Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[Another neutral response. Please, Sybil, he listens to Red's music more than anyone else, even the pitched compositions, all of their subtle macabre and apocalyptic messages. You'll have to try a lot harder than that.]
Sounds like it's inevitable. No reason to worry about it for now.
[ There's a reason she was enamored by Red's music. There was a lot that she couldn't ever do, and it all existed there. All the things she could never find the words for. But she wasn't here with Red, she couldn't sit and listen for hours. ]
[ She looks at him as if he'd just forgiven her-- shock plainly evident on her face. ]
So you just bottle it up inside? Let it happen? [ She's tempted to add, but instead thinks to herself "No wonder you don't have any control over your life." ]
First: I'm not bottling anything up. Second: Of all the people that have washed up here, I won't be the one to make a breakthrough and figure out how to stop it.
[ She dreams about many things, it makes sense for that to be one of them, gosh. ]
Maybe the transformation will make that face of yours look less... [ She pauses, searching for the word... she settles on the only one fitting, matching what it meant to her. ] Terrifying.
[ Almost all of her dreams involving him are nightmares. Less sweet. ]
Maybe you will grow more eyes, more of those. [ It's obvious that she's staring at that lens-eye of his, and she even points at it. ] You are more unlucky than I am.
[Honestly, what's gotten into her? What made this bubbly socialite so bitter and vindictive? Is almost as if she was still Processed--...
He turns his head back to focus on the path in front of them, deciding not to validate her statement with any recognition. If this game of "grass on the other side is blacker" is what makes her feel better about her own sad existence, then so be it.]
[ Was it really so strange to think about, when he had the Transistor fused into him? Was it so much of a stretch that she, too, did not come here unscathed? Just because it wasn't visible, didn't mean it wasn't there. ]
[ But her thoughts are in the worst places, and she's desperate for communication rather than silence, so after some time of nothing, she decides to ask a question. An awful question. ] Why her?
[He's coming to realize that himself. Things radically changed back in Cloudbank; it's honestly not that crazy to see the effects bleed into them. Just because they've been taken to another place doesn't mean those effects are just going to go away.
Oh, and don't get him wrong. He could talk about Red nonstop for days.
He's just not sure he wants to talk about her to Sybil.]
[ Every part of it was here to stay, slowly seeping into their lives. His and hers would be the worst, as the two most affected by the events that transpired in Cloudbank. They could try to deal with the effects, but the memories would always be around to haunt them. ]
[ That was not the response she wanted, nor a question she wanted to answer. A part of her didn't want to hear her name leave his lips, but another part... she knew, even if she wouldn't admit, how much Red lit up around him. She hadn't stood a chance. ]
[ But even so. With her emotions running raw, all she has left in abundance is her curiosity. ]
[ Enjoy Sybil staring, Boxer. Staring, and staring. His answer doesn't spark any emotions in her. No jealousy, no hatred, no sadness, nothing at all. ]
[ It's empty. ]
That's all. [ She states the words simply, and as she does she stops walking entirely. She stares at him for a few moments before she turns away, deciding that she didn't want this after all. There's nothing in this conversation for her. There's no benefit to any of this. ]
[ Sorry Boxer, welcome to the emotional minefield. Keep setting off the mines, don't get caught in the explosions. Come back later for an actual conversation. ]
[Yeah, he didn't think she was going to get anything she wanted out of that line of questioning. Of course, he could have given her more information, but he was vague on purpose. Details of their personal lives are not Sybil's right to know, especially when she's the kind of person to look for ways to use it to her advantage.
But of the two of them, Boxer is way more of the loner. Her presence is all he needs to keep his mind from racing in this weird place, conversation or not. So if someone ends up needing to break the silence? It won't be him.]
[ She would never admit to using the information to her advantage. ]
[ But that's what she did. That's what she always did. ]
[ But she's stopped, and she's not walking with him anymore. If he's going to keep walking, she's not going with him. She's stopping here and letting him go. ]
[He keeps going for a little bit, before realizing that she's not just hanging back, but stopping completely. He stops and turns around to look at her, observe her posture.
Bah. It would be so easy to leave her behind, especially with the nonsense she's been babbling. But he can imagine Red giving him a stern finger-wagging for leaving her alone in the middle of the forest.
He sighs, lifting up a hand and giving her a "come on" gesture with his fingers.]
[ She folds her arms, choosing to stay put and stare at him as he beckons her to join him. ]
We are finished. [ She states it simply, as if there is no room for argument. ] And you desire my presence less than I desire yours.
[ Also pay no mind to the fact that she's settling her arachnid body down onto the ground, taking up a permanent position that she can't be forced out of. Just try it, Boxer, she isn't gonna budge. ]
[...why does he suddenly feel like he's dealing with a child?]
Making it sound like we started walking together because we wanted to hang out. We're trying to get out of here, remember?
Unless, of course, [he spreads out his arms to gesture to their immediate vicinity.] you think this is the kind of place you want to sleep tonight. Hey, I ain't gonna judge.
[ She glances around the immediate area, at the trees, and the memory of the childlike voices comes to her mind. This isn't at all the kind of place she wants to stay for any period of time, and yet being with him is even less appealing. ]
[ So yes, he is dealing with a child. Stubbornness manifesting in a very childish way. ]
I can get out of here without you. [ ...that's a lie, but she says it with a straight face to not give away how much of a lie that actually is. ]

If you intend to stab me in the back or run, go ahead and do it. Otherwise walk where I can see you. [ Hesitating for a moment... ] Please.
no subject
Don't have anything to stab you with. [But:] Fine.
[He decides to reconcile and walk by her side.]
no subject
Better. [ Continuing to walk, deciding to try to scar him further. ] She's changed, too.
continuity? in my tdm?
I saw.
[His response is totally neutral, as if it were the most inconsequential thing in the world.]
unacceptable, totally unacceptable wow
You're going to change too. You'll be horrible. [ A glance. ] Worse than you are now.

Yeeaaah...
[He looks over at her. Since he sees the world out of a single giant lense, it's almost impossible to tell exactly what he's looking at.
Spoilers: it's her spidery bits.]
...wouldn't count on it.

You fell in love with her. Why. How?
no subject
But, seriously, it's weird to answer the question how did you fall in love with her coming from someone who is obviously infatuated.]
I've known her for years, Sybil. Before she was even considering going to Traverson.
[That's right. Boxer is the ultimate Red hipster. He liked her before she was popular!]
Can't remember a part of my life where we weren't together.
