TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Snake coughed. Hard. He also spat out wet, bitter sand, as he pulled himself from the mouth of the ocean. What the hell? He realised that he had nearly escaped being drowned by some unknown reason. Wiping his prosthetic hand across his mouth he used his good hand to push himself up off the wet sand. It was then he felt a dull pain, or several dull pains across his torso and legs.

Shit. Bruises? Looking down, he was naked. No guns. No weapons. All he had was his clothes. Had he been attacked and thrown into the ocean to drift amongst the fishes? Had Mother Base been destroyed and he had survived the explosion to end up here? So many questions. The cuts and scrapes were what worried him most.

Who did this to him? He adjusted his pony tail and looked around the deserted beach. Huh. No one. Seemed a little off. The whole place seemed a little off, as none of it seemed local to the Seychelles. Surely, if he had drifted from Mother Base he would have ended up somewhere local? His head ached and he was tired. So tired. He felt like shit. Instinctively reaching down to pull his iDroid he realised it wasn't there. Damn. He really was naked Snake. How could he contact base? Or Kaz? Ocelot even? He was marooned.

Snake knew he'd had to rely on his survival skills to get him out of this one. Nothing new to him, since he was a hardened soldier, used to spending days or weeks out in the desert or savannah.]

Re: 1, night;

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, V wasn't completely marooned. Vandare wasn't all that far away, and the ocean wasn't completely abandoned. It might not have been home to too many monsters, but one man did consider this his turf.

One man, with long blond hair, and Big Boss's face, as covered as it is with a mouthful of sharp teeth. One man, swimming in the water, clearly not completely human.

One man who recognized the man stranded on the beach, who did a double-take when he poked his head out of the water to see what was going on.]

Father?

[The accent and the blond hair might have given a bit of indication as to who this man was, but perhaps he was so far removed from the twelve-year-old he once was that it didn't. Still, he never could have expected his father to show up, could he? Sure, people who other people knew showed up all the time, but his father?

And here he was, still human. Liquid could kill him. He could do what he'd always wanted to do. Just do a bit of singing, lure him into the water, and drown him. Easy. But he'd come back, as people always do here. Would it even be worth the brief satisfaction?]

Well. Been a long time, hasn't it?

Re: this icon is so apt :D

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Snake just stared. Now, there was some kind of fish dude talking to him. Did he just say father? What the hell was going on? He must be dreaming. That was it. This whole thing was a stupid dream.]

I'm not your father. What the hell are you?

[He had to ask. The fish man spoke with a posh British accent. This was as bizarre as dreams could go, yet it felt so real. The cuts and scrapes felt real, so did the sand in his mouth, or what was left of it. Snake narrowed his eyes at the fish-man and readied himself in case the creature attacked.]

What is this place?

hah

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Liquid's tail splashed lightly in the water as he laughed. Hilarious, wasn't it?]

Liquid Snake. Once upon a time, though, I was called Nyoka ya Mpembe.

[It wouldn't be hard to attack at all. When he sang, humans couldn't resist it. His father would be changing soon enough, but he wasn't now, and while Liquid kept himself fed, there was never any harm in another meal.

Still, he stopped himself from even trying. Not yet.]

Welcome to Ryslig, Father. Bit of a rude awakening, I'm sure, but it always is.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (artwork)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hilarious? Snake didn't find the situation hilarious at all. The tail just made it all worse.]

The White Mamba.

[He knew those words. But, they couldn't belong to this...creature. He wasn't even a man anymore. A merman? Was this guy trying to tell him he was actually Eli? That twelve year old kid back at Mother Base? None of this made any sense. It was fucked up.]

...Eli? You can't be him. You're some kind of sea monster. The Eli I know is a twelve year old kid.
saveyourserpent: (turn)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sometimes, there's nothing more hilarious than the confusion of someone who just showed up here. Especially when it's, well, someone you hate.]

A twelve year old who grew up to be a sea monster. Is it that farfetched? Is it any different to there being a sea monster here in the first place?

[Sure, a sea monster claiming to be someone you knew had to be weirder than a sea monster on his own, but still.]

How else would I know any of those names, hm? Do you think they'd spontaneously pop into my head? Stop calling me that, by the way.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (out of the shadows)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[This guy's attitude...it matched the one of Eli. Arrogant, cocky and rude. This was the kid that Snake knew and now he had become this sea monster. Did everyone become monsters in this place? He was already a demon, so perhaps this was a good place for someone like him.]

You got bigger. Nice tail.

[What? It was sort of amusing to see the uptight Eli being snarky towards his "father." Snake could have fun at the same time of trying to wrap his head around this weird shit.]

That's your name, isn't it? Or have you got a monster name now?
saveyourserpent: (smug)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what tends to happen when you grow up, surprisingly enough.

[Well, the getting bigger thing, anyway. Tails were not usually part of growing up. Liquid snorted out a short laugh and splashed his tail before 'sitting' up again.]

Just because someone decided to call me that all those years ago doesn't make it my name. I go by Liquid Snake, now.

[Not much of a monster name, since he was clearly not a snake.]

It's been a while since I left Mother Base. Suppose it hasn't been a while for you, then?
cardboard_boss: made by cardboard_boss (be at peace)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[You were such a small squirt back then, Liquid. Brat.]

Liquid Snake, huh? You're not much of a snake. You some kind of merman?

[He's interested in the look. It's rather unnerving but at the same time impressive. No amount of gene therapy could have done this, right? More like DNA splicing.]

Yeah, you could say that. Your body....how did it happen?
Edited 2016-09-11 18:49 (UTC)
saveyourserpent: (point)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, now he was a tall brat. Sort of. At least he wasn't quite as prone to attempted murder.

When he wasn't hungry, anyway.]

It was my codename before all this happened. I'm not about to go changing it just because I'm a fish. People like me are called mermen, yes, or mers, or whatever else, but I sort of prefer 'fishman'. It's a bit more monstrous.

[He'd totally been trying to spread it around, and someone totally used it once, so it worked out.]

The gods around here seem to think we're their little playthings. Anyone who's brought here starts to change, eventually. Now that you're here, you should expect the same.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (the truth hurts)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[You're a tall brat with a tail and fins. Big improvement? Not so much.]

Did you pick the codename yourself or did someone else name you? [He wanted to know what happened to Liquid after he left in the chopper from the island. Surely, he would have died? The boy had been infected with the parasites, but here he was. Alive. Someone or something must have saved him, otherwise he wouldn't have made it past puberty.]

Liquid, the killer fish man. Yeah, it's terrifying.

[Sorry, but isn't that a little B-movie? He couldn't hide the slow smirk spreading over his face. But, his face hardened at Liquid's last words.]

You're saying there are "gods?" They turn everyone into monsters? I find that hard to believe. What sort of experiments do they run on this place? DNA splicing?
Edited 2016-09-11 19:21 (UTC)
saveyourserpent: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Our codenames were decided upon to be fitting.

[Which explained absolutely nothing, but maybe he didn't want to answer that particular question. He crossed his arms, still staying upright in the water.]

You find that hard to believe, but me swimming around here and you showing up out of nowhere aren't hard to believe.

[His father was a strange person, seemed like.]

There's gods. There's people who follow them for reasons I can't bloody figure out. And they think we belong to them or something, that they should play with us. And that's why we change.

You'll see. Nothing'll happen to you, then the fog rolls in, and maybe you start growing claws. Maybe your teeth start falling out. Maybe the sides of your neck rip open and you feel like you need to be in the water. Who knows?
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (reflect on the past)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-11 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's not about to delve into the history of your name, Liquid. Right now he's more concerned with people getting changed into monsters. It sounded horrific. Had he just washed up onto an island of horrors?]

I'm no one's plaything. Is there anyway of stopping them from changing us? Because I'll be damned if I'm about to let some false deity turn me into Bigfoot.

[Nice. Real smooth, Snake. Don't jinx your fate, Snake. He just didn't like the idea of becoming a monster. Hair, scales or anything else. It wasn't natural.]

I've already got a shrapnel horn and a prosthetic arm. Most look at me and think of me a demon already.
saveyourserpent: (heh)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-11 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Considering there was one monstrous Big Boss clone swimming around in the sea, yes, it was certainly a place of horrors. Liquid seemed pretty damn used to it.]

I've been sort of planning to fight the gods someday, and I don't know how that'll end up, but until then... I suggest making the best of what you become.

[That's what Liquid did, anyway. He'd been determined from day one to do what he could with what he god, and he liked to think he was doing quite nicely for himself.]

Well, get ready. You could become anything, really.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (don't give a shit)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-12 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Snake wasn't actually surprised to hear that Eli, no, Liquid wanted to take on some gods. Didn't he think he was one himself? By the sound of things anyway.]

I'm always able to adapt to any environment, no matter what.

[Changing into a monster though? That was a whole new ball game. Yet, Snake would have to deal with it, it seemed.]

How long have you been here? Is the monster changing process instant?
saveyourserpent: (distance)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-12 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Taking on his father, taking on his brother, taking on Cipher, taking on some gods... if there was something to fight, Liquid was going to fight.]

That's the best way to handle things here. Some people seem to have trouble dealing with it.

[A lot of monsters hate what they've become, at least at first. He's seen it. He didn't want to be one of those.]

I've been here... hm. About five months, I'd say. It starts out around the next time the fog rolls in. After that, who can say? From what I've seen, it's a bit different for everyone. It took an entire month for my scales to grow in.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (looking through the smashed glass)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-12 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[He knows how much you want to fight the world. He saw that back when you were a child.]

You can't blame them. Waking up on a sandy shore, lost, then turning into a monster. It isn't exactly paradise. [Far from it.]

What is this fog?
saveyourserpent: (heh)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-12 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
What, haven't you always wanted to go on holiday to a place like this?

[Beyond the gods and occasional rioting villagers, this place doesn't have quite as much to fight as his old world did.

Although now that his father's here...]

Every so often, a fog rolls in, and with it comes changes. It's supposedly the work of the one who brought us here. Very scary.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (don't know who I am anymore)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-13 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure I have.

[Hear that sarcasm, Liquid? Two could play at that game. Why would anyone want to visit a hell hole like this?]

Anyway to avoid this fog? [Because it still sounded like a load of crap to him. He had to see it to believe it. Fog was never a good thing anyway. Back home he had the Skulls to deal with and their fog full of parasites.]

There anyway to change back to a human after you get changed?
saveyourserpent: (look)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-13 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
You can't avoid it. It comes for you no matter where you are.

[If there was a way to avoid it, someone probably would have figured it out by now. Unless they're keeping it to themselves, but that's not very likely.]

Well, the weres seem to be human in the daytime at least. Beyond that, I highly doubt it. Maybe there's a temporary fix out there, but you're always going to be a monster.

[Rather optimistic, isn't he?]
cardboard_boss: made by cardboard_boss (i am a monster)

already been making some "monster" related icons for Snake

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-13 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Then he was doomed. Everyone was it seemed. The fog would wash over him like a death wall and engulf him, turning into some hell monster.]

Basically, we're sentenced to death there then. No longer able to live out our human lives. [Morbid but yes.]

Weres? As in were-people?
saveyourserpent: (distance)

ooh nice

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-13 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least Liquid, Mr. Dramatic himself, seemed to have taken to it well. There he was, swimming in the sea like he belonged there.]

It wasn't exactly my idea, now, was it? That's a bit much, but I suppose sometimes it fits.

[Like vampires! Liquid was dead before he came here, though, so it's never been as worrisome a prospect.]

Wolves and bears seem to be the theme there. I wouldn't call myself an expert on monsterkind, but you sort of learn as you go.
cardboard_boss: made by cardboard_boss (covered in blood)

Re: yeah. monster-y Snake ^-^

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-13 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Never suggested it was your idea. You're suffering being a merman just as others are suffering being other monsters.

[Was Liquid suffering? He seemed to be adapting quite well. Like a fish to water?]

Werewolves and Werebears, huh? Sounds like a fairy-tale or horror movie. What's it been like for you? Living like a merman for five months.
saveyourserpent: (small)

monster stepdad

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-13 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You really think I'm suffering? Ha! You always did like to underestimate me, didn't you? I'm doing just fine.

[Considering he had nothing to go back to, this was another chance at life for him.]

It's very... wet. Could be worse, though. It isn't as hard to adapt as people say.

[Maybe he's just always been a monster himself, right?]
cardboard_boss: made by cardboard_boss (we have a future)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-09-17 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry. [Snake shrugged.]

What do you eat? Fish? [Because how the hell could Liquid survive without food.]
