Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
Don't wander off in the fog if you don't have a good idea what's going to be around, keep aware of your surroundings, and if someone already changed is acting off, keep distance until you're sure they're not berserk or hunting. It's a month.
Shooting your mouth off treating everyone like the enemy might tempt someone into considering it when they hadn't been.
There are hunters and hikers that, this far out, are miles away from any witnesses or people that would disturb making a meal of them. Vandare is small, close-knit, and jumpy.
[You are so lucky he comes out this way for DEER and PELTS and SCOUTING and does his human-hunting in Bavan backstreets.]
[For a moment, the second question gets the stare of Think About What You Just Asked.]
What would you be doing if you'd been here a few months, knowing what I'd told you and that every couple months more would wash up?
[Kain raised an eyebrow.] You mean the townsfolk of Vandare scrambling like headless chickens. It'll die down in a few days, and they'll just about throw food and supplies at you in the hopes you'll remember them later.
[And not eat them.]
They overestimate how much one of us needs to eat and how often, and how many of the new arrivals are more likely to starve until they berserk than go hunting on their own. Bavan's friendlier as long as you stay off the back streets.
[He is getting this funny feeling that, no matter what advice he gives, turning his back on this one is going to mean the kid being liable to get his head ripped off.]
[He opens his mouth, sighs, and prods the roasting meat.]
I spent a little over a month in and out of the towns, with a spear carved out of a walking stick, hunting game and getting money for things I needed by selling pelts and hides.
[He can't argue with an allergy to taking charity.]
[There's some of his own instincts and conscience he's cursing here, and some changes in his own situation from the last time he'd run across a teenager trying to camp out in the woods and floundering; he isn't living out of hotel rooms and camp sites anymore.]
You want to help with finding ways to fight the Fog God, right?
[Well, it's a thing he's been thinking about; either he's going to bite the bullet and make this a second chance or he's going to keep waffling, and he hates the idea of waffling.]
I've only got a small place now, but I've been looking into arrangements to get something a bit bigger in the next week or so - there's others that are going to need a place to stay or half a clue how to adjust when they change, and we're better off if at least some of us are cooperating than scattering to be picked off.
[And he's absolutely not starting to get worn down by living on his own.]
I turn into a statue in daylight when the fog isn't out. Depending on a few other factors, I'm going to need people that don't have that problem.
It may come to include some more than that. [He gives the meat a prod, using a claw to tug part of it open, paying utterly no attention to the heat from the fire.] There's going to be others that need a place to stay, and no one of us will be able to track down what we need and take on the Fog God alone.
[And it's honestly better to make sure the common threats and common enemy, as well as "there's going to be others around", are reinforced early on; the last thing he needs is the kid going territorial on him.]
[There goes the posturing again; he's fairly sure Valgaav has either forgotten that he's in the weaker position, or is choosing to ignore it.]
Well for one, there's going to be others that need a place to stay; I'd prefer we have an understanding that territorial snits are a good way for all of us to get killed stupidly right from the start.
That any other new arrivals or others I bring there that are struggling after getting dumped here will be an expected part of the deal, not something taken as a challenge or a threat.
[Because he will pin you if he catches you picking on someone else he brings in, and he's NOT above taking some lessons from his father on How To Rein In Arrogant Jackass Teenagers.]
[Kain leaned on one hand, a clawtip tapping on the metal plating along his cheekbone, one eyebrow raised.]
Do you really expect me to have a 'no infighting' rule that magically only applies to one person but not others when there are Gods out to get all of us.
[There's a glower at that. Along with some unspoken commentary about how this little peaceful home he's aspiring to build is not going to work.
And really, the fact that he's glowering probably does say something about the fact that he was expecting it to apply only to him - not that he'd actually admit to that, of course.]
[it's not much of a shift, but Kain straightens slightly, some of the sharper-edged plates puffing out just barely enough to punctuate the shift in posture.]
You do realize that there's nothing to tell if the other god would even give half a fuck about you if you did align with it, not counting the limits on what he can or can't do.
Are you expecting to go kick the Fog God in the shins by yourself and have it work?
[The glower means that commentary doesn't need to be out loud, really.]
Make no mistake, I could use your help, for the same reason I'm offering. None of us can take on the Fog God by ourselves. I've already made a mistake like that once, and I'm not going to repeat it. [He motions to his left shoulder, and the massive, almost sharkbite-looking scar that rings it.]
Are you going to accept that, or is that too much for your pride to handle?
[Kain can see that dominance challenge coming sooner or later; part of him would really rather get it out of the way sooner rather than later, but he's damn well aware that if he pushes it he's just going to get bitten and have the kid roaring off getting killed. Or doing damage and THEN getting killed.]
[So he just accepts that, inclining his head at the meat and pulling another part of it open with a claw; he's realizing now that he hasn't...really been COOKING meat since he first changed, and is getting more and more aware of that problem where red shades have all been muddled together looking the same; and while he has some sense of touch for heat, he's still learning gauging what temperature things are by touch when he doesn't have the normal "that kind of hurts" warning range or "that burns" and is starting to suspect he could go bathing in lava.]
[...Well, if the kid's a dragon, it's probably good enough.]
[He pulls the makeshift spit down, using claws and a carving knife pulled out of his bag to strip a piece off and hold it over towards Valgaav.]
Honestly, there's more than enough time; whatever turns people around out here is worse at night - it'd be better to camp until morning.
[He reaches out and accepts the offered meat, taking a bite out of the slice and chewing it thoroughly before swallowing.]
I would almost think it easier to navigate out of these woods by the air.
[There's a very slight smirk on his lips as he continues to eat. It's a bold move, really, but it hinges entirely on 'you need me around, right?', and it's a gamble he's willing to take.
..Even if he doesn't usually like relying on other people. It would be more embarrassing if he'd gotten lost in the woods again tomorrow when he tried to leave and Kain had to come and rescue him AGAIN.]

[By which he means worse. But you probably already knew that.]

[Well, at least he's not running his mouth anymore! ...For now at least. Watch how long this lasts.]
That said, what's stopping you from deciding to shut me up?
[No really that's a serious question. HE'S REALLY NOT GOOD AT NOT TREATING MOST OF EVERYONE LIKE AN ENEMY. ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN ESSENTIALLY 'BLIND'.]

The attitude that came along with it, however, was pitying.
[He meets Kain's gaze with an expression of complete seriousness.]
I don't want to be pitied.

Unless, you would rather we lay everything on the table right now?
