TDM: AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!
SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of unpleasant taste and texture. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping; it's coarse and rough. The air is slightly humid, thick and heavy, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. Your muscles ache with exhaustion. How did you get here? You don't remember.
There are lights in the distance, a city twinkling reassuringly on the horizon. Perhaps there is help there. Perhaps someone can tell you where you are, and how you got there. Perhaps, if you stumble to your feet, clothes heavy with seawater, and stagger in that direction, you might find clues to just what is going on.
Or, perhaps, you might walk directly into one of the many bear traps that are scattered around this beach, hidden beneath sand and seaweed, waiting for an unwary monster-to-be. Not everyone in this peninsula wants you in their home.
SCENARIO TWO
You've stumbled your way into a city, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your lost expression and your clothes- so different from their own- and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.
But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. A hefty laptop may be handed to you, with words of a ‘network’ used for communication. Wonder what that’s about? Then there’s the very confusing pamphlet stuffed within: "What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)”. They may direct you to an organisation known as the Lighthouse, their members most prominently found at the 38-8 apartments and the Lighthouse Church. Or perhaps, if you're injured, they'll refer you to the Crowe Clinic instead. Unfortunately, the directions you're given are so very complicated that you lose your way in the streets after two left turns, a right and a left at the soup kitchen.
Take care when asking for more help. There are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO THREE
Now that you've found a moment of peace, you open up the mysterious device that's been handed to you. Perhaps you'll recognize it as some sort of laptop, albeit an old and clunky one. Or perhaps you'll be astounded by this curious feat of technology, which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Regardless, the moment the lid is propped open to reveal the screen and the keyboard within, you gain your first glimpse of the network.
Perhaps you'll want to choose a username and write your very first message, posing the pressing question that's on your mind at this very moment. The lettered buttons click and clack awkwardly beneath your fingertips as you type.
However, you may instead want to respond to today's most popular message.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
Britta Perry | Community
[Britta somehow makes it from the beach to the city of Bavan, her hair damp and matted, and sand sticking to her skin. The cuts and grazes burn and bite, and she barely manages to avoid the bear traps littering the beach. She steps out onto the sidewalk, runs a hand through her hair, and stares at the passing cars, the buildings.]
What the... hell happened last night? [She blinks; she could have sworn she fell asleep at the computer last night, writing her part of an assignment due that morning. So how did she wind up here? A human jogs up to her, grins, and eagerly hands her a bright, yellow pamphlet.]
Oh! H-Hey! [She calls out but the human is already dashing around the corner, clearly on a mission to hand out pamphlets to select people only. Britta notes that the stranger ignored everyone else, and zeroed in on her.]
....Weird. [Britta says under her breath, and looks down at the pamphlet in her hands.] What monster will you become? Do this quiz and find out. [Britta reads the pamphlet out aloud, the words printed in bold, black print. She scoffs, scrunches it up into a ball, and immediately drops it into a nearby trash can.]
Yeah, okay. I am throwing that away. In the trash, because I care about the environment.
TWO
[And soon, Britta discovers that monsters are an actual thing. She is in a city called Bavan, brought here by a Fog God who wants to use her to fight her stupid war, and soon she will become a monster herself.
And this is not okay!
Onlookers will see Britta standing in the middle of the park with a protest sign in her hand. She stands on a small podium, and because she doesn't have a megaphone, she's yelling into a rolled-up newspaper instead.]
The Fog God has brought people here without their consent, people! She turns them into monsters without their consent! We need to fight back against this abuse! Oppression!
[Most people are staring at her, whispering and raising their eyebrows but she has managed to convince a couple of humans to stand with her; they march back and forth with protest signs raised in the air.]
Don't be a cog in this monstrous machine! Rise up against the Fog! [She turns to a wooden stand that she's set up. On it is a... weirdly oversized cotton ball with a sign in front of it that says "The Fog." One of Britta's fellow protestors throws an egg at it and misses but that's okay! They just pull another egg out of their coat (?!) and they try again!]
The people against the Fog! Because the Fog's against the people! [Britta starts chanting. She has no idea what she might be attracting with this... display.]
no subject
He'll have to open up dialogue himself, then. Not with protest, but an attempt to get the ball rolling even further. He takes a few steps forward to approach the main speaker.]
Hello. [He pulls his right hand out of his jacket and holds it up in greeting for a second.] Quick question. When you say 'fight back', what's that mean, exactly?
no subject
Uh. More protests! Spray paint! Freeing humans from whatever terrible places monsters like to keep them!
[She says, like she knows what she's talking about. Truth be told, she hasn't thought much beyond protesting and graffiti, and the idea of facing off against a monster is... terrifying.]
We have to make as much noise as we can!
no subject
He shrugs his shoulders, tilting his head lightly to the side.]
You think noise and spray paint is going to get an actual god to change her mind?
no subject
Maybe it won't, but at least... I'm trying to do something. [She says, lowering her makeshift megaphone and her sign. Somehow, she manages to sound both determined and discouraged.]
We can't be complacent, and sit back, and let this... Fog woman win! I won't be a bystander.
no subject
Oh. I get it. So what happens one month from now, when your first changes start kicking in? Will you keep the rally going then?
no subject
Sure! Yeah! [She says with a determined little nod, shuffling her feet.]
Monsters need to speak for the powerless, and the oppressed! The humans are probably too scared to speak for themselves!
two
Maybe she has an actual plan that's just not on display here? Kiriko has no idea, she walks over, avoiding the egg toss just narrowly.]
Digging the signs and energy here, but, I really have to ask- aren't you going to turn into a monster too?
no subject
And that makes this protest all the more important. Monsters have a responsibility to show the Fog that this isn't okay. Monsters must use their voices, because the humans can't!
[She pauses for a moment.]
Or... Well, they can, but it's way more dangerous for them!
no subject
[Kiriko has to wonder how someone can set up a protest like this, but absolutely not plan something beyond that.] Pretty sure by now other people have told the fog 'hey, stop it' and it doesn't done much.
no subject
[She purses her lips together, shuffles her feet and crosses her arms. Britta can feel her insecurities bubbling up; she already knows she's not going to be able to actually do anything, but she still wants to show the world that she gives a shit. She wants people to look at her and see how great she is for Trying. For attempting to use her voice to say no to the Fog.]
Have you done anything to help the humans?
no subject
Two
[Is Phil going to wander into some random protest and join it and start chanting along with people? Yes, yes he is.
Does he actually have strong feelings against the Fog? Not at the moment.
Is he even sure what the Fog is at this point? Debatable.]
The Fog's not cool like a dog! Protect the endangered frogs!
[He starts clapping his hands because it just seems like the thing to do?]
no subject
Don't bow to the Fog God! Don't let her ensnare you in her chains of cloud! Fight back!
