Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[ Yeah, forests aren't really Hans' thing either. He lives in Bavan for a reason, and that reason tends to be running water and throngs of people. As much as he learned the basics of hunting (he is a prince, after all,) he's as lost as Hiro is. Which is unfortunate, because as far as monstery things go, Hans hasn't gotten any powers, just red eyes and a weakness to silver.
So yeah, he's looking for a way out when he hears the giggling too. And another voice-- one that sounds far less sinister than the first. ]
Easy, I'm not here to hurt you.[ Hans steps out of the brush and approaches with his arms raised, noticing... oh, it's just a kid. Damn, where's your parental guardian, small child? ]
[If he had a weapon, he would've raised it in the air by now. But once he sees that the other man doesn't exactly look like he's out to hurt anyone. Especially not... out in the middle of a random forest. In fact, he's... offering to help? Hiro frowns a little, an eyebrow raising.]
[He relaxes a little. It's reassuring to not be alone in a dark forest, but that doesn't change the fact that they're both still lost. He turns around reluctantly (this guy won't vanish if he looks away, right?), just to cast around their surroundings.]
Yeah, but- Which way? I thought I found a couple of landmarks, but everything's starting to just. Look exactly the same.
[He runs a hand back through his hair before turning to face Hans again.] Oh, uh- I'm Hiro, by the way.
If there's spirits behind this, we could probably run in circles for a while and never get anywhere. But the ones I've seen tend to be kind of... violent, so maybe they're just playing around?
[ Wishful thinking, wishful thinking... Hans has had to adapt to the idea of spirits and monsters pretty, well, forcibly. ]
Nice to meet you, Hiro. I'm Hans. I'm sorry we're not meeting under more favorable circumstances.
[An eyebrow automatically arches upward. He couldn't look any more skeptical of that statement if he tried. Sure, Hans had suggested the woods being haunted, but Hiro hadn't thought that he'd seriously meant it literally.]
Spirits, huh? So you buy into what all those pamphlets say? [Hiro looks around them again, like he's hoping to spot someone who doesn't sound like he's got a foot in the door to Crazy Town.]
[That's one way to really get Hiro's attention. He immediately whirls around to face Hans again, eyes wide.]
Whoa, what? [He kind of cranes his neck a little, like he wants to see where the bite is, but then he catches himself and decides that's probably a bad idea. He takes one small step back, just so he'll keep to himself.] So-- You're saying it's true. That it's all... totally true.
A fairy?? [First this man admits to being a vampire, and now he's talking about how he also could've turned into a fairy?? Hiro shakes his head, running a hand back through his mess of hair, doing his best to think more logically.
Hans doesn't have to mention the turning into food part. He can guess, considering there'd been a pamphlet about "Alternatives to Human Flesh." Which leads Hiro to taking yet another step backward.] If you're a vampire, then- then why're you offering to help me?
[If that's even what's going on here. For all Hiro knows, this could just as well be a trap.]
That's really comforting. [The sarcasm is oozing out of every word. It goes perfectly with his frown.
He takes another, smaller, step backward. Hiro really doesn't want to end up being someone's meal. Not here, not now, not ever.] Oh yeah? By "this", do you mean the wandering aimlessly in the woods or the vampire thing?
[He frowns, studying Hans's face like there'll be an answer written there. On the one hand, he did admit to being - or becoming - a vampire before actually doing anything vampire-ish. On the other... Well. Vampire.]
[Hiro frowns, brow furrowing. He has no idea what a kelpie is, and that's kind of annoying. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he wonders if any of the creatures of legend that he grew up learning about would be a Thing here.]
Sooo... People here just. Spontaneously turn into monsters.

My name is Hans. Are you lost, too?
no subject
Yeah... You, too?

[ Hans gestures around them. The trees, he means. Though the giggling could start up again at any time. ]
It wouldn't surprise me if this forest was haunted. We should move.

[ Listen up, kid, Hans is acting all nice and polite but he's like :| on the inside. ]
I have two bitemarks on my neck and red eyes-- trust me, after a month here, you'll have trouble not believing it.

[ He's being comforting! Well, but also the look on this kid's face is kinda priceless. But no no, definitely trying to let him down slow here. ]
Yes, I'm sorry. All of these things are very true, let me tell you. You have to be careful or else... well, it could be bad.
[ Hans has some decency. He won't tell Hiro he could become someone's food. ]

[ Because that's so reassuring. But hey, Hans needs help getting out of here, same as you, kid. ]
I'm just as lost as you-- it's not like I chose this.
[ Though that's a pretty good idea, posing as a human and then drinking someone's blood. Good plan. ]

Everyone changes here. Not into ghosts, but... other things, you know?
no subject
..Like what? Besides vampires and fairies?

[ There's only so much lore you can get from trying not to die for a month here. Hans hasn't super had the chance to settle down. ]
no subject
Sooo... People here just. Spontaneously turn into monsters.

[ Hans shrugs. It's not paradise, that's for sure. ]
Maybe we should get back to trying to get out of this forest?
no subject
... You're not gonna try to bite me or anything, right.
no subject
[ Who wouldn't trust this face, right? Right?? ]
no subject
Just- do me a favor and walk in front of me, then.
no subject
[ SO SUSPICIOUS, CHILD. Hans is gonna have to work on his angle if people stop trusting him just cause he's a vampire :T ]
So, this way?
no subject
Yeah, I guess so. You were trying to get back to the city too, right?
no subject
Yeah. I don't normally take this road-- for obvious reasons, now that I know it goes through a haunted forest.
no subject
So what were you doing here in the first place?
no subject
[ POUT. ]
I don't see why I owe you an explanation.
