings as cover, and twisting it so that it continued to do so at his own pain, he brought her even closer to him.
Wings and talons. Definitely a bird of some sort...he couldn't help but think of her shadow.
"I'm here," he continued, his voice devoid of the usual teasing tone that had been going nearly non-stop with his demonic awakening. All that remained was the friend she had been with for nearly a year. "I'm with you. You're strong, Yukiko."
She did look like a child at that point still curled up but only now she was closer to her friend and started to let out some of those screams. Both of them could hear her bones popping and cracking and she swore that her new claws were sinking into the demon's skin, more than likely hurting him too.
It was then that she felt something moving on her back, trying to push itself out of her.
"Back...pushing..." she barely gasped out before she could feel her skin start to break.
He bit his lip, feeling the rising pain, but didn't say anything as her claws sank in so much to draw blood. What discomfort he had was minor to hers, and even if it would be over in a few minutes, they were probably feeling like hours to her.
His guess had been right, she definitely was growing wings. Removing his top hand to let Yukiko continue to hold on to the other, he used one of his claws to feel where the bumps were growing, and then widen the tear he had made earlier so that might they could grow untroubled without removing off her entire shirt. As much as he did want to do that...
"It should be over soon," he added, trying to help her along. "Let me move you a bit like this," as he said that, he gently pushed her upwards so that the wings have place to grow properly. "...there we go."

Minutes did feel like hours and she was trying not to cry due to the hurt and pain. It wasn't working as she gave into the choked sobs as the bumps grew bigger and after a few minutes, tore right out of her skin as the new appendages started to take shape. Of course they would be bloody but it was like the color decided to stay once the wings started growing its feathers. Red and orange...almost like her Shadow.
The same colored feathers were also growing but they were hidden under most of her clothes such as her shoulders and elbows. And all she wanted to do was pass out and hope this was all a nightmare.
Despite the blood still seeping from his hand, he managed to hug her closer once she began to sob, feeling the pit of his own stomach sink in empathy. He took a look at her wings once they burst out, realizing how much they reminded him of her Shadow. Did it mean that his demon form... he couldn't recognize any species that had that coloration...at least until he thought about his persona and mythological bird, Suzaku.
A phoenix? After demons, he was ready to believe this place might have such creatures too...
That thought didn't stay for long, as he noticed the moving feathers under her arms, and used his free hand to cut piece of her shirt open to let them out, until he finally stopped trying to keep up, and simply tore it off completely, leaving Yukiko only with her bra. At least the leather wing he had draped over her was providing some covering, as did her feathery hair.
Sadly no Phoenix but just the coloring of one. It seemed to suit her better. And probably a way to lure poor humans to their demise...who would suspect a beautiful woman with those kinds of looks?
She didn't even say anything as her shirt was discarded, her wings stretching out and glad to be free from their so called prison. It was hard but finally...the pain stopped. Her transformation was complete but she refused to move from her spot or even look at herself.
He remembered something he'd been told long ago, but if it came from reading a book or watching a TV show, he wasn't quite sure. In times of great stress, it was a good idea to hold on to that person for moral support until they let you go. Yukiko was much more affected by the change than he had been, and he felt saying anything like remarking how pretty she looked might just make the situation worse.
Besides, by now he almost didn't feel her claw in his own hand anymore, and simply concentrated hugging her in silence, his wings moving to cover her better.
It was a good thing he didn't say that then; Yukiko would've cried even more and wonder if it was the demon talking instead of her friend. At least the hug was a bit of comfort.
She did sadly. But she didn't want to hurt anyone just in order to eat; it scared her and to be honest...she would feel like a monster. Funny how the thoughts she had on herself changing was different than on her friends.
He resists the urge to call her out on it. To tell her to man up a little and that she needs to stand on her own too feet, but he knows that's also the demonic rage inside of him.
"If you don't," he finally says as a warning, his voice low, trying to be as gentle as possible yet attempting to push her into the right direction, "you'll lose everything that makes you who you are. You won't care who you harm or when or what. You'll strike out at the first thing you see, friend or foe."
Good thing he didn't say those words: that would've earned him a good slap across the face and with those claws, it would hurt. She already knew that she had to eat...people but she wasn't going to jump in head first like he did.
And she was still afraid...if she started doing it what would make her stop after for food?
She doesn't answer, just looked down at the ground. This is a serious morality decision after all.
He could send the fear off of her and attempted to relax a little by running his free hand in her feathery hair.
"Hey...remember when we talked at the shrine? How you wanted to keep managing the Inn." He looked down at her, smiling. "Keep that with you, no matter what happens. We all have something that can keep us who we are, even in the strongest of darkness. We'll figure out the mystery of why this is happening. I won't rest until we do."

It was final in her tone as she suddenly wiped her brow. It was getting warmer out wasn't it...
"It's hotter than normal out here. I wonder what's going on."
no subject
Hotter? Huh. Well it was hard to tell for him, what with his immunity. He ran a clawed hand on his chin, thinking.
"Well, it's not me," he promised. "Although I could make it hotter, if you want."
no subject
"I don't feel too good."

More like 'I don't want to eat'.
