Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[Old habits die hard? She just wants to keep in contact with him right now. Until she's convinced he won't disappear if she lets go.]
[The house (which she often can't help thinking of as "home" now, and feeling guilty when she realizes she's doing it) looks like it's seen better days. It was abandoned under suspicious circumstances before she broke in and settled in a few months ago. At least now she has a key, and they don't need to climb in through the back window anymore.
Red settles onto the worn old couch, and motions for him to join her.]
[This is...not where he was expecting her to bring him.]
It's no Highrise, but...
[Her fancy apartment was just a place, anyway, the value he saw in it was that it belonged to Red. The same sentiment is extended to this place too, even though it's clearly seen better days. And, yes, he's starting to pick up on the gist of what she didn't want to tell him, but it's coming to him in vague pieces. Like how she made a beeline to this place like she knows it, and that it clearly looks "lived in" despite the abandoned aura it gives off.
He takes her invitation to join her on the couch, finishing his thought.]
[She could have gotten something better, if she'd taken the opportunity when the monster craze first hit Bavan. She almost did. But, well... this is nearer the water. Getting paid to be a living curiosity for Bavan's bored and wealthy wouldn't have really sit right with her, anyway.
Still, she winces a little when he compares the place to Highrise.]
Suddenly, everything that has happened between then and now--the Transistor in his head, waking up on the shore looking as if he'd wrestled a pack of stray dogs, and no memory of how he got from point A to point B--seems paltry compared to the fact that she's been here six months without him.
First of all, it seems impossible. Second...he couldn't imagine being without her for six months, especially with what he knows happens in this place.
He breaks the silence as he tries to work through it in his head, trying to piece together whether or not he had simply just...missed something.]
You had just woken up...I was making breakfast. Went out to get eggs, and when the coop door shut behind me...
[He trails off, and a few seconds later, there's a short, electrical thrum as the Transistor circuits flash. His hands cover the red orb in his forehead, hissing quietly in pain.]

[Eggs? Coop? Now Red's the one wondering if she missed something. The last thing she remembers is putting him in the Cradle. She opens her mouth, about to ask what he means, when the Transistor appears to shock him.
Red inhales sharply and turns in her seat to face him, reaching towards the orb.]
[Red's a city girl through and through. She's probably never seen a chicken face to face (beak?). And that doesn't answer her question at all. She tips her head to the side, staring at him in a silent prompt for more information.]
[She doesn't look surprised at all, just... far away.
(When she'd held Virus's gun to her heart, she hoped the rumors were false and she'd wake up somewhere far away, under blue skies, where nothing was broken. If she woke up at all.
Instead, she got a fireworks show in Bavan that she couldn't remember traveling to.)]
[He doesn't follow it up with anything. It's impossible tell exactly what she's thinking, and he wonders if he's told her something that he shouldn't have.
But when she asks for more, he can't help but smile warmly.]
[Though she returns the smile, it's a little strained. There's a hole in her memory, or else somehow they came here from different times... but then how was she with him, if she got here first?]
What's it like?
[Red leans against him, taking his hand in hers and examining the faint circuit lines.]
[He lets her play with his hand as she wishes, freely letting her manipulate it without resistance.]
Took you a while to get used to it. Think that applied to just about everyone, though. Once you showed up, everything...fell into place. No more blackness, no more nothing, just miles of fertile land to do whatever we want with it. Can't even vote on it, either; gotta do everything by hand.
Once we got into the swing of things, everyone managed to pool their efforts to put together one of the best weddings I've ever seen. Frankly, it was an honor to be the groom.
It would take a while... [Red honestly wouldn't have expected "the Country" to be so... literal. Would it be less of a shock now? Has her being here changed the future?]
[Her engagement ring doesn't fit on her hand anymore, but she still wears it on a chain. When he mentions the wedding, she makes a little choked noise, her free hand rising to close around it.]
[He leans in and nuzzles her hair, though the gesture is a little more awkward than he's used to with her fins there. Still, he'll be damned if he's not gonna do it.
Given her changes, he doesn't take offense to the fact that she doesn't wear her ring on her finger anymore. Seeing it on a chain around her neck means just as much if not more to him, that she's kept it so close despite everything she's gone through.]
[Don't poke your eye out on those fins, now- oh wait. Red smiles more genuinely, tipping her head to make it easier for him.
If he said as much about the ring, she'd tell him she had to keep it close. There was so little else to hold on to, and truthfully she'd begun to lose hope of ever seeing him again, either.]

I guess you can see why.
[Hint: where do fish live?]
no subject
Yeah.
[There's a pause as he inhales, then slowly lets it go.
Might as well bite.]
...How long?

[She'll just let that sink in.]

He sits in contemplative silence. Half a year.

What's wrong?
no subject
I'm fine, I'm fine. It's passing.
[He drops his hands with a sigh, and tilts his head toward the ceiling.]
Don't know why I thought it would help me remember. Damn thing's proven to be useless so far.

What was that about a coop?
no subject
What does she mean, what was that about a coop?]
Can't get much fresher than right out of the chicken.
[That answers her question...right?]
no subject
no subject
It's...it's a coop, Red. Because we have to make our own food now...?

[She tries to keep her tone light, but her brows are still knit in confusion.]

[He resists the urge to tack "Where else?" at the end, because...well, this place, apparently, is where else.
They always said you couldn't go back from the Country. They never mentioned anything about going somewhere else.]

Sounds like it's been a while...
no subject
Yeah. Couple months. Going on a year, soon. Almost everyone's settled into their own roles and routines. Even me.
[Which is saying a lot, considering how much he actively avoided the former.]
no subject
Even you? Now that's impressive.
no subject
[He chuckles.]
As much as I miss Cloudbank, there's something to be said about waking up every morning with a list of things to get done.

[She giggles and squeezes his hand.]
Things like what? Getting eggs?
