TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance! Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday). Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply. Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch... SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation. SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Oh. He wasn't expecting that, and it makes him freeze for a moment. He can handle this, maybe, and at least he knows Reira is still there. Not that he thinks something would actually manage to swoop in and snatch the kid before Bucky saw it, but. Slowly-carefully-he straightens up.]

I won't let anything hurt you.

[He's heard people say that, and it feels right in this situation.]

That is so much more reassuring than 'smile, it's ok!'.

In fact, it even gets a tiny, tiny ghost of one in reply as he nods. Alright Bucky--he'll trust you on that.]

[Bucky tries to mimic that tiny little smile. He's not so good at them himself, but he hopes it's worth the effort. Maybe it's even reassuring.

Taking another deep breath, he looks around, taking note of the direction he came from and the direction he'd been headed in, and then-slowly-starts to head in his originally intended direction again.]

[It is--it's enough. He'll start walking to match Bucky's pace, smile soon dropping as he focuses his attentions forward. They'll surely have to get out of this forest soon right..?

[He keeps his attention focused on their surroundings, listening to every simple forest noise, small animals scurrying through the grass, leaves rustling with the breeze. Should he try to make small talk? Would that help the boy relax?]

Do you have anyone here?

[...Yes and no really--he doesn't seem to be talkative as it is, but he doesn't totally mind the chatter right now.

As long as no one gets upset when he doesn't say much back, he's fine.]

...no... [...Well at least that explains why he's in the forest at all.]

[Bucky doesn't mind at all; those are the same kind of short answers he'd give someone.]

Neither do I.

[Maybe they could be, what's that word he's heard people use? Friends? He'd seen that in the museum, too. Friends.]

Mnh... [...You don't either? He looks up, blinking. ...That's not something he saw from anyone else at all. Well. They were 'alone' in a sense, but most of the people he saw coming in found someone else pretty fast.]

[Can he move his hand from the sleeve to your hand? ..it feels to him that will be ok now.]

We doooo. I'm loving their thread so far.

[Is that surprising? That he doesn't have any friends or anyone he knows here? He hasn't been here long enough to make new friends, and honestly he's not even sure how that whole process works, and with no familiar faces from home, well, he's alone. He doesn't mind so much though, because he's not used to having them in the first place.]

Do you have a safe place?

[Because somehow that fit together with not being alone. It might have been even more important, too, at least in Bucky's opinion.

Oh. Hand holding is also strange for him, but he doesn't mind that either. In fact, he's glad that Reira feels safe enough to do that.]

[Maybe--it seems to him that people are normally in groups, at least.

Something like that. He just shakes his head in reply to the next question. No home, not right now.]

[That doesn't surprise him, and he's about to have another of the same answers.]

Me neither. I'm...working on it, though.

[Maybe. Nowhere here feels safe, which is a problem.]

[He nods--that's a good plan after all. First though what's important is...

Getting out. Reira's eyes move up to the trees above, looking to see if they can spot the sky between the branches. Maybe if the sun's out they can use that...or the stars (are they even the same stars..?).]

[cryogenics]

[Bucky hasn't even considered that, but what he has been thinking of is climbing to the top of one of these trees to get a better look around. Maybe he could see a town from up there. But of course, doing that now also means having to leave the kid alone for a few minutes. Not that the kid hasn't managed this far on his own, but.]

Do you think the trees are tall enough to see the town from the top?

[Hmnn. He narrows his eyes a moment but in the end...]

...maybe... ..maybe the edge... [...The edge of the wood, that would certainly be a strong possibility. Even if they're not in town it'll be better than nothing.]

The edge?

[He frowns, looking down at the kid. Even if he can't see town from the top, if he does decide to climb, he might at least be able to see something to help get them going in the right direction.]

Mn... [He nods, looking down again.] ....the forest edge...

[Well if Buck decides to take the climb, Reira will let go of his hand--as long as he sticks to this tree after all he should be fine right?]

[cryogenics]

Right.

[And seeing the edge of the woods would help them at least get out of that. Finding their way back to town would be much easier with more open space. First, he locates a tree that seems both tall enough and strong enough.]

I'm going to go up and take a look, okay? Stay close to the tree and be quiet.

[Right! Just a nod, and he'll sit by the tree. Ok...]

[Bucky doesn't take long. He scales the tree quickly, only pausing to make sure the branches can support his weight, and takes a moment to survey the landscape once at the top. It's a good thing he's not bothered by heights. Once he's pretty sure he can remember which way is the edge of the forest, he climbs back down, taking care not to squash the kid when he drops down from the tree.]

The closest edge is that way. [He gestures.]

[Yes, squishing the small child would be a bad idea.

Once Bucky's back, Reira is pulling himself back up to his feet and coming near, nodding. Alright, they can go then--if he can, he'll hold the other's hand again.]

[cryogenics]

[He's expecting it this time, and turns his palm towards Reira. Touching like this is still very strange, and he doesn't understand it in the slightest, but he's used to doing things he doesn't understand and isn't very comfortable with. Besides, this seemed to help, so what did it really hurt? Staying close is a good idea, anyway.]

[It certainly makes things feel safer at the least. And if they just keep going straight now, then things should be fine. Straight for the exit. Alright.]

[He's usually a way better navigator than this, so now that he knows where they should be going, he should be able to get them out of there. He's more confident, at least. But. What is he going to do about this kid when they get out? Babysitting was never in his skill set. There's a while to think about it, at least, as he takes care to guide them in a straight line, pausing whenever he hears something rustling in the bushes, and hoping it's just some small animal.]

suddenly thoughts move to '...what would buck say if he saw the kid's wearin a collar..'

[Probably a rabbit. Hopefully...a rabbit right?

Maybe there'll be someplace in Vandare or whatever place is closest when they're out. It can't be that hard to find someone willing to look after them right? sure there's the whole turning into a monster thing but heyyyy.

Reira's actions rather curiously mirror Bucky's own, actually. Each sound has his attentions snapping to it, big wide eyes staring when they pause until he feels the other moving again.

Oh god. He would be mildly alarmed and concerned.

[Hopefully a rabbit of the non-murderous variety. Either way, Bucky starts moving a little faster. It's hard to remember about tiny child legs in comparison to great big super soldier strides and endurance. At least he goes around the bushes.]
