Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[Usually, people call him for older. It's the hair, probably. But still, if he gets a coin out of it---]
AAh! [Yeah, that's him straight up jumping when he sees the skeleton who tossed the coin in. Call it nerves, if you want, because sure he ran into strange things back home, but not. Y'know. Something that just got tossed out of a science class. But it's okay. It's okay, he can handle this, what kinda lord of all he surveys is he gonna be if he gets spooked because of some skeleton, come on now.]
Looks like I got me a big fish, huh? [Jokes make everything easier. Yep. They sure do.] I'd watch out for birds if I were you, friend.
[The tendrils curving out of Stocke's spine pause in their slow, back and forth weaving when Gideon yelps. He'd forgotten, for a moment, that his appearance isn't exactly the kind of thing people normally encounter. At least before arriving here. Then they resume moving - Gideon's reaction isn't nearly as violent as some he's gotten from natives, after all.]
[Stocke glides what would be a few steps closer if he were on foot, the pointed tips of his legs trailing across the ground intangibly. He stops a few meters away from Gideon, tilting his head to the side.]
That your prediction for me? [Dryly amused, but with an odd, staticy crackle to his voice. In fairness: he doesn't look like he has a mouth, so even this much is impressive, right?]
[ohgod keep those tendrils away from him. He doesn't step off the box or anything, but he keeps eying them, making sure they don't try to grab him or haul him off or something. And he's never had to read tone from a skeleton before, so he doesn't know if that's disappointment with the fortune he's hearing. Oh god what's the refund policy here? Is he gonna get eaten if he botches? That's a thing that can happen, right?]
I'd keep an eye on the weather, too. Rain's not lookin' good for you! [See, this one rhymes. Everyone knows rhymes are more legit.]
Birds and rain. I'll be on guard. [Stocke is very glad he can't grin in this form, the corner of his mouth would be twitching up and that would just ruin it. Birds and rain have got to be the least of his worries...]
[(Then again, you never know. There are harpies, after all.)]
[Some of the natives who've been attracted to Gideon's speech are also watching Stocke's tendrils nervously, a few starting to edge away - the brightest part of the blank-white glow in Stocke's eyes flicks toward them, and he circles Gideon's box a quarter-turn. Far enough that they're mollified, and hopefully he's still within Gideon's sights. But maybe he should speed this up a bit, before he scares off potential business.] ...and do you have any predictions for yourself?
[He's gotta think about it for a second, complete with exaggerated humming. Eventually, though, he comes up with this:]
Sure feels like a change is gonna come. [And if he's looking a bit too closely at Mr. Skeleton, well, that's his business. He grins, though, feeling the crowd's energy getting a little too jagged and a little too quiet.] But I'd like to think I can handle it. How 'bout you?
[He's got a few ideas. This crowd ain't a bad way to start, either.]
[Well, he's not wrong. If, you know. Very carefully vague. The amused slant to Stocke's eyes tapers off into something more solemn.]
I've managed to keep up so far.
...you may want to take a look at the pamphlets people have been giving out. Some of them might... [He pauses for the shortest of moments, just long enough for another quick glance at the crowd, and amends whatever he was about to say to -] ...help clarify the details of your visions.
[Might be why he wanted the crowd in the first place, honestly. Can't tell him nothing too seriously, if everybody else is gonna hear it. Make folks meet him on his terms, and well, suddenly they're much easier to take. He's getting his mojo back, anyhow, so instead of backing away or yelping again, he's gonna take the hint and keep right on going.]
Oh, these old things? [There's not exactly a shortage, is there.] I'll be thumbing through them, soon as I can. [If he hasn't already. And who knows, he might've.] But the inner eye could always use a little more fine tuning, that's what I always say. [He has never said that before in his life.
[Stocke inclines his head in a nod. He adds a cryptic -] Watch out for other monsters. [- then turns to glide off, tendrils swishing once as if to emphasize the movement.]
[New arrivals aren't safe, after all, until they begin to transform. Maybe not even then.]
[With the absence of creepy floating skeletons, Gideon's crowd filters closer - some just to watch, an interesting diversion, but a few others are starting to clamor for their own fortune. They'll have an interesting little story to tell later along with it.]
