JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

- You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
- We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
- Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
- The Reserve date is 01/29.
- Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
- Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
rhonda | trick r treat
[This is all too familiar to Rhonda. Not even familiar in the comfortably distant sense-- this is feels far too recent for her liking.
She's been walking in circles for what feels like hours now and every second weighs on her shoulders. Maybe it's just paranoia wearing her down but she swears that she can hear giggling in the distance-- distinctly childlike.
All of this reminds her of a situation she'd found herself in recently. A situation involving a bus of children that were supposedly murdered on a night like this. A situation in which a bunch of kids from school tried to play a sick joke on her. A situation that, ultimately, lead to the prank blowing up in their faces while Rhonda left them behind and--
Oh god. Oh god what if this is some sort of punishment? What if she's finally getting her comeuppance for abandoning the others? No, no. They deserved what they got. If given the chance they would have done the same. Hell, they practically did the same to her already. But still, she can't help but wonder.
She turns around, her boots crunching on the leaves beneath her. Even though her glasses slip a little as she turns her head skyward she doesn't move to adjust them. Perhaps this mixture of terrified concentration on the woods surrounding her and the sounds of it are why she doesn't notice you approach. Perhaps that's why she nearly jumps out of her skin, falling to the ground and pushing herself away from you hurriedly with her feet.]
Get away from me! Get away!
THREE: SHADE
[Being well-informed on a wide variety of topics is one of Rhonda's special interests and something she takes great pride in. Sure it's gotten her head dunked in a toilet on a number of occasions but really what about her hasn't? That's all in the past now. What's important is how she's been changing.
Her skin had translucent and dark-- she'd call it shadowy if she were more poetic. Slowly but surely she found that she no longer needed her glasses to see. In fact she could see better without them now more than ever. On the topic of her eyes they're completely white now and they glow. That's a shade if ever Rhonda had seen one. Or, rather, read of one.
Regardless of how much she might know about monsters it's a whole other thing becoming one. Getting used to this form is becoming difficult. She quite literally can't get a grasp on the situation, you find, as you spot her struggling to hold onto a book. It phases through her hands, falling with a thud on the sidewalk (revealing its title: "How To Deal With Changes"). Though it might seem futile she doesn't know when to give it up. She just keeps trying to pick that sucker up.
Why don't you give her a hand? Hers are out of commission.]
three
[There's an older man here leaning on a cane and wearing some ridiculous manner of outfit. He walks right over, and picks up the book, only to...immediately open it and start reading it.]
no subject
...That's mine.
[Her reply is quiet and even, as one would state a fact rather than an observation.]
no subject
Oh, yes. I do believe it is.
[...he looks back down and keeps reading.]
no subject
I want it back, please.
no subject
[There's a shrug. He places the book down. Back on the ground. Where he found it.]
no subject
Feeling a little defeated she stoops down to pick up the book herself, though inevitably it phases right through her fingers. She pauses, licking her lips indecisively before she tries again.]
Could you pick it up for me?
[She thinks on that]
And give it to me this time?
two!
holding onto that irritation does more than keep him from focusing on what could and should be a very frightening situation — it spurs him forward, keeps his reflexes sharper than fear would. that's the main reason why he's able to stop himself from colliding with the girl when he comes across her on the path, but it doesn't keep his nerves as steady. steely determination gives way to surprise which in turn melts into something a little more empathetic. and so, the look he gives Rhonda isn't one of mean-spirited delight at watching her squirm away from him or vicious anger, but one of clear concern from a worried adult.]
Easy, easy! I'm not going to hurt you!
no subject
She's still trying to distance herself from the man before her, slowly pushing her body back with her hands. She only stops when feeling of cold dirt beneath her skin is too much. Instead she grasps at her dress. It's not much but it's there and it's all she has. It's clear she's not as frantic now as she was just a moment ago but the adrenaline is still very present in her system and it shows in those little shaky mannerisms. Her eyes are wide and utterly terrified when she looks up at him, completely wordless.]
no subject
Look. [he shows her his hands, open-palmed and empty.] See? Nothing.
[moving as deliberately slow as possible, he starts to lower himself to his knees, trying to put himself on her level.]
I'm not out to get you. All I'm trying to do is find my way out of here.
no subject
Rhonda finally takes the time to adjust her glasses, gazing at Stine warily.]
You're lost?
no subject
Oh, I'm afraid so.
[well, that's a bit of a stretch at this point because he certainly doesn't sound very upset. just dry; tired and exasperated, two qualities that go hand-in-hand and are precisely the kind of provokers that make him nudge his glasses up the bridge of his nose with his thumb see? instinct.]
And it isn't just your everyday, garden variety sort of lost. This kind is a little more irritating.
[and a lot more horrible, but she doesn't need to know that yet.]
