TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

terribibble: (absolutely very upsetting)

Strange enough, he hadn't really stopped to consider that the absence of a body might hurt in the same way other changes might. He probably should have, but again, he's not that kind of doctor.

"I -- sure, somewhere, hang on." He slithers over to the mirror above the work sink and pulls it open, revealing a bunch of bottles and some various toiletries. He lives in his workshop, alright, this is the only sink he has access to and so this is where he brushes his teeth. Don't judge.

He plucks one of the bottles off the shelf, shakes it, and then puts it back. Empty. He finds one that still has some pills in it and brings it back over to Robbie, along with a glass of water. Probably shouldn't take painkillers with nothing but that whiskey.

"Here."
nolemon: (But who cares right?)

[personal profile] nolemon 2016-09-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh...right. I forgot I was still a shrimp back there.

[Oh, no. Hiyoko is getting a very bad idea. She stretches out her wings in a yawning gesture. Someone hasn't realized that Peko actually needs her glasses. Oops.]

We all become monsters here.

[Beat.]

Though, you and the mutt don't really need all that much changed for that.
andthetombstones: (eyeroll)

[personal profile] andthetombstones 2016-09-23 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"What if I get some creep?"

Robbie took a pause, seriously meaning the question. Being the creep is fun, and now being a shade (which he is still convinced is pretty much a ghost)- if it stops hurting- seems like it could at least be put to use. If his clothes stop feeling like they've melted directly into his flesh, that is.

But suppose this guy is a creep too, he can't tell. He's just a really big moth.
saveyourserpent: (look)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-09-23 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Have to come back every so often so I don't get dried out, but it could be worse.

[He certainly wouldn't be happy if all he could do was stay in the water. There's not exactly much in the way of amenities in the water.]

Quite a few. Can't really give you a list, but you see a lot of different monsters around here. Cat people, snake people, plant people... More monsters tend to hang out in Bavan, but a few of us stuck around this way.
andthetombstones: (unsure)

[personal profile] andthetombstones 2016-09-23 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, having your body go intangible and having physical things cut through you totally doesn't hurt, so long as it doesn't draw blood. Thanks doctor snake.

That visible heartbeat behind a translucent material one is steady again, which would be comforting if it weren't for the fact that you could see it at all.

"Thanks." He took the bottle in shaky hands, it sinking into his woolen gloves but not passing quite totally through. Its still more frustrating effort to watch him actually take the pills, but it gets done.
kirlian: (11.)

FOUR let's get some sads up in this tdm

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Honestly... with the city she has to brave to find and attend to the new arrivals, Mahiru wouldn't be - and isn't - surprised in the slightest to see something of a mugging happening right there in front of her. Or, rather... quite a ways down the small street, but with the eyes of both a photographer and a Minotaur, seeing things is no longer a problem for her.

Of course, seeing that happen means that Mahiru's opting to take a different stance on it; as the monster in this situation, she's much bigger and far more dangerous looking than a normal human could ever be, and while she doesn't like to throw that around... sometimes it's necessary to stop a dangerous situation like this.

So she quickly makes her way up to the duo - her mane bristling to twice its size, tail lashing dangerously - and lets out a beastlike snort once she's within ear shot.]

Hey - let that man go! He hasn't done anything to you!

[Of course, she very likely recognizes Peko for who she is... she's just as likely to be fiercely pretending it can't be real. The rest of her class did tell her about what had happened the day she arrived, more than half a year ago.
Having to confront Peko about it isn't something Mahiru's looking forward to.]
rambunctiousgirl: Anata ni kubittake (I'll always be in love with you)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Mahiru can probably hear how big of a breath Peko takes, immediately dropping her arms. The knife clatters against the ground, and if the man took off running, Peko wouldn't even remember he had been there.

Though her glasses have long since been swept away by the sea, she can make out the figure of something monstrous and red. Locking eyes with Mahiru, Peko freezes like a windows 98 PC on a hot day. She can't for the life of her reconcile in this moment that she's not in hell, because-- well, she'd deserve it.

Especially if her tormentor was a demon with her voice.]

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Hey, now - "demon" is a little harsh, right? Like, sure, she has the horns... and the hooves. And the teeth. But she's still Mahiru, inside it all!

Of course, those red eyes of Peko's focusing on her like that makes it real hard to deny to herself what she's seeing - it really is the swordswoman in front of her, and now she's being stared at like the monster she's become.

Though, she was trying to be scary. It's just hard to accept that she's able to scare her, of all people.
But coming to terms with it... that mane flattens back down, her expression visibly softening.]

... Peko-chan? You, ah... you're...

[...]

You're... missing your glasses. Can you see alright?

[Good job, Mahiru. Good hustle.]
rambunctiousgirl: Manazashi wasurenai (Glance you gave/ I’ll never forget)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[For a moment Peko doesn't move, but then her jaw slides juuust a little bit ajar, her brows starting to knit at the center.

Slowly she shakes her head no in response, little more than a breath leaving her throat.

Of course, right now she's questioning more if she can't see alright because of the glasses or because she's lost her mind.]

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[N-no, stop looking at her like that... it's making her even more nervous than she was. Which means her hands are coming up to fiddle with her camera's strap, gaze darting to the side.]

... Um - I'm sorry for... scaring you like that. I wasn't going to hurt you or something; I just wanted to make sure you didn't hurt that man.

[This is... really awkward. How do you have pleasant conversation with the girl who killed you??

... Then again - she managed this with Demyx, didn't she? The reason Mahiru's got a scar running down her forehead...
She can do this with Peko, too.]

How about we go somewhere nicer, so I can explain some of this stuff to you?
The locals will want to shove pamphlets and papers at you for that, but it's just way easier to hear it from a f- ... a classmate.
rambunctiousgirl: (new056)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
...Koizumi-san.

[It's a quiet call. The look on Peko's face remains perplexed, unchanged despite having listened.]

It's... really you?

You want to... help me?

[She speaks in a weak voice, and her hands begin to tremble.]

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
... Yeah. I do. The rest of the class explained to me what happened - what really happened.
Kuzuryuu and I are doing our best to get along. As friends.

So... I think it'd only be fair to give you that chance, too.

[It's something Mahiru's thought about for a while, honestly. If she and Kuzuryuu and move past it together - then why can't Peko and herself try as well?
They've accepted Gundam despite what he's done, too... and she's sure the class that's here would do the same for any of their classmates.

With an exception.]

... That's only if you'll accept it, of course. I know a lot of our class has a hard time with that kind of thing...
I won't get mad if you'd rather not.
rambunctiousgirl: (new055)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Mahiru isn't asking if Peko deserves that chance. If that were the case, Peko would refuse. But Mahiru's offering, and Peko is in a lot of pain and very tired.

She isn't in a mood to refuse anyone's grace.

Instead she nods again, looking down and wiping her eyes with her sandy sleeve.]

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry, Koizumi-san.

[If she had the energy, she'd thank her for her forgiveness-- but Peko is exhausted, and can't seem to muster the strength to act like the unwavering swordswoman she has been until this point.]
kirlian: (13.)

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ah -

[Seeing Peko wipe her eyes with a dirty sleeve like that, Mahiru moves to pat her pockets; obviously searching for something, before remembering she's got it in the messenger bag over her shoulder.
Pulling whatever she was looking for out of her bag, she holds it out to Peko.]

- Here. You'll just get sand in your eyes if you keep trying to use your sleeve like that.

[It's not a handkerchief, of course, but a lens cloth. ... Which shouldn't be surprising, considering just who is offering it to her.]

You don't really need to apologize to me, you know. ... The truth is, I've been here for a while, now. And I've had a lot of time to think about what happened and you, Peko-chan.
I can't say you're entirely not at fault for what happened... but I can say I'm willing to move on and try to be your friend, just like Kuzuryuu did for me.

personally i just follow what's used in the jp version, so gundam mun's gonna pm you about that!

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
That's definitely a way to put it... sorry if I startled you. It's really easy to get too used to being a monster, once it happens!

[It's meant to be reassuring, but of course it wouldn't be surprising to anyone if it didn't come off that way.

Mahiru doesn't really know if she frightened Sonia or not, though - after all, Sonia's always kind of a rock in hard times, right? Hard to really shake up, as far as Mahiru's aware.
But knowing that she's turned into a big, hulking Minotaur... she's gotten pretty used to apologizing for that sort of thing, just to be polite.]

You should probably know, though; a lot of those pamphlets are fakes.
Stuff like a "fur covered fish", or whatever... you don't really need to put a lot of stock in them.
catphishing: (173)

[personal profile] catphishing 2016-09-23 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good question, in fairness. There are definitely creeps out there. He doesn't have that good an answer.

"Then you get out of there, but you can't keep sleeping in a graveyard or whatever. That's really disrespectful. And dangerous. You know how it's going to look to the people who are trying to visit their loved ones, right?"
rambunctiousgirl: Yume no naka nara ieru (I can say it in my dreams)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[And kind of as though she has just accepted his explanation as true, Peko... nods.

Ah, yes, of course the lord of demons has returned to his demon form, apparently.]

...I see. Then we should travel quietly.

[She understands. The answers she wants will have to wait. Peko gets to her feet, pressing her confusion into the back of her mind. And with a very serious, steady stare, she adds--]

Thank you, Tanaka-san.
rambunctiousgirl: Tsuki no hikari ni michibikare (We are lead by the light of the moon)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[In all actuality, Peko'd rather not hurt anyone at all. Her intent with her target had been only to frighten them into giving her information, but... well, this has had the same effect.]

A faerie... [She repeats, obviously not quite sold, judging by the way she's said it.]

I don't understand. I'm... I'm not supposed to be here.
rambunctiousgirl: (new009)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Though the form is very intimidating, Peko chooses to stand her ground. You can't show weakness around Saionji.]

Mutt?

[Yeah, she caught that.]
rambunctiousgirl: Denwa mo dekinai midnight (I can’t even call it’s midnight)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peko doesn't reach for the cloth until she's heard Mahiru speak, and, well, with good reason.]

But.. It was-- hours ago...

[She murmurs, nearly dumbfounded. Mahiru's been here a while? And Kuzuryuu?

But she just died! Is this some kind of trick, or--]

I don't understand.

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh - right. The look on Mahiru's face, hearing that, makes it a little obvious that she's forgot that herself.
But she was just as confused when she showed up, so... it's not like she can fault Peko for not understanding.]

I know - it's a little hard to explain. Tanaka said something about parallel universes... but it feels more like people show up here from different times in their lives, at different times.

Kuzuryuu and Tanaka have been here even longer than I have. And... apparently, I was here before this, turned into a completely different... monster - [Said with a gesture toward herself-] - and just don't remember.
Whoever brought us here doesn't seem to like doing things that make sense.

... There's a lot more to this, too. But I think I'd really rather save that for Kuzuryuu to explain - he understands it better than I do, and I really don't want to mess it up trying.

[And she's not sure how Peko would take the "you're not actually dead" talk coming from the girl she killed.]
rambunctiousgirl: (new056)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peko steps closer as Mahiru speaks, and though her eyes are locked on Mahiru's face, her hand reaches idly for that kerchief. She doesn't take it, but holds onto the end like a lost little girl, as though afraid Mahiru's offers will fade away if she doesn't take it.

What Mahiru's saying doesn't make a lick of sense, but Peko knows enough about Mahiru and- well, about people-- to realise Mahiru isn't fucking with her. Not with that kind of body language. It's strange-- the beast before her is both nothing like Mahiru and yet still, Peko is sure if she were blind, the beast would seem to exude Mahiru's presence.]

Okay, [She answers.]

I'll come with you.

1.
[ When you come from a future where plants and animals are extinct, you don't expect to come face to face with so much nature all at once. This might not be the first time he's nearly drowned, because the sea still exists, but that time he'd been saved thanks to a block of ice he had passed out on. Sand wasn't what he expected.

He coughs, and can suddenly hear the click of a gun's safety being removed. He stares up, right into the barrel. ]

I swear, I din't take any pictures of ya, don' shoot me!

[ That's usually why people try to kill him (not the only reason buuut). ]

2a.
[ He's freaking out. He's very much freaking out right now. Trees? Flowers? Grass? Animals? What the heck is this talk about dealing with becoming a monster?

And here's this weirdo getting freaked out by regular flowers when he stumbles and falls face first into someone's flowerbed. ]

Ah! Git off git off I can'-- flowers aren'-- why would ya have somethin' so dangerous like this--

2b
[ And then there's the issue of food. He stares suspiciously at the food that looks like it would come out of some food history pdf.

It's perfectly normal food, but... ]

How- how do I know is safe to eat this...?

4.
[ Shiiiiit shit shit shit.

He had heard about this 'turning into monsters' thing, but he hadn't been able to really believe it. It's a bit hard to grasp after all.

But now? He's turning into something, and he has no idea what it is. It's a nymph, but he doesn't know what that is, really. What he knows is that he's growing flowers. And that's the worst possible thing that could ever happen, what with the only flower in his world that exists is the Shinigami flower; a parasite that kills its host and transforms them into something that spreads death and pollution. ]

No no no, this can' be happenin', I can' become Shinigami, I'm not a doctor, I'm gunna die--

[He understands the skepticism. Even faced with everything he'd struggled to come to terms with what was going on in Ryslig. Sometimes he still finds things hard to wrap his head around.]

None of us are, but... we don't know how to leave. We're stuck here. I'm sorry.

[That's always the hardest part to tell people, the part they really don't want to accept. They all come from somewhere and most of them want to go back to it.]

No-- no, that's not...

[She sighs. Of course he wouldn't know.]

I... should be dead.

[That might explain the oddly hole ridden nature of her clothes, something the sea wouldn't quite manage on its own.]
