JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is 01/29.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[She catches the scent, and raises an eyebrow but doesn't otherwise comment. Has Ginko been here so long that he ran out of his usual supply? It hadn't been that long since he had last come by to visit...]

[She listens carefully and attentively, falling easily into the mindset of the Scribe to remember every piece of information. And the news certainly is troubling, not just for the information itself but the way Ginko delivers it, tense and full of dread under that serene mask he so often wears. And it's not just a worry for her--he's suffered too, been changed in ways he can't become comfortable with.]

Involuntary compulsions are always the most troubling part of any infection. [Tanyuu pauses for a moment, and her tone turns softer with her question. She hadn't wanted to mention it before, but...] Then...the diet as well?
onegreeneye: ([troll]not sure how i feel about that)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-16 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[He hesitates, and then nods. Just a quick dip of his head, but it gets the point across well enough.]

It's... one of the aspects that can't really be avoided.

[He knows well enough what that implies about him. He can't deny it, nor does he particularly want to try, especially not to Tanyuu.]

[She's quiet for a few long moments, looking at her dear friend, before reaching and placing a hand gently on his shoulder, just for a moment.]

And none of you are to blame for that.

[They're words Tanyuu is sure he has said before, that he knows are true...but they seem like something he needs to hear from another person's voice, right now.]

[Her hand drops, and she takes another look at the city around them.]
When you said 'our world'...it's something different than the influence of Isei, isn't it?

onegreeneye: (to be completely honest...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Ginko tenses a bit, then he nods again, the movement just as minimal as before.] Of course.

[He looks up, giving a soft hum of agreement.] Very. Most of the people here seem to be from entirely different times and places, if not separate realities - in fact, before now, I'd only run into two other people who I knew to be from our world.
fourthscribe: (So you were alive)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Tanyuu is starting to get the feeling she won't be receiving much good news today.]

Only two? I wonder if I should be flattered that I was chosen. [It's said with a wry, flippant attitude, but her mind is already racing thinking about the implications of that. If there are so many different directions back out of this world, how will they know which is the right one?]
onegreeneye: ([troll]side-eyeing you pretty hard rn)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives a quiet snort, but responds simply,] I wouldn't. It's not exactly like winning a prize, here... more like the opposite of that.

[That sentence kinda fell short.]
fourthscribe: (Bring him in)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[She chuckles softly in response with a small shrug.]

You would know better than me. ...how long have you been here? [Isolated pockets of reality tended to be warped in time as well as space--no reason that this place was any different.]
onegreeneye: (did i leave the oven on)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He hesitates, just for a moment. He can't know, come to think of it, just when Tanyuu is from in comparison to him. But he does know that there's bound to be a mismatch between the last time she saw him and the last time he saw her.

After all, possibly the only way he would go over a year without visiting would be if he were dead.]

Nearly two years now.

[At some point, he stopped keeping track of the exact number of months.]
fourthscribe: (Workin' hard)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Two--?!

[Even knowing what she does, all the records she's poured over, Tanyuu hadn't expected an answer like that. She stares up at Ginko, her expression a mix of emotions with worry the clearest of all.]

It...it was only four months ago that I saw you last.
onegreeneye: (...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives a slow, thoughtful nod.]

Figured as much... time here definitely seems to operate more or less independently from all the worlds it's connected to. It can have some... interesting effects.
fourthscribe: (It's all a record of death)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
To say the least. [Not that it will stop Tama from having a heart attack when she realizes what happened...but at least she won't be gone for nearly so long.]

[Small favors.]

[After a moment of silence, Tanyuu blinks and frowns.]
If you've been here two years...have you had problems with the local mushi?
onegreeneye: (seriously tho)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
...Well. That's another thing about this place.

[He takes his cigarette out of his mouth, holding it between his index and middle fingers for a moment as he glances at Tanyuu again.]

Have you seen a single mushi since getting here?
fourthscribe: (Moles?)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[She pauses for a moment, frowning and looking around.]

...well, no. But my sight for them has never been all that good.
onegreeneye: (to be completely honest...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
True... but frankly, it wouldn't matter if it were.

[He doesn't need to explain how good his own sight for mushi is - Tanyuu knows that perfectly well. Ginko has always been able to see things that even most other mushi masters can't.]

I've been here for nearly two years now, and in all that time? I haven't encountered any mushi. A few things that resembled them, sure, but those always turned out to be something else.

So far as I can tell, there simply are no mushi here at all.
fourthscribe: (Techniques of sealing)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-19 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
[...what.]

[What?]

[She must have heard that wrong, that's not...that's not possible! That's like saying that fish don't exist, or air!]

You're completely certain? If this place changed you like this, maybe it found a way to...take the sight from us as well?
onegreeneye: (...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-19 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've considered that...but it's not just that they aren't visible. There's no sign of the sorts of effects or infections typically caused by mushi - or at least, none that don't inevitably turn out to be caused by the gods here. And, even after I've been trapped here for this long, and even lived in the same city for most of that time, there doesn't seem to have been any effect.
fourthscribe: (A lonely life)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-20 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Tanyuu looks at Ginko for a long moment, not disbelieving him but still finding it difficult to accept.]

But that...it doesn't make sense. They're part of everything, if they were gone the whole balance would be destroyed. And...

[Her hand grips tight onto her right knee, still paralyzed as it had been since they day she was born. What did that mean for her?]
onegreeneye: (and that's how i told nature to fuck off)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-21 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought, too. But, somehow, this place seems to function without them.

[He catches that small movement, and his tail gives the tiniest worried flick in response.]

...But it seems that some leftover effects from our own worlds can remain. At least at first.
fourthscribe: (Moles?)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Her expression falls slightly, a tinge of guilt flashing through before she covers it up. But something about the way Ginko phrased that sticks out, and Tanyuu looks back at him curiously.]

Then, your eye...?
onegreeneye: supposedly anyway ([troll]two eyes are better than one)

i thought i had tagged this last night but i guess i never posted it?? a+

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-22 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Without a word, he pushes his bangs aside. The eye staring back at her now isn't human, by any means, but it's definitely there.]

This showed up a couple months after I started changing. Seems to see heat rather than light.
fourthscribe: (Bring him in)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-22 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Heat?

[Couldn't this place at least choose a theme with the changes Ginko went through? Still, she can't help the small smile that quirks at her lips.]

One sight replaced with another, hm?
onegreeneye: (about time)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-22 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently. [He gives a quiet snort and leans back against the bench.] Took some getting used to, I have to admit.
fourthscribe: (I like them!)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I would be surprised if it didn't! What's it like?

[Sorry, Ginko, but little sister just got curious again.]
onegreeneye: (...)

[personal profile] onegreeneye 2016-01-23 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's... kind of strange. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it seems to be a lot more focused on finding living beings in particular than anything else.

[He's... not going to bother elaborating on why that is.]
fourthscribe: (It's all a record of death)

[personal profile] fourthscribe 2016-01-23 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...well, that's why snakes and the like evolved similar senses, isn't it?

[Given the context, it's reasonable...still morbid, but reasonable.]

What other sorts of changes have people gone through? Are they all the same, or are there variations?
