Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[Truly Shulk is a young Homs in Gideon's dazzling image. His hair's kind of a mess in comparison though. Shulk presses a hand to his mouth thoughtfully, his frown deepening. That was...almost not an answer, but it gives Shulk something to work with.]
So you're saying you were born with this ability? [Shulk bends down a little, lowering his voice.] I don't mean to worry you, but have you ever felt that the power is not your own?
[An appeal to Shulk's humanity? Very effective. He extends the same towards Gideon, nodding.] I have. That's why I'm concerned about you.
[Get used to a lot of almost not answers when you're dealing with this kid. He feels like he's stepping into some serious territory here, so he thinks a little about his answer. Well, a higher power did help him out, didn't it? And what're the odds this guy'd be able to put two and two together... eh, it's worth a shot.]
My dad'd say so, if he were here! [Appeal to dadness: not sure of effectiveness levels. Might work more on the crowd, though.] But between you and me, every now and then I need a little bit of outside help. [There. That should be... reassuringly vague. Or unreassuringly so. The point is: vague.]
That's sure sweet of you, but you've got nothing to worry 'bout, I'm fit as a fiddle! [Still. Concern's a new one, and not... it don't sound like over the monster thing, either. So he'll brush it off for now. If it's important, the stranger'll stick with it, probably.]
[Serious territory makes for good drama for the crowd though, doesn't it? Shulk is hardly paying attention to the fact that they have an audience, tilting his head back in thought. The phrasing of that answer only makes Shulk more suspicious - the boy's father might be dead and "outside help" didn't often mean anything good. He bends to be eye level with Gideon.] What's this "outside help"? Or is it a who?
[Shulk shakes his head, pressing on.] It's not something you can see on the surface. [He sucks in a breath.] I...had visions once, but it wasn't my ability.
[A beat.]
I'm asking because I believe you may have the power of a god.
[comments like these in no way would inflate someones ego]
Is that a gleam in his eyes? Must be a trick of the light, we're sure. He'll even laugh a bit. Not crossing over the line to Evil Genius Style, more along the lines of Oh, This Is Too Good. Because hell if that wasn't a ringing endorsement. Not to mention the whole, y'know, power thing. Kind of a big deal. So, believe it or not, but it does actually take Gideon a second or two to wrap his head around all this.]
Who, me? [Looks over his shoulder. Just a bit of theatrics, that's all.] That's real flattering of you to say, friend, but most of my abilities, well, they come from little ole me. [Even after an ego boost, he's still gotta make sure everybody knows just how Amazing he is.] Sometimes I pick up stuff from books, though, if that's what you mean. [Just one. But it's long gone now.] I've seen things in those you wouldn't believe, and let me tell you, it takes a lotta skill to translate that kinda vision so other folks can understand it!
[Call it. Well. Call it innate ability. He sure does. Go too far denying it, and he's definitely faking. Go too far with the truth, and he's in a whole mess of trouble. So he'll try and stick close to the middle, best he can, and if he's still a little shaken 'round the edges, well, it's not every day somebody says you might be god.
[Shulk meant that more in terms of being possessed by a possibly malevolent god, but Gideon and the audience both misinterpret what he's trying to say. The crowd erupts into a chorus of whispers of things like "It must be a gift!" Shulk's left gibbering, cheeks coloring in something akin to shame. Maybe frustration.]
I-I meant...
[Shulk shuts his mouth, exhaling harshly through his nostrils. There was too much he didn't know about this strange place. He'd...he'd heard of gods being worshiped here. In passing. He's not sure what that means for Gideon, or for him. Did they...? And books that have the future in them? Shulk remembers how he saw visions as a gift himself too, once. This Homs boy doesn't have the frame of reference he has now. This must've all sounded ridiculous to him.]
I'm sorry. If it's not too much trouble...
[Shulk digs into his bag, clenching something in his fist. He holds it out to Gideon, unfurling his fingers. A few gold coins rest in his palm. Gideon God Gleeful scores another sucker]
[Could today get any better? Maybe with ice cream, and there'd better be a lot of it. Gideon's a little red in the face, and maybe that's being embarrassed or maybe flattered or maybe just yes!]
Oh, don't you worry, there's nothin' to apologize for! [It's not every day somebody thinks he might be, well, close to Godliness and he's going to milk every second of it, if he can. Maybe in some weird way, that makes it worse, somehow. He just doesn't understand how this could go bad, and even if he did, like that'd stop him from soaking up the limelight.]

It's probably better to keep something like this under his hat until he's had a more concrete way to navigate what might be a very delicate situation. At least the boy seems to be in an even more pleasant mood, in spite of what to him was a very grim conversation.]

[Shulk waits patiently for the boy to parse his vision, tilting his head when he gets his future. Fortunately for Gideon, Shulk interprets it as mostly metaphorical - perhaps it was too far of a vision for him to see or understand clearly. Maybe like when he himself had seen Prison Island. If not for a chance meeting he might never have found it. And oddly enough, this vision sounds...positive.
In that case, he'd just have to do his best to make sure the boy's vision for him comes true. Shulk tips his head in affirmation.]

[Shulk turns on his heel then, stopping short of leaving to glance over his shoulder, giving Gideon a tired smile.]
