TDM: AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of unpleasant taste and texture. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping; it's coarse and rough. The air is slightly humid, thick and heavy, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. Your muscles ache with exhaustion. How did you get here? You don't remember.

There are lights in the distance, a city twinkling reassuringly on the horizon. Perhaps there is help there. Perhaps someone can tell you where you are, and how you got there. Perhaps, if you stumble to your feet, clothes heavy with seawater, and stagger in that direction, you might find clues to just what is going on.

Or, perhaps, you might walk directly into one of the many bear traps that are scattered around this beach, hidden beneath sand and seaweed, waiting for an unwary monster-to-be. Not everyone in this peninsula wants you in their home.

SCENARIO TWO

You've stumbled your way into a city, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your lost expression and your clothes- so different from their own- and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.

But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. A hefty laptop may be handed to you, with words of a ‘network’ used for communication. Wonder what that’s about? Then there’s the very confusing pamphlet stuffed within: "What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)”. They may direct you to an organisation known as the Lighthouse, their members most prominently found at the 38-8 apartments and the Lighthouse Church. Or perhaps, if you're injured, they'll refer you to the Crowe Clinic instead. Unfortunately, the directions you're given are so very complicated that you lose your way in the streets after two left turns, a right and a left at the soup kitchen.

Take care when asking for more help. There are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

Now that you've found a moment of peace, you open up the mysterious device that's been handed to you. Perhaps you'll recognize it as some sort of laptop, albeit an old and clunky one. Or perhaps you'll be astounded by this curious feat of technology, which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Regardless, the moment the lid is propped open to reveal the screen and the keyboard within, you gain your first glimpse of the network.

Perhaps you'll want to choose a username and write your very first message, posing the pressing question that's on your mind at this very moment. The lettered buttons click and clack awkwardly beneath your fingertips as you type.

However, you may instead want to respond to today's most popular message.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[The Beach]

[Well this is new. First she's being congratulated for her work with Orange Star (which she cares about only a little bit) and now she's on some beach like a miserable soldier peon for some reason.

As she walks forward, she notices the trap somewhat easily. There's enough change in structure for her to notice it - she's always been a terrain expert, after all.]

Ha! Amateurs. Who thinks they could really trick someone like me using just traps? Even a simple branch can take care of this...well if I had one anyway.

[She eyes the rest of the beach, moving a little more slowly. Maybe someone can help her.]

[SCENARIO TWO]
[Well it's weird. The taste of freedom, that is, after knowing she's probably some sort of political prisoner, even if she, Duh! sort of helped save the world or something.

This place wasn't her home, it didn't take a genius like her to even know that. She was more than ready to completely mooch of the free stuff and nearly laughed herself out when she was handed the computer. Like what? What? That thing's ancient! Someone might notice her as she's already busy trying to take it apart and figure out its schematics.]

[SCENARIO THREE]
Wow! Are we like dealing with completely granny technology? This computer is probably older than Von Bolt himself! It's practically on life support, tee hee hee!

[Yes, she wrote out Tee hee hee.]

So are we really stuck here in like, forever? Cause that sounds interesting! I don't really care much about my old world anyway now that the people I actually cared for (only a little!) are gone. So tell me the cool things! The science things! Does this place have an army? How big of a place are we talking about about anyway? I feel like I only hear the names of a few cities. IT can't be that super tiny, can it?

It would seem that the technology here is extremely dated, yes.

The operating system is a variant on MS-DOS, last used in 2000. However, this place has automatons, suggesting that their hardware and software is capable of better.

[I'm Not Mad, Just Disappointed.]

Laaaame.

[Laaaame.]

Wow, like I don't know what MS-DOS is but that sounds super old! But you're staying there's robots? Maybe they just run on crystal energy or something. Or maybe these computers are just forced old technology because it 'works well'. See, that happened sometimes in the army! It was super-duper lame tho.

Maybe I should check out the robots. Are they sentient OR just some sort of dumb soldier butlers?

There are human arrivals that have been transformed into 'simulacra' and therefore logically should understand how to program a more efficient machine. There are also, I have been told, guard androids in some of the shopping centers. However, I am new as well, and don't know the manufacture of those machines. It is an area that I am interested in learning more about.

[Connor will have a nervous breakdown like an under-stimulated herding dog if it can't find a group to run in circles around and bark at.]
derwunderkind: (Gadgets!)

Sorry the notifs are working

[personal profile] derwunderkind 2023-08-31 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, so turning into a machine would make your better to program them? Jugger was more of a brute with power than anything else. That's like saying being a human makes you able to program better humans! ...which I guess some people can, tee hee hee.

Wow, what are guard androids guarding? That sounds like fun.
assignedcopatbirth: (Every pair of pants and)

oh that explains a lot actually i was wondering why it was so quiet 8| i need to go check my threads

[personal profile] assignedcopatbirth 2023-09-01 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I have found in my few days as a human that being a human allows me to process human language more naturalistically.

[Connor said, like a huge stilted nerd robot]

As a machine, Python was more naturalistic a language, and it was easy to find flaws in it.

The androids at the mall are guarding the merchandise and property there.

I understand that the place you come has artificial intelligence also?
daswunderkind: (Thinking)

On phone pretend it is still text

[personal profile] daswunderkind 2023-09-01 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wait you're a robot? Neat!

[Unfortunatly Lash finding someone neat us not always cool.]

Sort of? Like we had lots of drones made by yours truely, but Jugger was pretty lame and sometimes I suspected it was just someone inside a real ugly robot suit.
assignedcopatbirth: (Contains a horror story)

lol will do

[personal profile] assignedcopatbirth 2023-09-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I am an android, a specific kind of robot. I can tell you the exact difference, if you want.

[You can tell that Connor is going to transition to using he/him pronouns at some point by the way that it loves to explain shit to people that know way way more than Connor does.]

You created "Jugger"? I assume the name comes from "juggernaut."

[personal profile] daswunderkind 2023-09-01 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Lol probably was for Juggernaut.

Me? Make Jugger? Nah, he was waaaaay too lame for me to come up with. You know when something speaks up with beeps and boops like you'd waste precious programming time to have them say beep and boop when you could have a death ray on his head?

That lame.

But... I did want to make a robot eventually. What's an android?

[personal profile] assignedcopatbirth 2023-09-01 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Naturalistic speech programming is very difficult.

An android is a robot that specifically resembles a human being. Non-humanoid robots can take any shape, including those of single limbs, vehicles, rovers, or tools.

Is your specialty in military robotics?
