Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[It takes Hiro a moment to figure out where that voice is coming from, and once he pinpoints it all he can do is stare. He's... not sure what he's looking at. It doesn't look quite human, and yet there's definitely human intelligence in that face. But those legs... The feathers... Are those wings??
Those aren't prosthetics. Hiro knows a good prosthetic when he sees one. What this guy has, though... They look like they're real. Which is more baffling than it is frightening, despite how wide Hiro's eyes are and how far open his mouth has dropped. He can't process this.
Even if those words and that tone are meant to be reassuring, Hiro takes several steps back, keeping his eyes locked on the... whoever is talking to him.] ...Who are you?
[ Roxas wouldn't blame him for being wary of his words, no matter how reassuring. Roxas is just going to stay where he is, for now. If anything, harpy eyesight's given him good enough view to even notice fright on a human face. That's enough even to make Roxas wince a little into himself. He's not supposed to be scary looking, but he can't help it. ]
I'm Roxas. [ At least he'll give Hiro a name. ] Did they pick you up out of the water too?
[ So he was right. They're still picking up newbies. Roxas doesn't want to alarm him, but how long should he keep the truth from him? Would it have been better if Roxas knew what was going to happen when he first arrived? He isn't sure. ]
Yeah. A lot of people come in like that. [ "A lot" meaning "all of the monsters." He's not going to mention himself just yet. ]
The woods might not be the best place for someone new to go into. [ Roxas raises his head to look off into the fog of the woods and then it's back to Hiro. He speaks carefully. ] You don't have to say yes, but I can see everything better from up here. I can try and guide you out. [ And keep a lookout for anything that might be coming, so long as he and Hiro don't get separated. ]
[Hiro's uncertain of the offer, to say the least. He chews on the inside of his cheek for a moment, eyeing the wings sprouting out of Roxas's back. Trusting a total stranger doesn't seem like such a good idea, really. And Hiro hasn't had much luck in the Good Idea department over the last day or so.
He takes another step back and, deciding that the distance between them has grown enough, starts to turn away.] I'd rather find my own way, if it's all the same to you.
[ His eyes blink downward, disappointed by the answer though he gives Hiro a nod. Roxas isn't going to stop him, let alone blame him for wanting to get away at all—but before he does, he has to ask: ]
You at least have something to fight with if you need it?
[That comment is enough to have Hiro pause, turning to look back over at Roxas with an eyebrow raised.]
Seriously? What other kind of-- [He hesitates before saying "things" or "monsters". He's not really sure if he should call them that if this guy is one of them.] --people am I gonna end up finding out here?
[ Roxas is the worst at this. He's just going to freak Hiro out even more if he gets into specifics, but he deserves to be told the truth, doesn't he? Roxas looks back to him, eyes narrowed as if giving the answer is painful for him somehow. ]
I mean... There's no guarantee something will happen. It's just that when I first got here, they sent us into the woods too, to look for some missing people. I got separated from my best friend. Nothing attacked me, but I felt safer if I had something since I was alone. It was easier to get food if I needed it too.
[ He didn't say that there wasn't anything(/anyone) else that might show up, but-!! ]
[Hiro's frown deepens as he glances down at his empty hands. He's never been the type to do much fighting himself. That's why he had his fighter bots and Baymax with his upgraded power suit. He's more the brains of the operation, not the brawn. So he's not entirely sure what to do with knowing that he may need to fight something, or... Wow, kill his own food.]
I don't have anything. I've just got- me. [He shrugs one shoulder carelessly.] And I work better on my own, anyway.
[Hiro frowns up at Roxas and his guard comes right back up, body tense and shoulders squaring. For a second he remembers his team - his so-called friends - and how everything seemed so much better when he wasn't alone. And then he remembers how everyone betrayed him, and he feels a little flare of anger.] We'll see.
[He pauses to consider the offer, the look in his eyes switching from mildly irritated to just plain skeptical.] That'd depend on what it is.
[ Already, Hiro seems disinterested. Roxas may have hit a raw nerve. Despite that, Roxas slowly moves, drawing a small, sheathed dagger from his back pocket. Its pouch is solid, with its handle worn and wrapped in a leather strand. Roxas holds it by the sheath for Hiro to see. ]
This. I got it from one of the villagers. I don't need it anymore.

[Focus. Try to keep focus.] If that's what you call it when you wake up in a strange hospital in a strange city, then- Yeah.

No offense, but... that might not be the best way to think if you just got here. [ Just a thought. ] At least when you get out of the forest.
I can give you something, but you're probably not gonna take it, right?
