TEST DRIVE, MARCH ROUND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • The reserve date has been announced.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Not a badass monster. Just her luck. Also just her luck that the word 'too' shoots down any hope of crossing paths with someone that knows where they are-- or more importantly where they should be going.

The grip on her pack goes slack, lips thinned out into a mild line as she casually flexes an empty hand in a show that's not so much good faith as it is a way to make sure guards being lowered is a (mostly) mutual deal.

But her eyes are drawn to those tattoos a beat later, and she'd have to be blind not to recognize them.
] Sure does look like it, kiddo.

The hell's a siren doing here?

[ She's good at being harmless that way, or at least appearing that way.

Or is normally behind a screen and at a distance, the fact that her markings are immediately recognized is... tricky. But she passes it off quickly and easily, all small defensive movements.
]

Being just as lost as you are, it looks like. [ the hand that the tattoos run down is lifted and she wiggles her fingers as if to say, look, defenseless which would be a lie, if she was in contact with any of her powers. But she isn't and so they're just long, long lines of markings that mean absolutely nothing here. ]

[Ironically, it's a gesture that works. Despite only having the gist of the whole siren capabilities deal via interactions with Lilith that span from casual camaraderie to viciously turbulent animosity, Nisha's not dense: knows there's too much untapped potential for trouble to ever really think some small, unarmed siren is innocuous.

But the general idea so far has been nullification via relocation, so if she's lost-- if she's not flashing anything to counter that assumption-- then it's all neutral, even ground between them.

Besides, the girl doesn't seem like much of a bandit. Or a Vault Hunter.
] Don't know about you but I'm not really into this scene. Or being lost.

[A few seconds are spent on her end watching Angel before she turns just slightly towards a fork between a thick pack of trees, lifts her chin in a motion for the girl to tag along. It's as much of an invitation as she's willing to give.] Been out here long?

[ It's easier, and habit, to play dumb, to act like she doesn't know what's happening, or have any reference, and well. Jack isn't here, she'd ease her way into that bit. It wasn't something he'd ever forgive her for.

But she'd done a lot of things lately that he would never forgive her for and she was never going to give him that chance to do it, thankfully. That was all passed her.

Well, sort of. Apparently not quite. Nisha was dead too after all. Maybe this was the after life. Fitting, all the things they had both done.
]

Neither am I, but I guess we'll figure it out. [ And that bit of cheer isn't false, she's sure they'd work it out eventually. ] A couple of hours maybe, a little hard to tell.

[Which means Nisha's quick to scoff out an agreement, gold eyes fixed dead ahead in the dark, steps landing her a spot just a few inches out front. Not protective behavior (she'd be keeping a hungry pace regardless) but the fact that Angel's getting to tag along under her wing is, all things considered, a rarity.

Can't hurt, though, Nisha figures. And if it does, well, it's a problem that's easily fixed.
] Surprised a siren can't just-- whatever her way out of this mess.

Thought that's what you people did.

[ Which she does, a little unsure, an arm braced across her chest. She knew Nisha, in a way, knew what she'd done, what she was capable of. If it happened within hearing distance of Hyperion, Angel knew everything.

She just wished she didn't sometimes. Still the question gets a shaky laugh and a jerk of her head.
] Haha, nope. You'd think that but... every siren's different. Can't all be Lilith I guess.

[ Which would be admitting she knew something about Pandora, but it was feasible to, Jack's occupation of Pandora was well... universe politics. ]

[Lilith. Ugh. It's all involuntary recoiling when Nisha's attention flicks over with a clear scowl: yeah, they've got history. History of the betrayed-and-tried-to-assassinate kind, something Nisha isn't about to forget any time soon. But New Haven-- crushing it under her heel-- was the last, fresh memory she kept from Pandora, and even if finishing the job wasn't in the cards, it's a pretty soothing thought. Enough that she's grinning for it.

Enough that that smile is, surprisingly enough, aimed directly (approvingly) at Angel.
] Good to know. Won't hear any complaints from me about it.

[Even if that does mean they're stranded for the time being - something Nisha's actively engaging in as she moves to peel back a few heavy branches blocking their path, passing them off to Angel as she moves past, sap tacky against her fingers. Girl's got to pull her own weight if she's sticking around, with or without magic.]

[ It gets the response she expects. All jerking back and well -- she'd watched it because she watched everything and Nisha had fought hard. Vault hunter killed vault hunter, skags ate each other, it was -- from her long long view, how things went. They washed over each other in waves and destroyed the marks the other made.

Angel just felt so very tired of it all.

... And especially tired for the fact that her first foray of going outside wasn't exactly the greatest thing in the world. Nisha didn't have a problem with it, of course she didn't. Nisha punched bandits in the face with nothing but her spite. But Angel?

Not so much. It wasn't that Jack was right, it's just that it was very hard in some ways, as much as it was exhilarating, to be out of where she was trapped for so long. Following carefully behind the vault hunter, pushing at the branches she pushed at, taking the steps she did, imitation and usually it was to put other people at ease, right now it's survival.

Only gets so far, and inevitably a branch smacks her in the face.
] Ow.

[Meaning Nisha turns around just in time to watch her partner in crime get slapped right in the face, chasing the sight with a quick snort of genuine laughter (because come on, there's nothing that isn't funny about that).

But aside from it, there's no offer to help. No cooing or fretting or warning about the dangers of the world the way that Jack might go about it. She's waiting for Angel to clear herself - hands settled neatly (patiently) at her hips.
] Can't believe I'm watching a siren get taken out by a tree.

Come on, kiddo - quit screwing around, we got places to be.

[ If she wasn't trying to so hard to keep some sort of composure she might have something cleverer to say, but as it is, she's tugging twigs out of her hair. Twitchy. The leaves scratch, feels something that stings on her cheek.

But she bites her lip hard and stubbornly refuses to flinch for any of it. Doesn't want the help, and she doesn't doesn't want to look like she can't handle herself in front of Jack's girlfriend of all people ( and there's still some scrunch up of nose and distaste in her mouth over it ). Not where she could tell him, not when she'd done so much to prove she would never take that collar again.

Steadies her breath --
] Damnit [ habit, clips herself. ] I mean, sorry, I haven't really been out in places like this much.

[ Doesn't have to mean her cage, could just mean one of the Edens. Somewhere fully colonized and there was enough of those in the galaxy, right? ]

[The girl's young. Inexperienced and it goes without saying. But she's no teenager-- no crying, useless baby-- and once the humor ebbs off it's a scene that Nisha's not about to bother over analyzing: her back's turned yet again, and she's back to trudging forward with or without her companion in tow.] What, you mean the world?

[Dry, more a dig than any serious sort of commentary.]
