Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[He jumps at the voice, pamphlets scattering to the ground. "Hair Here, Hair There, Hair Everywhere"? What he'd mistaken for helpfulness was clearly some kind of juvenile hazing ritual. A small consolation that he'd left before giving them the reaction they were clearly seeking.
He gives her a nervous smile, stooping to pick up the papers strewn across the pavement.]
Not everyone. Just those of us who aren't from around here. [A sigh. If there's an easy way to break the news to someone, no one's told her yet.]
They're trying to help but they're not all that good at it. For some reason they're immune to... whatever the heck happened. [She gestures vaguely, unhelpfully. Wirt looks too darn jumpy for her to be straight with him.] So the info they have is second hand.
[Wirt looks back up at Julie, considering her words. "Just like the rest of them," they'd said. Like fishing people out of the water was as commonplace as catching the fish themselves.]
One of the others who washed up? Yep. But I got here weeks ago aaand was unfortunate enough to show up in a city not as nice as this one. [It had cults and weird technology phobic farmers. She makes a face at the memory.]
So take it from me. Even if it sounds weird and totally impossible? It's probably not a joke.
[He takes a second to rub his eyes, looking around once they open again. It feels real. The breeze blowing softly through his hair. The gentle heat of the afternoon sun. He can even smell the sea on the air -- salt, seaweed, and wet wood. He feels like if he just closed his eyes, he could imagine himself down by the water, John Keats his only companion...
Suddenly, he pauses, going over their short conversation in his head.]
Wait? What did you mean, immune? That they're immune. No one said anything about some kind of sickness. And what would that have to do with...
[He looks down at the pamphlets again, clearly unsure.]
So there's a Fog God, and some kind of, uh. Infection that only hits people from other places that show up here. [She gestures, vaguely. This is already sounding kind of nuts.]
Did you listen when I told you about the weird and impossible thing? You're gonna have to just go with this. [If she's going to go to the trouble of trying to explain turning into a monster the least he can do is keep an open mind.]
Otherwise when it happens the first time you're going to be less prepared than you want to be.

I-I am. I mean-- uh. They do this to everyone?

I don't think I understand.

Look, you're gonna go through some... changes.

Changes. Right. Okay, well, thanks for your time.

Okay, then. What weird and impossible thing do I need to be prepared for?
