Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[He nods--that's a good plan after all. First though what's important is...
Getting out. Reira's eyes move up to the trees above, looking to see if they can spot the sky between the branches. Maybe if the sun's out they can use that...or the stars (are they even the same stars..?).]
[Bucky hasn't even considered that, but what he has been thinking of is climbing to the top of one of these trees to get a better look around. Maybe he could see a town from up there. But of course, doing that now also means having to leave the kid alone for a few minutes. Not that the kid hasn't managed this far on his own, but.]
Do you think the trees are tall enough to see the town from the top?
[Hmnn. He narrows his eyes a moment but in the end...]
...maybe... ..maybe the edge... [...The edge of the wood, that would certainly be a strong possibility. Even if they're not in town it'll be better than nothing.]
[He frowns, looking down at the kid. Even if he can't see town from the top, if he does decide to climb, he might at least be able to see something to help get them going in the right direction.]
[And seeing the edge of the woods would help them at least get out of that. Finding their way back to town would be much easier with more open space. First, he locates a tree that seems both tall enough and strong enough.]
I'm going to go up and take a look, okay? Stay close to the tree and be quiet.
[Bucky doesn't take long. He scales the tree quickly, only pausing to make sure the branches can support his weight, and takes a moment to survey the landscape once at the top. It's a good thing he's not bothered by heights. Once he's pretty sure he can remember which way is the edge of the forest, he climbs back down, taking care not to squash the kid when he drops down from the tree.]
[Yes, squishing the small child would be a bad idea.
Once Bucky's back, Reira is pulling himself back up to his feet and coming near, nodding. Alright, they can go then--if he can, he'll hold the other's hand again.]
[He's expecting it this time, and turns his palm towards Reira. Touching like this is still very strange, and he doesn't understand it in the slightest, but he's used to doing things he doesn't understand and isn't very comfortable with. Besides, this seemed to help, so what did it really hurt? Staying close is a good idea, anyway.]
[It certainly makes things feel safer at the least. And if they just keep going straight now, then things should be fine. Straight for the exit. Alright.]
[He's usually a way better navigator than this, so now that he knows where they should be going, he should be able to get them out of there. He's more confident, at least. But. What is he going to do about this kid when they get out? Babysitting was never in his skill set. There's a while to think about it, at least, as he takes care to guide them in a straight line, pausing whenever he hears something rustling in the bushes, and hoping it's just some small animal.]
suddenly thoughts move to '...what would buck say if he saw the kid's wearin a collar..'
[[OOC - everyone watching this series hopes it's a fashion thing tbh,,,]]
[Probably a rabbit. Hopefully...a rabbit right?
Maybe there'll be someplace in Vandare or whatever place is closest when they're out. It can't be that hard to find someone willing to look after them right? sure there's the whole turning into a monster thing but heyyyy.
Reira's actions rather curiously mirror Bucky's own, actually. Each sound has his attentions snapping to it, big wide eyes staring when they pause until he feels the other moving again.
[Hopefully a rabbit of the non-murderous variety. Either way, Bucky starts moving a little faster. It's hard to remember about tiny child legs in comparison to great big super soldier strides and endurance. At least he goes around the bushes.]
How old are you?
[That's a good topic...right?]
I am too //please arc v, tell us--// (it could be either end of the 'ok/nope' scale -sobs- /anime/)
[He does an ok job keeping up at least--if Buck REALLY wants to move he'll definitely have to pick the kid up, but that goes without saying for 'adult speed'.
Ah well.] Mn... 7... [7. Well he certainly looks it...]
[That thought has crossed his mind. If it comes down to them needing to make a break for it, and his options were to abandon the kid or grab him and run, Bucky would grab him. He just hopes they don't have to do that. He thinks he can see a break in the trees up ahead, but he's not sure if it's the edge of the woods or a clearing yet.
He also frowns. That's...young, isn't it? Especially for children to be on their own? He thinks it is.]
[Even if it is, they're likely a long way from either town. Bucky's not even tired, despite being lost for a while before running into Reira, and then climbing a tree. Thankfully, when they get closer, and after he pushes some branches out of the way for the kid, they've emerged from the woods. But like Bucky figured, neither town is in sight.
[Bucky considers that answer for a moment, eyeing the kid. He just...has to figure out the best way to do this. He's not so used to asking permission yet; the Winter Soldier acted, he didn't ask. Instead, he reaches down and scoops Reira up, propping him on Bucky's hip. He's seen mothers carrying their children like this, and it's better than hefting the kid up like a sack of potatoes...right?]
-laughs remembering many shots in-series of the kid just being carried around by the waist-
Wh-hhaH-H! [It's less a sound of fear and more one of simply surprise to be honest. He's perhaps a bit too tired to even be bothered with any fear. It's a little awkward of a carry--probably more because of who's doing what, and he grabs Buck's shoulder with one hand to at least support himself there.
Once it's stable enough though... ...he seems fine. Perhaps stunned silent, but fine.]
[That makes him stop for a good five seconds, worrying. Did he accidentally hurt the boy? He doesn't think he did; he'd been as careful as he knows how. He's just sorry about the hard, unyielding metal arm around Reira. At least he's safe and won't slip though.]
Is this okay?
Earned the other character the OOC nickname 'Ninja Babysitter' yep
[That's a relief. And he can cover more ground more quickly, this way, without having to worry about Reira keeping up. Plus, if something happens, he already has the kid close.]
Good.
[He nods, looks one way and then the other, and starts walking, keeping the woods they'd just left on his right.]
[A lot more quickly in fact--that's not even considering the possibility of something stalking them for a snack. Now that there's no worry to keep moving though, Bucky might find that his travelling companion goes even more quiet after a few moments.
...In some ways at least.
His head might drop against the shoulder as he falls asleep.]

[Well if Buck decides to take the climb, Reira will let go of his hand--as long as he sticks to this tree after all he should be fine right?]

Victory!
The closest edge is that way. [He gestures.]

Reira can see a bit of a break as well, himself; it's enough for him to blink with evident relief, even sighing a touch as they come near.
Oh please be an exit...it's just a little strenuous for someone his age to be walking this long.]
