TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: JANUARY

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

maskinglayer: entertainment since I've started losing body parts and feeling colors. (They said they aren't hurting for)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-20 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Sorry Nagisa...sorry you had to be stuck with him. Though at least telling him to stop and then focusing on something else does actually keep the boy from continuing further with that train of thought.]

What else would it be? My head just kinda hurts...

[And that's what a headache is, right? He nods though. Yes, he would like some aspirin! Please...]
expectional: and change my major to psych, just to make a case study out of her. (unsure ☾ I wanna go back to school)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-20 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Remember how my eyes burned before they changed color? It could be something like that. [He pushes himself to his feet, moving over to rummage through the little first aid box he managed to throw together with pilfered and otherwise dubiously acquired items. From it, he pulls out a very small bottle of chewable painkillers and moves back to the other boy. Because of course they're chewable, why would he have gotten anything other than kid's aspirin?] A warning...of a change that's about to come.

[Upon reaching Jataro's side, Nagisa squats down next to him and twists open the bottle of aspirin. He shakes a single pill into his hand and holds it out to his friend.] It just seems odd to me that you would get a headache so quickly over something so trivial. This is hardly the most bizarre train of thought you have ever entertained...

maskinglayer: Where will all the polar bears live? (What do you mean we're out of ice?)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-20 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
...I guess, yeah...

[He takes the pill and pops it into his mouth after that, chewing it and giving the matter some thought.]

But if my head hurts because I'm getting changes, what do you think it'd be?

[Wait...]

You don't think my brain is changing do you? What if it's growing something that's gonna pop out my ears? Or what if I'm one of those zombie monsters and it's gonna rot out?!
expectional: I'm straight up sleeping in the library. (talk ☾ I'm not even pretending to study.)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-20 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Recapping the bottle, Nagisa transfers it to his pocket for now. He'll go put it back in the box later. First, he needs to make sure Jataro is okay.]

I guess it could be your brain changing. It seems as though there are a fair number f psychological changes to accompany the physical ones. Perhaps headaches are a common side effect of such changes. Though... [He raises his hands and shakes his head.] I doubt you need to worry about your brain rotting out. I've yet to see or hear of an undead monster that was truly mindless like a stereotypical zombie.

[He frowns, lifting a hand back to his lips, not to feel it for lipstick this time but in contemplation.]

Where exactly does it hurt? What part of your head, I mean.
maskinglayer: When people wear my clothes or sleep in my bed…what does it smell like?! WHAT IS MY SCENT?? (I wonder what MY smell is?????)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-20 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Please don't let it be his brain rotting out. He doesn't want that! But...Nagisa sounds like he knows what he's talking about, and that's reassuring. So he relaxes a little with a nod of understanding.]

Uhh...it feels like my forehead, kind of? Right above my eyes...that's where it's worst.

[It's sort of an all over ache. Growing horns is a pretty painful process, after all!]
expectional: but in my head, I've killed you three times. (neutral ☾ You should kill a man for me)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...well that's your prefrontal cortex. If it really is indicative of a change in your brain, it could be any number of things. That's the part of your brain that's responsible for personality expression, decision making...all executive functioning, among other things.

[He looks a little concerned. If they ARE going to have psychological changes, it would make the most sense for that part of the brain to be affected but...who knows what those changes could be? It's kind of a scary thought, now that he's faced with it. What if they change so drastically that they cannot truly be considered themselves any longer?]

Though, given that this is a matter of monsters, there's a chance it could be...

[He trails off, reaching up and feeling Jataro's forehead through his mask without any kind of warning. There are many different kinds of monsters with horns, antlers, or the like. And if it's on his forehead...]
maskinglayer: Where will all the polar bears live? (What do you mean we're out of ice?)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wah! Wh-wh-what are you doing?!

[Hold on here, your hands are way too close to both that mask and his face Nagisa. What are you planning, what are you doing? You're not trying to take his mask off are you?

Despite his concern he holds still, because while the thought of having his mask removed is pretty scary, he's sure that out of any of the Warriors Nagisa wouldn't be the one to suddenly try and remove it. Probably.

However, horns are absolutely right. Gold star, little sage. He'll easily be able to feel two small, hard lumps through the mask. They aren't very big at all, and since there's no blood dripping out of his mask they likely haven't broken skin yet.]
expectional: tend to require a degree in psychology to understand. (talk ☾ My sexual preferences)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Don't worry, Jataro, he's not trying to take the mask off. If he were, he would have moved behind you and undone the laces on the back. After a few moments of calmly rubbing through the fabric, he finds what he's looking for and a small, satisfied smile crosses his features as he finds what he's looking for.]

...horns. Your head hurts because you're growing horns, Jataro. Here, feel. There are two little bumps right here...
maskinglayer: Who knew so much damage could come from a single shopping cart. (He got 20 stiches.)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Thank you for not doing that either.

When he's told to feel his own forehead, he reaches up with a hand, rubbing at his mask a little. There's a noise of surprise when he feels those bumps, the boy shaking his hands free of his sleeves so he can feel them better with both.]

Horns? You mean like...a rhinoceros? Or a triceratops?

[What do you mean there aren't really any monsters like that?]
expectional: tend to require a degree in psychology to understand. (talk ☾ My sexual preferences)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Once Jataro has found the horns himself, Nagisa pulls his hands back. You go, friend. You have fun with your bumps there. Enjoy that.]

Or a ram or a goat...any number of animals, really. Or maybe an oni, we are turning into monsters, after all. There's nothing that says they have to be horns belonging to an actual animal.

[He shifts from his squatting position to sit cross-legged on the floor.]

But there's no way to know right now. We'll have to wait until they break the skin to see what kind of horns they are.
maskinglayer: drawing a ninja on my paper and writing "ninja will up my grade" (My prof gave me extra credit for)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He will have fun with his bumps! He'll have fun entertaining the ideas of what he could be turning into, too. Animals would be cool, but so would an oni. He'd really scare people then!]

If I'm turning into an oni, I'll have to find a club...you can't be one without that. Do you think they make clubs small enough that I could use one?

[Has he connected the "seeing" his horns with the fact that they'd need to remove his mask for that? Nope. Not at all. He's too enchanted by the idea of growing horns in the first place.]
expectional: but in my head, I've killed you three times. (neutral ☾ You should kill a man for me)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
A baseball bat, perhaps? Though, what's stopping you from making a club? Does that not count as a craft?

[Wow, he thought you were the Super Elementary School Level Arts & Crafts Period. What is this "to they make" crap??]
maskinglayer: emphasis on crayons. (I want to major in coloring with an)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah...you're right! I could totally make one myself! [Look, he wasn't thinking properly okay? He's still in shock from this whole situation kind of. Who gets whisked away to a magical land to be turned into a monster? Possibly an oni, no less?]

I'll need the perfect wood...something hard enough to bash all those demons' skulls in, but nothing that'll be too hard to work with...and some chisels and sand paper...a really nice stain or varnish for when it's done...

[He'll make the perfect club!]

I think most people use lathes to make stuff like that...but I can probably do it without one if I have all the right stuff...hey, hey. If you become an oni too, Shingetsu-kun, I can make you a club too, okay?
expectional: but in my head, I've killed you three times. (neutral ☾ You should kill a man for me)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Don't forget some kind of studs to put in the end. Oni clubs are usually studded or spiked, after all. And I imagine that would be much more painful, provided the spikes weren't so large as to be a hindrance.

[As with a nail-spiked bat, for instance. Those aren't nearly as destructive as you would think.]

[He believes in you though, Jataro. You can do it! You can make the best club.]

Alright. If I turn into an oni, I leave it to you. But somehow, I don't think I am. My teeth are all wrong for an oni.

[He bares his now razor sharp fangs for emphasis. No underbite, no jutting and oddly angled canines... They really don't look anything like typical oni teeth at all.]
maskinglayer: on Mars. Also. Did you realize that yesterday we perfected the mind high-five?? (My bathroom floor makes me think I'm)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't forget the studs. Those are the best part!

[A baseball bat or club on its own is alright, but the fact that they carry studded ones is what makes oni clubs superior. They'd definitely do a lot more damage and be much more fun to wield.

He seems pretty pleased that Nagisa's willing to leave that up to him, and leans in a little to look at those teeth when the other boy shows them off.]

Wow...maybe they aren't oni teeth but they're scary teeth. They look really dangerous...
expectional: in my psych class? Accidentally hit him in the face with a door today. Perfect end to the semester. (smirk ☾ You know that annoying kid)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-21 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nagisa can't help but smirk a little at that.]

Of course they are. I wouldn't be much of a monster if the changes weren't scary, would I? And teeth like these are far better suited for ripping flesh...

[As he says this, his smirk fades a little, to be replaced briefly with a conflicted expression. The same expression that usually shows up on those rare occasions whenever the people eating subject is broached.]

[He can't honestly ever say he had any aspirations to be a cannibal, and he's not crazy about the idea of eating adults, but...at the same time, everything they'd done as the Warriors of Hope had kind of softened the blow. If he'd been brought here before he'd met Junko, he's sure he'd have been more bothered by the revelation. But now...]
maskinglayer: (1)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-21 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that mean you're gonna eat meat instead of drinking their blood or...

[Uh...]

Or whatever the other ones do?

[He only paid a little attention to that kind of stuff. The most he can remember is that neither of the other two involve eating meat...]

I wonder what kind of monster you'll be...
expectional: tend to require a degree in psychology to understand. (talk ☾ My sexual preferences)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-22 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot say for certain, since monsters are...well, they're something of a grey area, I guess. Sharp teeth could be something to incite fear, as opposed to serving any dietary purpose.

[His face returns to its usual calm, close-lipped expression. Goodbye for now, teeth.]

Though, from the data I've been able to gather thusfar about the monsters that inhabit Ryslig...meat eaters seem to be the most common. Then those that drain energy, followed by the soul eaters, and then vampires as the sole blood drainers.

[So, he wouldn't exactly be surprised if he winds up a meant eater. Probability says he will be.]
maskinglayer: When people wear my clothes or sleep in my bed…what does it smell like?! WHAT IS MY SCENT?? (I wonder what MY smell is?????)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-22 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
So then we'll probably both eat meat?

[That's what you're saying there, right? He tilts his head a little.]

Also...only people the Fog God brings here turn into monsters, right? None of the people already living here do. So do you think if aliens invaded, they'd also turn into monsters? Or...would they not, since they'd be from Ryslig space and not Earth space?
expectional: and change my major to psych, just to make a case study out of her. (unsure ☾ I wanna go back to school)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-23 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Probability favors that outcome most, yes.

[Of course, that's no guarantee. As evidenced by the fact that NEITHER of them eat meat. Not that they can possibly be aware of that right now...]

Er... [What the hell Jataro. What does that have to do with anything?] If I had to guess, I would say the latter. Since it seems as though her powers have no effect on beings that come from her native universe. She can only transform those stolen from other points in the multiverse.
maskinglayer: Who knew so much damage could come from a single shopping cart. (He got 20 stiches.)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-23 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
What if she stole aliens from some other universe and brought them here and then turned them into monsters and then they invaded? That could happen! Big headed, green aliens with monster parts!

[Sorry Nagisa. What were they talking about? Whatever it was is apparently being put on pause.]
expectional: and change my major to psych, just to make a case study out of her. (unsure ☾ I wanna go back to school)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-23 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...yes, she could do that. But I don't know that you could truly call that an invasion. After all, she'd be the one bringing them here. And chances are, she would only bring a few individuals as opposed to an entire alien race. I mean...she only brought the two of us here, after all. And many of the monsters here seem to be the lone representative of their universes.

[Okay, they can talk about hypothetical alien invasions, he guesses. Why not.]
maskinglayer: Who knew so much damage could come from a single shopping cart. (He got 20 stiches.)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-23 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But can't aliens make more aliens really easily? They just set up a lab and use science to clone themselves. They could have a clone army of monster aliens.

[That's probably not how it works, but not like he knows. Who knows what aliens can do.]

And then those aliens could start making other monsters into aliens too. Or control our minds and make us work for them!
expectional: tend to require a degree in psychology to understand. (talk ☾ My sexual preferences)

[personal profile] expectional 2017-01-23 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[Holy shit, Jataro.]

I really don't think we have to worry about that happening. You've seen the technology level of Ryslig, cloning just isn't possible here. And since we only arrive with little more than our clothes...

[You see what he's getting at here? Alien monster clones are highly impossible. Mind control, though...that he's not so sure of. So he's just not going to comment on that.]
maskinglayer: elevator. Like she had the whole elevator and she stood right next to me. So I farted. (Default)

[personal profile] maskinglayer 2017-01-23 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know...I think aliens could do it if they wanted to.

[They're super smart and technologically advanced and can do anything right?]

Probably, anyway. Maybe they'd just invent the cloning machines.
