Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
Don't worry, this isn't the Unknown. [She shakes her head.] And I didn't exactly expect to see you here either! I thought you and Greg were safe at home, finally. Instead you got yourself stuck in another forest, you--
[She stops herself mid-insult.] Wait, you talked to the people here? What crazy stuff did they tell you?
[Wirt digs around in his pocket, eventually removing a crumpled pamphlet. After taking a second to smooth it out, he offers it to her. "You Are What You Eat: A Guide to Your New Dietary Needs." Were any of these normal?]
[He starts after her without question, tripping over his feet a little in his attempt to catch up. Wasn't this the way he came from? Or... maybe it was the other direction. It was getting harder to tell as they started to lose light. The trees had started to feel oppressive, imposing -- their branches outstretched like gnarled hands grasping out in the darkness.]
Wait, what do you mean, it wasn't just you? You can't just say things like that without an explanation!
[She can, and she does. But her pace slows after a minute, not because she wants to give Wirt a chance to catch up. No, no, it's definitely to... look at the trees some more. Yes.]
Keep up. I don't want to be in here when it's dark.
--is Greg with you? [Only checking. She's pretty sure Wirt wouldn't let him wander around alone again, but he could be playing a game somewhere.]
[He hunches his shoulders, fingers toying anxiously with the front of his cape.]
No. I-I mean, I don't think so. They said there were others, but I didn't--
[Everything had been happening so fast. Sure, the forest had really been his first chance to get away, to think... but wasn't that his problem in the first place? Here he was, repeating old mistakes already. What if they had fished Greg out, and he was wondering where he was?
... What if they'd fished him out, but he couldn't?]
[It's her turn to be awkward as she moves to give him a pat on the shoulder. This was so much easier when she was a bird.]
Wirt, no-- look, I'm sure he's not here. I didn't see him earlier and no one mentioned a kid with a teapot on his head. [Not that she was looking for him or asking around but what Wirt doesn't know can't send him into a spiral of sadness and worry.]
[He trails off into silence. So he can what? Do what he should have done in the first place? Wirt looks away, his hands curling into tight fists by his sides.]
...stop being such a nerd? I hate to be the one to tell you, but that's not gonna happen.
[He's not allowed to stand there feeling sorry for himself. Beatrice grabs one of his wrists and starts pulling (not yanking, he feels bad enough already) him down the path.]
It'll be fine. As long as we don't follow the creepy laughter we'll be out of here in no time.
[He doesn't put up any resistance, just letting Beatrice pull him along as they walk. Sure, they'd find their way out. But where was here? What he'd thought an end to his long journey was instead a mirage -- a mirage hiding the road stretching endlessly before him. Would he ever reach the end? Was he doomed never to return--
[The exasperated sigh she makes is so very familiar. Beatrice is in a hurry-- and if he's decided to do something passive-aggressive and stubborn she's going to hit him.]
No. Before. They said no one remembered how they got there, but... I still remember leaving with Greg. And you were still...
[He looks away, a little awkwardly. Is it weird to bring that up, now that she's back to normal? What's the etiquette involved when your friend spent time as a small woodland creature?]
[It's obvious he's trying not to sound too hopeful. Maybe that isn't the last thing that happened. Maybe Greg is home, safe. Wirt starts walking again, faster this time.]
[She hesitates. There's a chance that Wirt was just being thick, that he hadn't questioned everything like she had. But if it was just her... what if it was just her? Or a prank?]
--nothing! I was just seeing if you were listening or not! [Nailed it.]

So it wasn't just me. And every title is so dumb...
C'mon, Wirt. We're getting out of here. [And down the path she starts, pamphlet crumpled in her hand.]

I-I should have checked, I'm so stupid...

He stops.]
... Hey. Beatrice?

Yes, Wirt?
no subject
What's the last thing you remember?
no subject
Remember? Uh, walking in the forest and running into you?

...I don't know, okay? It's a blur. I used the scissors, I was with my family, and then I was in their stupid hospital.
no subject

Let's keep moving. It can't be much further.
no subject
...so they gave you a bunch of things about turning into something, right? You didn't just pick that up from somewhere.
no subject
Uh, maybe? I mean, I didn't actually read them. I kind of assumed they were all crazy after reading the titles.
no subject
She smooths out the pamphlet he gave her earlier, giving it a thoughtful look before hitting him upside the head with it.]
Wirt! You're in a weird new place where they tell you you're going to turn into a monster and you didn't even read the stuff they gave you?!
no subject
Ow! Hey! They didn't-- [He stops, reconsidering the most important part of the sentence.] Turn into a monster? What do you mean, turn into a monster?!
no subject
--nothing! I was just seeing if you were listening or not! [Nailed it.]
