TDM: FEBRUARY/MARCH

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

(CW: hospitals, environmental horror)

You awaken with a harsh shiver, goosebumps prickling your skin. Perhaps you've found yourself in a bath tub filled with ice. Perhaps you're lying in a walk-in freezer. Perhaps it's just a plain bed with no blankets- how fiendish! Regardless of where you awoke, cold seems to be the order of the day. Even outside the ice baths and freezers, the air temperature is more than a little frigid in here. Being dressed in no more than a short blue gown with an exposed back certainly doesn't help.

Venturing beyond whatever orderly, almost sterile room you awoke in, you find yourself in the hall of what appears to be a hospital ward. When you watch the walls with enough rapt attention, you may note that they appear to be pulsating, almost as if they are breathing. Despite its normal appearance, the floor feels oddly springy beneath your step. Where are the doctors and nurses, you may ask? They're nowhere to be seen. By all means, explore the other rooms and take whatever jello cups you can find. It's free real estate!

Don't get too comfortable, though. It's entirely possible that the staff vacated these halls for a reason. As you approach the ward's exit, you find a message haphazardly scrawled across the pair of doors. "Don't monster, open inside"...? That doesn't make any sense, now does it? What could be beyond? Or who?

SCENARIO TWO

You've stumbled your way into a city, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your lost expression and your clothes- so different from their own- and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.

But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. A hefty laptop may be handed to you, with words of a ‘network’ used for communication. Wonder what that’s about? Then there’s the very confusing pamphlet stuffed within: "What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)”. They may direct you to an organisation known as the Lighthouse, their members most prominently found at the 38-8 apartments and the Lighthouse Church. Or perhaps, if you're injured, they'll refer you to the Crowe Clinic instead. Unfortunately, the directions you're given are so very complicated that you lose your way in the streets after two left turns, a right and a left at the soup kitchen.

Take care when asking for more help. There are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

Now that you've found a moment of peace, you open up the mysterious device that's been handed to you. Perhaps you'll recognize it as some sort of laptop, albeit an old and clunky one. Or perhaps you'll be astounded by this curious feat of technology, which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Regardless, the moment the lid is propped open to reveal the screen and the keyboard within, you gain your first glimpse of the network.

Perhaps you'll want to choose a username and write your very first message, posing the pressing question that's on your mind at this very moment. The lettered buttons click and clack awkwardly beneath your fingertips as you type.

However, you may instead want to respond to today's most popular message.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

With luck, perhaps it shall. Without, I at least know my way around a few rough nights.

[Mint nods in return, his own smile practiced and bright. He'll do his best to commit the name to memory, but goodness, how does anyone here remember names that aren't linked to an ingredient or other intrinsic nature of their owner...?]

Mint Choco Cookie, at your service, and the pleasure is mine. Actually, if you don't mind me asking... are you a local, perchance, or have you found yourself brought here inexplicably as well?

outdated Victorian terminology in emotes

[Childermass hears and interprets this as Minshako Kuki, which is a very odd name, possibly Oriental? So he doesn't really think much of it beyond a moment's hesitation]

Living rough's a good thing t' know how to do, even if no one ever really likes doin' it.

[he nods in agreement, having had his fair share of those times, himself. at Mint Choco's question, he shakes his head]

No, I'm an Englishman - Yorkshire, to put a finer point on it. I woke up in some odd sort of hospital. Best guess is that something dragged me through the King's Roads while I was asleep, but I haven't figured out who or why, yet. Got a theory, but those aren't much good 'less you can put them into practice or prove 'em.
twinmint: (Shall I play you a piece...?)

Indeed. I'm hardly thrilled to return to those days, myself, but if the situation demands it there's little I can do.

[Mint is internally somewhat glad this man is either unfazed by his name or chooses not to address it. Though he's only spoken with a few people since arriving, having to explain the cookie thing or find a way to deflect the topic altogether has been exhausting.

He considers this story carefully, tapping a finger to his chin. So wherever Childermass is from, it's not so different from here that being merely relocated sounds unlikely. Which Mint certainly can't say about his own home...]

I see. I may have awoken in the same hospital, I believe, though clearly our paths did not cross before I made my escape. Unfortunately, I cannot say with such confidence that this is even my world - far too much is different, myself included. And I do not recognize the places you speak of.

[Childermass nods in assent with Mint's first statement, listening patiently and intently to the rest with a keen, calculating fire to his gaze.]

That doesn' surprise me, honestly. There are an untold number of different realms, all connected by what I know's the King's Roads. You may know them as somethin' else, or maybe not have known about them a'tall. Someone or somethin' with a lot've magic has brought us here ... but I am not certain if it was the same person or thing for both've us.
