TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Mahiru can probably hear how big of a breath Peko takes, immediately dropping her arms. The knife clatters against the ground, and if the man took off running, Peko wouldn't even remember he had been there.

Though her glasses have long since been swept away by the sea, she can make out the figure of something monstrous and red. Locking eyes with Mahiru, Peko freezes like a windows 98 PC on a hot day. She can't for the life of her reconcile in this moment that she's not in hell, because-- well, she'd deserve it.

Especially if her tormentor was a demon with her voice.]

[Hey, now - "demon" is a little harsh, right? Like, sure, she has the horns... and the hooves. And the teeth. But she's still Mahiru, inside it all!

Of course, those red eyes of Peko's focusing on her like that makes it real hard to deny to herself what she's seeing - it really is the swordswoman in front of her, and now she's being stared at like the monster she's become.

Though, she was trying to be scary. It's just hard to accept that she's able to scare her, of all people.
But coming to terms with it... that mane flattens back down, her expression visibly softening.]

... Peko-chan? You, ah... you're...

[...]

You're... missing your glasses. Can you see alright?

[Good job, Mahiru. Good hustle.]
rambunctiousgirl: Manazashi wasurenai (Glance you gave/ I’ll never forget)

[For a moment Peko doesn't move, but then her jaw slides juuust a little bit ajar, her brows starting to knit at the center.

Slowly she shakes her head no in response, little more than a breath leaving her throat.

Of course, right now she's questioning more if she can't see alright because of the glasses or because she's lost her mind.]

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[N-no, stop looking at her like that... it's making her even more nervous than she was. Which means her hands are coming up to fiddle with her camera's strap, gaze darting to the side.]

... Um - I'm sorry for... scaring you like that. I wasn't going to hurt you or something; I just wanted to make sure you didn't hurt that man.

[This is... really awkward. How do you have pleasant conversation with the girl who killed you??

... Then again - she managed this with Demyx, didn't she? The reason Mahiru's got a scar running down her forehead...
She can do this with Peko, too.]

How about we go somewhere nicer, so I can explain some of this stuff to you?
The locals will want to shove pamphlets and papers at you for that, but it's just way easier to hear it from a f- ... a classmate.

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
...Koizumi-san.

[It's a quiet call. The look on Peko's face remains perplexed, unchanged despite having listened.]

It's... really you?

You want to... help me?

[She speaks in a weak voice, and her hands begin to tremble.]

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
... Yeah. I do. The rest of the class explained to me what happened - what really happened.
Kuzuryuu and I are doing our best to get along. As friends.

So... I think it'd only be fair to give you that chance, too.

[It's something Mahiru's thought about for a while, honestly. If she and Kuzuryuu and move past it together - then why can't Peko and herself try as well?
They've accepted Gundam despite what he's done, too... and she's sure the class that's here would do the same for any of their classmates.

With an exception.]

... That's only if you'll accept it, of course. I know a lot of our class has a hard time with that kind of thing...
I won't get mad if you'd rather not.

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Mahiru isn't asking if Peko deserves that chance. If that were the case, Peko would refuse. But Mahiru's offering, and Peko is in a lot of pain and very tired.

She isn't in a mood to refuse anyone's grace.

Instead she nods again, looking down and wiping her eyes with her sandy sleeve.]

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry, Koizumi-san.

[If she had the energy, she'd thank her for her forgiveness-- but Peko is exhausted, and can't seem to muster the strength to act like the unwavering swordswoman she has been until this point.]

Ah -

[Seeing Peko wipe her eyes with a dirty sleeve like that, Mahiru moves to pat her pockets; obviously searching for something, before remembering she's got it in the messenger bag over her shoulder.
Pulling whatever she was looking for out of her bag, she holds it out to Peko.]

- Here. You'll just get sand in your eyes if you keep trying to use your sleeve like that.

[It's not a handkerchief, of course, but a lens cloth. ... Which shouldn't be surprising, considering just who is offering it to her.]

You don't really need to apologize to me, you know. ... The truth is, I've been here for a while, now. And I've had a lot of time to think about what happened and you, Peko-chan.
I can't say you're entirely not at fault for what happened... but I can say I'm willing to move on and try to be your friend, just like Kuzuryuu did for me.
rambunctiousgirl: Denwa mo dekinai midnight (I can’t even call it’s midnight)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peko doesn't reach for the cloth until she's heard Mahiru speak, and, well, with good reason.]

But.. It was-- hours ago...

[She murmurs, nearly dumbfounded. Mahiru's been here a while? And Kuzuryuu?

But she just died! Is this some kind of trick, or--]

I don't understand.

[personal profile] kirlian 2016-09-23 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh - right. The look on Mahiru's face, hearing that, makes it a little obvious that she's forgot that herself.
But she was just as confused when she showed up, so... it's not like she can fault Peko for not understanding.]

I know - it's a little hard to explain. Tanaka said something about parallel universes... but it feels more like people show up here from different times in their lives, at different times.

Kuzuryuu and Tanaka have been here even longer than I have. And... apparently, I was here before this, turned into a completely different... monster - [Said with a gesture toward herself-] - and just don't remember.
Whoever brought us here doesn't seem to like doing things that make sense.

... There's a lot more to this, too. But I think I'd really rather save that for Kuzuryuu to explain - he understands it better than I do, and I really don't want to mess it up trying.

[And she's not sure how Peko would take the "you're not actually dead" talk coming from the girl she killed.]
rambunctiousgirl: (new056)

[personal profile] rambunctiousgirl 2016-09-23 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peko steps closer as Mahiru speaks, and though her eyes are locked on Mahiru's face, her hand reaches idly for that kerchief. She doesn't take it, but holds onto the end like a lost little girl, as though afraid Mahiru's offers will fade away if she doesn't take it.

What Mahiru's saying doesn't make a lick of sense, but Peko knows enough about Mahiru and- well, about people-- to realise Mahiru isn't fucking with her. Not with that kind of body language. It's strange-- the beast before her is both nothing like Mahiru and yet still, Peko is sure if she were blind, the beast would seem to exude Mahiru's presence.]

Okay, [She answers.]

I'll come with you.
