JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is 01/29.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[it's getting kind of old. for a while, the voices were kind of... oh, what was the word, charming? in a morbid let's-see-how-many-cliches-we-can-shove-in-this kind of way you could appreciate if you were watching this on the sidelines, he supposes. Stine will be the first to admit that they had him going for a bit; the first hour and a half wandering through these woods has been nerve-racking to say the least, but now he's starting to realize that the brunt of his anxiety has been directed on trying to find a way out more-so than wondering who — or what — is making these noises. at this point it's more apparent than ever that these are intimidation tactics. whatever it is has had several opportunities to maul him and hasn't so far, so that can't be the ultimate goal here. it's doing a terrific job of getting on his nerves, though. maybe that's the real plot. bang up job, folks.

holding onto that irritation does more than keep him from focusing on what could and should be a very frightening situation — it spurs him forward, keeps his reflexes sharper than fear would. that's the main reason why he's able to stop himself from colliding with the girl when he comes across her on the path, but it doesn't keep his nerves as steady. steely determination gives way to surprise which in turn melts into something a little more empathetic. and so, the look he gives Rhonda isn't one of mean-spirited delight at watching her squirm away from him or vicious anger, but one of clear concern from a worried adult.]

Easy, easy! I'm not going to hurt you!

[Forgive her for not believing you, Stine, but the last time Rhonda put her trust in someone to not hurt her they nearly scared her literally to death. No luxury of a "beware you're in for a scare" warning either.

She's still trying to distance herself from the man before her, slowly pushing her body back with her hands. She only stops when feeling of cold dirt beneath her skin is too much. Instead she grasps at her dress. It's not much but it's there and it's all she has. It's clear she's not as frantic now as she was just a moment ago but the adrenaline is still very present in her system and it shows in those little shaky mannerisms. Her eyes are wide and utterly terrified when she looks up at him, completely wordless.]

[goodness, she's a wiry little thing. all skin and bones, wearing a costume — at least, he thinks it's a costume, it's hard to tell in a place like this where people wear clothing that's much stranger — that practically hangs off her. there's something really sad about watching her claw at whatever fabric she can grab at, like she half-expects it to shield her or hide her, but it's not nearly as bad as the look she gives him. Stine recognizes it all too well from his own childhood; wide-eyed, abject terror that muddles everything else but the monster you're caught staring down.]

Look. [he shows her his hands, open-palmed and empty.] See? Nothing.

[moving as deliberately slow as possible, he starts to lower himself to his knees, trying to put himself on her level.]

I'm not out to get you. All I'm trying to do is find my way out of here.

[Though it doesn't ease her heart entirely the effort does a good job of calming her down to a controllable level. For the most part. There's still that lingering tension-- a jittery nervousness that probably won't subside for a good while-- but it's a vast improvement on where she was just a little bit ago.

Rhonda finally takes the time to adjust her glasses, gazing at Stine warily.]

You're lost?

[his lips curl in a way that isn't entirely humorless. he does the same thing with his glasses, too, more reflexively than anything; at least they have something positive in common.]

Oh, I'm afraid so.

[well, that's a bit of a stretch at this point because he certainly doesn't sound very upset. just dry; tired and exasperated, two qualities that go hand-in-hand and are precisely the kind of provokers that make him nudge his glasses up the bridge of his nose with his thumb see? instinct.]

And it isn't just your everyday, garden variety sort of lost. This kind is a little more irritating.

[and a lot more horrible, but she doesn't need to know that yet.]
