Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[For someone who was pulled out of the sea and treated by aliens at a hospital, Terezi seems to be taking her situation completely in stride. The human doctors seemed to be a bit reluctant around her, even when she gave them her widest grin that showed off all of her prickly sharp teeth. How rude! Sadly, being rude was not against the law in any society she knew of, so sadly she would have to refrain from doling out justice.
When she was released from the hospital, she was eager to take in the smells and tastes of her new surroundings. The town was distinctly human, but with all sorts of interesting sensory delights mixed in. For one, there were fishy odors that reminded her of Feferi and Eridan, and the distinct smell of felines that she knew would make Nepeta happy if she were here.
She's curious about how much the stench of blood seems to permeate the area though. Did this town have a high crime rate? The type of crime that involved violence and murder and mystery and intrigue? If so, what were the local authorities doing about it? Were they just terrible at their job? This was something to ponder for another time.
Because a human just handed her a pamphlet and it now occupies her entire attention.
All passersby were now treated to the sight of an alien girl licking the various pamphlets.]
Hmm, yes, I understand! Very interesting!

[Terezi was drawn to the forests. She had lived in the middle of one back on Alternia and she figured if she was stuck in this land without so much as a single gate to travel into to get out, she was going to make herself comfortable. She was going to find the biggest goddamn tree there was and make the coolest, sweetest treehive there was. It was gonna be so cool and so sweet that Dave Strider would shed a tear upon seeing it. That's how cool and sweet it was going to be.
Unfortunately, she was having trouble finding the biggest goddamn tree in the forest. She was having trouble finding anything. Her face was one of genuine confusion. Smell had never led her wrong before, so why was she seemingly going in circles?
The giggling echoing around the forest provided a vital clue to solving the mystery]
Does this have something to do with you, mysterious ghost human wrigglers!?
[Considering that he's already fully changed, he's going to stick out scent-wise; he's got a lot of metal scales, has gone part dragon, a tendency to breathe fire (and otherwise light things on fire), and has been out hunting, even if it's more often deer than otherwise. Also he's still dealing with cleaning out an old abandoned house, so it's going to be a while before dust and cobwebs aren't part of it.]
[He's also entirely unsure what to make of licking the pamphlets.]
[Not very accurate? Someone was leaving her false evidence? What a shame. Terezi wrinkles her nose in disgust and crumples the pamphlet she was "reading" before tossing it over her shoulder.]
Does this mean there's no such thing as fuzzy fish? How disappointing! This place is going to be boring!
[She looks downtrodden for a moment before an idea comes to her. She perks right back up, grinning.]
UNLESS... the truth is even better! Mister Blueberry Bubblegum! You must tell me!
[She's just beaten out Jetstorm's nickname of "Sunshine" there with that one.]
I haven't seen any in any of the rivers or lakes here; half the things in the pamphlets are something the locals made up, and they don't even bother with most of what we have turned into.
[Please have noticed the pervasive theme of people turning into monsters, strange not-human lady.]
[His first thought is that he's covered in scales, has wings and claws, and is standing in the middle of a bunch of humans, how could someone miss that it was true from that?]
[And then there's an implication that sinks in. And promptly skitters off to ponder how the Hell someone could read by taste, a train of thought that is promptly abandoned as nonsensical, useless, and not worth thinking about too hard.]
...You're blind.
[he's keeping as level and careful a tone as he can on that one, even if he is blunt as a bag of hammers. There's metallic claw-clicks as he walks over to something more within arm's reach.]
It's true. Starts about a month after you show up - I've been here six months now.
[This girl stands out even more than the average transplant. In fact, she looks like she could be a transplant who's already begun her transformation, but her...behavior with the pamphlets indicates otherwise. Maybe. It's difficult to tell.]
I'm afraid those aren't going to tell you much. [Especially if you use them like that.]
So you're saying these are wrong? But they have told me such wonderful things!
[She gives the particular pamphlet she's reading a lick.]
It says that there's a thing called Axe Thief Axebarkbeasts! Those sound really cool. But if it's not accurate, then this pamphlet is guilty of being untruthful!
[She waves the saliva slobbered piece of paper around.]
It is sentenced to a cruel death befitting for a lying parchment!
[Terezi rips the pamphlet in two, cackling madly.]
[Edgeworth flinches when he feels wet droplets hit his exposed skin. Truly, this is one of those 'how is this my life?' moments.]
It isn't so much lying as it was written by someone who was misinformed on their subject. None of the pamphlets are penned by the people who have actually gone through these transformations. They're getting their information solely from observation and hearsay.
[Still under the assumption that people are in costume, Trucy doesn't find the girl's appearance unusual. She is, however, intensely curious about her behavior! She glances down at her own array of pamphlets.]
[Did she just lick it? She did, didn't she? Terezi cackles in amusement. Did she cut her tongue? Because if she did, Terezi would find that even more hilarious.]
It only works if you have a sense of taste as good as mine! You should just read it using your eyes, Miss Blue Raspberry Snocone. After all, I can't!
[Terezi's odd appearance doesn't ruffle Shulk. One of the representative sentient races of Bionis is pure animal after all. Though, the Nopon are certainly more of the cuddly variety than this girl. Her behavior is just as eccentric and intriguing however, and Shulk regards the pamphlets in his hands curiously, almost as if he's considering licking them himself. A cursory swipe of his thumb over the raised ink tells him they're average printed paper unfortunately, and he shakes his head. He does wonder if there's some sort of mechanism in her tongue that lets her glean meaning from the ink. Somehow. maybe she's just weird.]
Do you understand what these articles are trying to tell us?
[Shulk turns his head away from the smudged, sticky paper which just ends up smearing on his cheek and ear instead. Thanks, strange girl.]
Agh-! I-I see it! It's...[well, it's a very wobbly blob of ink that could be a gargoyle] Super cool.
[He moves away from the slobbery leaflets a little, scrubbing at his face with his sleeve. ]
I'm not sure I like any of this. They don't really say why or how these transformations happen. [And then there's the bit about eating people. It was very prominent in fact and --- he blinks at the nickname.] It's Shulk, by the way.
[Shulk. Shulk. It sounds a little bit like chalk. Terezi wishes she had some right now. Maybe she could figure out more if she could write. And draw all over things. The buildings here are so drab. Mostly just browns and greys. They could use some color.]
I'm Terezi. I don't know where this is, but it smells and tastes so interesting! I've never been around so many of you humans before, this is exciting!
[If Shulk could read minds he'd agree with that sentiment. The atmosphere here is dull and oppressive, like the weight of some great tragedy is bearing down on it. But it sounds like he has an ally now, and that makes it a little better. He nods, smiling.]
It's nice to meet you, Terezi. If only the circumstances were different.
[His smile fades as he presses a hand to his chin.]
Though, if you're not from here, and have never met a Homs before then...Where are you from?

Really? Taste can be a pretty hard sense to understand.
[Rin has seen a lot of blind kids in her time at Yamaku Academy, but never quite one that looks like this. Which is a big part of why she doesn't immediately make the connection with Terezi - she just sees a weird kid licking stuff.
Sure, the grey skin and horns are weird, but she's seen lots of weird stuff in her admittedly very brief time in this city. The licking stuff, though? That's what keeps Rin's attention.]
[Oh? What a strange human. Most people, human or troll, react with disbelief and mild disgust whenever they see her using her tongue to sense the world around her. This one seems to be just curious.
And that makes Terezi curious about her.]
This one says that trolls can grow to the size of a mountain!
[She licks it again to continue reading.]
And... that if you make one mad, they'll destroy your hive by making it sink into the ground!
[She frowns.]
That's totally wrong, by the way. We can't make ourselves grow like that. The hive thing, though, I'm sure someone has done that sometime.
[Rin pauses, considering the facts presented before her.]
...I guess there's no reason you can't be both.
[That's in reference to the grey skin, red eyes, and horns, for the record. The licking stuff seems both entirely legit and also really fascinating to Rin who is, in fact, a bit of an oddball herself.]
We're all weirdos, though not all of us are willing to admit it.
[Terezi knows she's weird and she doesn't care. True, while she may be one of the more outlandish ones, everyone she knows is weird in some way. Troll, human, it doesn't matter.]
Rarely does a day go by in which a troll does not endure or launch an attack of a personal nature on someone. It is in our very natures. It is the instinct of a troll to troll, although some trolls I know are very bad at it.
[Rin nods sagely. She definitely agrees with this stranger about weirdness.
The stuff about trolls sort of loses her, though.]
Huh. I wish I could say that humans human all the time, but most of the humans I know don't actually do that.
[Not that she's actually sure what 'human' means when converted into verb-form, but it's probably not something that her friends or acquaintances do very often.]
