TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Well, at least Liquid, Mr. Dramatic himself, seemed to have taken to it well. There he was, swimming in the sea like he belonged there.]

It wasn't exactly my idea, now, was it? That's a bit much, but I suppose sometimes it fits.

[Like vampires! Liquid was dead before he came here, though, so it's never been as worrisome a prospect.]

Wolves and bears seem to be the theme there. I wouldn't call myself an expert on monsterkind, but you sort of learn as you go.

Never suggested it was your idea. You're suffering being a merman just as others are suffering being other monsters.

[Was Liquid suffering? He seemed to be adapting quite well. Like a fish to water?]

Werewolves and Werebears, huh? Sounds like a fairy-tale or horror movie. What's it been like for you? Living like a merman for five months.

You really think I'm suffering? Ha! You always did like to underestimate me, didn't you? I'm doing just fine.

[Considering he had nothing to go back to, this was another chance at life for him.]

It's very... wet. Could be worse, though. It isn't as hard to adapt as people say.

[Maybe he's just always been a monster himself, right?]

Sorry. [Snake shrugged.]

What do you eat? Fish? [Because how the hell could Liquid survive without food.]

Sometimes. Plenty to go around. It's not like I can't eat normal things. The teeth make it harder, but I manage.

Here, though... well, people tend to be on the menu.

People are monsters, so resort to eating other non-monsters? The people that haven't turned yet?

[He couldn't imagine monsters eating other monsters. That would defeat the whole point of populating an island with monsters.]

Are you bound to the sea, unable to walk or can you form legs when you want to?

The people who live here normally don't turn. It's just those of us who are brought here who do. Although I have heard of monsters eating monsters before.

[Same reason humans kill humans, probably.]

When I'm out of the water I get legs. I can't exactly wear anything with the tail, so I suppose you'll forgive me for not getting out.

[So, there were humans that weren't monsters. Prey, perhaps? Snake was just trying to piece together all of this. A world with monsters and humans.]

Guess it would be difficult if you couldn't use your legs anymore. Stuck in water. [He didn't really fancy getting a view of semi-naked Liquid.]

Any mermaids?

Bloody hell, it'd be the worst. Don't get me wrong, I love the water now, but I couldn't spend all my time in it. I still need to do land things.

[He's not interested in giving the view, either. So, tail it is for now.]

Sure, there's some women too. We don't all hang out a lot or anything, but I've seen them.

I was guessing you'd be able to walk around on land as well as water.

[Being stuck in the water all the time would be torture. How would he make a life for himself as a merman out of the water? So many questions.]

What other monsters have you seen in this place?

Yeah. Have to come back every so often so I don't get dried out, but it could be worse.

[He certainly wouldn't be happy if all he could do was stay in the water. There's not exactly much in the way of amenities in the water.]

Quite a few. Can't really give you a list, but you see a lot of different monsters around here. Cat people, snake people, plant people... More monsters tend to hang out in Bavan, but a few of us stuck around this way.

[That was a point. Liquid was now adapted to water, so his body would crave the feel of it. Would he die if he didn't go back to water after walking around on land?]

If you don't touch water for a while I'm guessing you'd die, right?

Snake people? What are they like?

Probably. I'm not exactly planning to try it out and see for myself.

[Not a good plan, no.]

Well, it's like how I've got this tail...

Except theirs is half of a snake.
