TEST DRIVE, MARCH ROUND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • The reserve date has been announced.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Nisha scoffs, shrugging off the idea with the brief pull of a grin; all the crazy stuff she's seen in her life means that aside from the initial shock of expectation versus reality, he's not going to have to deal with any additional gawking on her part. Heckling maybe-- depends on her mood and how long she'll wind up sticking around-- but it's something at least.]

Trying to get answers out of the locals that doesn't involve any heavy reading's like pulling teeth. Considering you just threw yours out, I figured you might be able to fill me in.

Oh.

[It's quite the disheartened oh he gives as he turns his head to (presumably) look at the bin he pitched the reading material in. Did that stuff really count as "heavy reading"?

...maybe she's illiterate?

He turns back to her.
]

They're only worth more questions than answers. How we got here is either this place's best-kept secret or they're just as clueless.

[At least, that's what he figures she wants to know.]

'maybe she's illiterate' good god I laughed

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-02 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Clueless sounds about right. [Her eyes follow him as his attention drops; if the obvious pause bothers her it certainly doesn't show, given that her expression stays relatively passive. It's not a clear promise there's no going back the way they came in (however they came in) but it's not exactly hopeful news. Couple it with the rest of the obvious and well...

If you can't beat 'em.
] Been here long, hotshot? Hard to tell with all the uh, everything there.

n_ll: (Ping())

YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-02 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure. A day? A couple hours? This is the first time I've held onto consciousness for more than half an hour since everything went black.

[He feels bad that he can only give her wishy-washy answers, but what can you do...]

hey, it's not a bad guess all things considered

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-02 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[This time she pulls a face for it, all deadpan and two shades of clearly disappointed:] Really?

[No explanations, no follow up-- that's it, that's all she's got. Just a lot of judging going on right now.]

n_ll: (Breach())

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-02 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[He sure could do with a brow to arch at her response right now.]

Was that not the answer you were looking for?

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-02 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Things to buy: a marker to draw an eyebrow on self with.]

All that metal upstairs and you can't just power through it? [Call her spoiled - when your bff is a cyborg that talks about upgrading to eyeballs that shoot lasers on the regular, it tends to skew the expectations a bit.

Also she's an asshole, so there's that.
]

n_ll: (Flood())

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-02 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [Really? That's what she was focused on? Alrighty.]

It's the other way around. This thing has a lot more control over me than I do over it.

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-02 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[She's not exactly a big picture person at the best of times. Life on Pandora's pretty immediate, and Nisha's interests have always swung close to the killing department. Part of the survival process back home.] Sounds rough. [Don't let the general comment fool you: there's no sympathy under that observation. Not in the usual sense, anyway.]

Guessing it wasn't a voluntary deal.

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-02 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Funny you should mention killing.]

Not unless you consider getting murdered to be voluntary.

[Hey-o! But forreal, he's not looking for sympathy, just as much as his tone is without woe for his situation. The afterlife, where he comes from, ain't half bad, as long as you like rural pastures. And it's not really the afterlife? Maybe? Who knows.]

Things weren't always like this. Guess things got lost in translation on the way here.

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-02 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. [Her posture shifts at that. Something small and slight, weight rocked back onto her heels as her chin tilts down to one side. Tech back home does a lot of things for the people that can afford it, Helios is a testament to that and despite a childhood spent in the dust and rot that is Pandora, she knows firsthand what it can do. What money can do, more specifically, since it all translates to the same thing at the end of the day.

But dying? Coming back from that? Shit, that's beyond anything the R&D department's ever managed to pull off.

Those gold eyes flick down, back up again, all fresh consideration for him-- for everything, really. And this time she's got nothing to say. Nothing worth saying.

[Hey, that look seems like emotional progress, at least.]

Could've been worse. I mean...

[He looks down and holds out a hand, clenching and unclenching a fist.]

...I have what is mostly my body!

[Ever the optimist. With a smirk:] Even if it means that I have no control over my consciousness.

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-03 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever you say, handsome. [His problem, not hers, after all; if the guy's happy with the hand he's been dealt then he's welcome to it - god knows Wilhelm spent enough time cooing over how much metal he was planning on surgically shoving under his skin to keep his own mobility intact. At this point Nisha's more likely to applaud someone else's adaptability instead of wrestling with her own preferences.

Or she would be if feelings were her deal. As it stands, the lightswitch of one topic's flicked off where her curiosity ends in favor of something more her style.
] You get in much killing back home before someone decided to pick you off?
n_ll: (Breach())

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Seriously, that's all the response he gets for digging at himself? He deflates slightly. Man, this chick must be a riot at parties.

He visibly recoils at her question, scowling.
]

Wasn't a hobby that seemed appealing.

[Which is to say: none. At all.]
Edited 2015-03-03 05:02 (UTC)

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-03 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Depends on your definition of a riot.

Still, his response + that visible recoil makes her laugh. All teeth and sharp angles as her fingertips find their way to the empty holster at her hip. It's not the first time she's crossed paths with someone that functions without violence but damn, there's no getting used to the mental image of it.

Probably because she doesn't exactly have one.
] Lucky you.

[Any place that classifies killing as a hobby instead of a necessity must be real nice. Or real boring. Maybe both.] Still, if the punchline around here isn't all bullshit you're gonna want to change that point of view real fast.

[Hey, now, he never said that he didn't participate in violence, just that he never killed anyone.

That laugh does not rub off on him well. This is not a topic that should be laughed about.
]

I won't have to.

[Honestly, he'd rather not spend this much time thinking about what everyone is telling him is inevitable, but since she brought up the elephant in the room...]

Even if I had to kill someone, I don't have to enjoy it.

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-03 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[He's actually serious. Her eyebrows lift; she's busy blinking away the unexpected alternative that isn't all black and white. Besides the fact that killing without enjoying it is just-- sad. Sure, you can suck down nutrient-powder for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the sake of getting eating done, but where's the fun in it? Might as well sign your life away right there and then.]

You're serious.

n_ll: (Breach())

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-03 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

Everyone is important to someone else, even the...nobodies. There was a certain lot back home that treated the lives of others as a means for their own selfish goals. I'm not about to become like them.

If I have to kill, it will have to be in the name of survival. Nothing less.

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-03 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Survival's usually the bottom line, champ. Useless killing makes you no better than bandits, that's for damn sure. [Meaning that in spite of any and all differences on that front they agree. Sure, she'd tried the whole bandit deal back when she was a kid with fresh scars. Most people did. Only difference was she gave it up for mercenary work - clearing out the corrupt trash that liked to call itself the local government, bandit lords that thought being the law meant tormenting the townsfolk, wound up saving a planet. That sort of thing.]

Doesn't mean you can't have a little fun makin' the bad guys pay in the meantime. Crime's everywhere - even here.

Sorry, can't see myself enjoying it. Even if they "deserve"...

[He pauses, distracted by her other point.]

You think the people here are dumb enough to give us a good reason to off them?

[A tramp like him, making his living in the dark corners of an otherwise bright and bustling city, isn't going to deny that any established town is going to be devoid of crime. But there are tiers of crime, after all, and a big difference between petty theft and holding someone at gunpoint.]

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-04 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. [Could she sound any more confident? Chances are probably not, tongue briefly pressed to the tip of an eye tooth, attention flicking away from him to the locals milling about with fixed stares.

She's not even thinking when she reaches up to scratch the itch that's prickling away at her cheek, feels the tacky draw of warm blood as she realizes it was one of the still-raw scratches from their unpleasant arrival. All it earns is a quick pause spent wiping it away via rubbing a few fingers together, ruddy smudge on her cheek still stuck where it'd been left off.
] Even if these people don't meet the criteria, one of us might. Power's got a way of screwing with heads; someone's gotta keep it all in check.

Keep decent, innocent folk safe where it counts.

n_ll: (Bounce())

[personal profile] n_ll 2015-03-04 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Huh.

[Well, when you put it like that...

Sure, he's a fighter, though he keeps the thrill of the brawl to himself--and there was always the safety net of, you know, not actually having to end someone's life. But back then, it was all good "clean" fun, all about the sport and burning off testosterone, not a matter of life or death or keeping innocent people safe.
]

Never fancied myself as a vigilante, but it's a sentiment I can support.

[He tilts his head to the side, as if to get a better look at the smear on her face.]

Still there. Want something for that?

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Nisha cracks a smile, almost laughs though it doesn't really live past the initial scoff of genuine, innocuous amusement. Thinks he's joking for all a half-second before it sinks in again like some glaring cultural distance between them. It's so strange. Weird and bizarre and so entirely foreign that she watches him before bothering to respond, fingers still curled in midair.] If you've got a hypo on you I won't say no.

Er...no.

[The hesitation makes it clear that he has no idea what she means by hypno. Indeed, there's a huge cultural boundary between the two of them, as well as almost anyone else that washes up on the coast. It's a wonder they can even communicate with each other--or the locals, for that matter.]

Be right back.

[He takes off to fetch a bottle of isopropyl and a stack of gauze, a quick and effortless endeavor when everyone here is quick to please. He dampens one of the sheets of gauze and hands it to her.]

Might sting a little.

[...just in case she's not familiar with this stuff.]

[personal profile] frenzoned 2015-03-04 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Judging by the clueless, moderately confused look he returns to find at the bottle et all in his hands, she's not. Not directly, anyway.

Not that any injuries less than losing a few fingers or a torso or all your internal organs are usually a first aid deal back home to begin with. Still, she's clearly entertained enough by the idea to play along: stands there patiently watching him while he wets the gauze and passes it off.

Holds it against her cheek without flinching or sucking in even the slightest breath, waiting for some indeterminate amount of time or a cue or...
]

How long's this stuff supposed to take to work?

[Doesn't feel healed through the cotton; maybe she's doing it wrong.]
