Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[ Mabel is a little less comforted by the creepy forest. She probably shouldn't be so worried, honestly. Since her changes started, Mabel has had an easier time finding her way through wooded areas. The trees, instead of looking like a jumbled mess, all look strangely unique, like she can tell them apart from one another. She's wandered a little further than she meant to, though, and the dark is starting to creep up on her, making the trees harder to see. Did she just pass that one, or...
The creepy giggle makes her jump, and she looks around just in time to spot Wirt. She doesn't recognize him, but his getup is uncomfortably familiar, and her normally friendly expression immediately drops to something mildly concerned and maybe just a bit distrustful. He's taller than the gnomes back home, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. ] Don't even think about asking me to marry you, the answer is still no.
[Wirt spins to face Mabel, immediately struck speechless. Where had this come from? Where had she come from? Was he expected to ask? Was this some weird local custom? Maybe he should have read those pamphlets after all.]
Married? What? Why would I want to marry you?
[Well, maybe not speechless. He pauses instantly, reevaluating his words.]
I mean-- that's not-- uh. I'm... I'm sure you're a very lovely person! Just... uh. Heh. How about these woods, huh?
[ Wow, rude. Mabel isn't really sure if she should be offended or relieved. So she just goes with relieved. This guy looks kind of like the nervous, sweaty type. Like he's embarrassed by everything he says and does, or something. ]
Oh, it's just that the gnomes back home really wanted to make me their queen. Talk about awkward.
[ She gives him a good-natured smile, though, since marriage proposals aren't happening. ]
Oh, this. It's not... it's a costume. Not that I was... trying to be a gnome...
[Wirt trails off, giving her an awkward smile as he adjusts his hat. Sure, she seems a little weird, but he has to admit he's relieved to see someone. He hadn't seen a soul since entering the woods. What would have become of him had they not crossed paths? Would he have been doomed to wander endlessly, never again to find rest or peace?]
Are you lost, too? I thought I could tell where I was going, but... I think I was wrong.
It's a costume? [ Thank god. Him not actually being a gnome is probably the best news ever. Really, this whole situation is getting better and better! Though, she doesn't get how his outfit is supposed to be anything other than a gnome, and so she kind of squints at him, trying to see the other costume possibilities.
She sees none. Which can only mean one thing; ] Oooh, you must be an artsy type guy! I am, too, you know. Yeah, you're looking at an arts and crafts master!
[ But she's getting ahead of herself. They can talk more about this stuff once they get out of the forest. ]
Oh, but--yeah, I guess. I wasn't lost earlier, but it's too dark to tell the trees apart, now.
[Wirt scratches the back of his neck, a little self-conscious but clearly pleased.]
I don't know if I'd say artsy...
[Though what is an artist, but a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world? To find the beauty in things so often overlooked. The canopy of leaves, intertwined like so many brush strokes on a painter's canvas. The sweet trill of bird song, as if coming from the soul of the forest itself. The-- okay, the laughter is still creepy. He wraps his cape a little tighter around himself, a nervous gesture.]
Anyway, I... I'm not exactly from around here. Maybe we could just go back the way you came from. You did come from the town, right?
