JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

- You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
- We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
- Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
- The Reserve date is 01/29.
- Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
- Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[Even knowing what she does, all the records she's poured over, Tanyuu hadn't expected an answer like that. She stares up at Ginko, her expression a mix of emotions with worry the clearest of all.]
It...it was only four months ago that I saw you last.
no subject
Figured as much... time here definitely seems to operate more or less independently from all the worlds it's connected to. It can have some... interesting effects.
no subject
[Small favors.]
[After a moment of silence, Tanyuu blinks and frowns.] If you've been here two years...have you had problems with the local mushi?
no subject
[He takes his cigarette out of his mouth, holding it between his index and middle fingers for a moment as he glances at Tanyuu again.]
Have you seen a single mushi since getting here?
no subject
...well, no. But my sight for them has never been all that good.
no subject
[He doesn't need to explain how good his own sight for mushi is - Tanyuu knows that perfectly well. Ginko has always been able to see things that even most other mushi masters can't.]
I've been here for nearly two years now, and in all that time? I haven't encountered any mushi. A few things that resembled them, sure, but those always turned out to be something else.
So far as I can tell, there simply are no mushi here at all.
no subject
[What?]
[She must have heard that wrong, that's not...that's not possible! That's like saying that fish don't exist, or air!]
You're completely certain? If this place changed you like this, maybe it found a way to...take the sight from us as well?
no subject
no subject
But that...it doesn't make sense. They're part of everything, if they were gone the whole balance would be destroyed. And...
[Her hand grips tight onto her right knee, still paralyzed as it had been since they day she was born. What did that mean for her?]
no subject
[He catches that small movement, and his tail gives the tiniest worried flick in response.]
...But it seems that some leftover effects from our own worlds can remain. At least at first.
no subject
Then, your eye...?
i thought i had tagged this last night but i guess i never posted it?? a+
This showed up a couple months after I started changing. Seems to see heat rather than light.

[Couldn't this place at least choose a theme with the changes Ginko went through? Still, she can't help the small smile that quirks at her lips.]
One sight replaced with another, hm?
no subject
no subject
[Sorry, Ginko, but little sister just got curious again.]
no subject
[He's... not going to bother elaborating on why that is.]
no subject
[Given the context, it's reasonable...still morbid, but reasonable.]
What other sorts of changes have people gone through? Are they all the same, or are there variations?
no subject
There are variations, yes - a good number, actually. But they don't happen randomly; it's actually possible to divide up what kinds of changes people get by... species, I suppose you could say. Once one can guess what they're becoming, it's possible to form a general estimate of what kinds of changes may happen from there.
no subject
So there is some order to it... Can you remember all the different--'species', and their defining characteristics off-hand?
no subject
Trolls. What I am. [He taps a claw against one of the crystals protruding from his shoulder.] Rocks growing from the body, sometimes fur, tusks, or tails... Problems with aggression are common.
[His ears twitch back, and he goes on hurriedly.] Nymphs seem to be made of plants, and have a sort of mental connection to them. It's usually pretty easy to recognize when someone is turning into one. Manticores tend to develop catlike traits, but generally have wings, and stingers on their tails. Werewolves most resemble dogs, wolves... even foxes, sometimes. Harpies develop traits like those of birds. Arachne have spiderlike bodies and spin webs. Nagas have snake tails instead of legs; gargoyles have reptilian traits as well, but generally keep their legs and grow wings. Minotaurs can resemble bulls, sheep, or goats, from what I've seen, but they always have hooves and horns. Werebears are... well, they look like bears. And wendigos seem to resemble deer... as well as being undead, so far as I can tell.
...Those are the ones that specifically eat meat. It works... a little differently for the others.
