TDM: FEBRUARY/MARCH

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

(CW: hospitals, environmental horror)

You awaken with a harsh shiver, goosebumps prickling your skin. Perhaps you've found yourself in a bath tub filled with ice. Perhaps you're lying in a walk-in freezer. Perhaps it's just a plain bed with no blankets- how fiendish! Regardless of where you awoke, cold seems to be the order of the day. Even outside the ice baths and freezers, the air temperature is more than a little frigid in here. Being dressed in no more than a short blue gown with an exposed back certainly doesn't help.

Venturing beyond whatever orderly, almost sterile room you awoke in, you find yourself in the hall of what appears to be a hospital ward. When you watch the walls with enough rapt attention, you may note that they appear to be pulsating, almost as if they are breathing. Despite its normal appearance, the floor feels oddly springy beneath your step. Where are the doctors and nurses, you may ask? They're nowhere to be seen. By all means, explore the other rooms and take whatever jello cups you can find. It's free real estate!

Don't get too comfortable, though. It's entirely possible that the staff vacated these halls for a reason. As you approach the ward's exit, you find a message haphazardly scrawled across the pair of doors. "Don't monster, open inside"...? That doesn't make any sense, now does it? What could be beyond? Or who?

SCENARIO TWO

You've stumbled your way into a city, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your lost expression and your clothes- so different from their own- and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.

But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. A hefty laptop may be handed to you, with words of a ‘network’ used for communication. Wonder what that’s about? Then there’s the very confusing pamphlet stuffed within: "What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)”. They may direct you to an organisation known as the Lighthouse, their members most prominently found at the 38-8 apartments and the Lighthouse Church. Or perhaps, if you're injured, they'll refer you to the Crowe Clinic instead. Unfortunately, the directions you're given are so very complicated that you lose your way in the streets after two left turns, a right and a left at the soup kitchen.

Take care when asking for more help. There are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

Now that you've found a moment of peace, you open up the mysterious device that's been handed to you. Perhaps you'll recognize it as some sort of laptop, albeit an old and clunky one. Or perhaps you'll be astounded by this curious feat of technology, which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Regardless, the moment the lid is propped open to reveal the screen and the keyboard within, you gain your first glimpse of the network.

Perhaps you'll want to choose a username and write your very first message, posing the pressing question that's on your mind at this very moment. The lettered buttons click and clack awkwardly beneath your fingertips as you type.

However, you may instead want to respond to today's most popular message.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

It has been soon enough, fret not. I've not been here long.

[Mint has not, no, but...

He's putting things together in his head. The pamphlets about turning into monsters. The fact that he has become one of the "humans" who seem so prevalent here, but Sparkling has appeared to him changed so far beyond even that. The scar - no, scars he's realizing now, his eyes catching healed over tatters on the edge of the wing that swoops around him as he falls into step with his old friend.

"My bar." Sparkling is ever the entrepreneur, yes, but...]

...But you have, haven't you.

[His throat and voice feel dry both, a rough cracking around the edges of his words that's quite unusual for Mint. He's doing his best to at least put up a veneer of calmness as well - even expression, even breaths, even steps - and he certainly believes that Sparkling will explain and help as much as he's able. There's something in his eyes that betrays him as he looks back at Sparkling, however.

Mint doesn't know what any of this is, and it's so, so strange, and on some deep level... he is very much afraid.]

[Ah. Sparkling...hadn't planned on getting into the details just yet, for the sake of not overwhelming his friend. But if he's to ask him about it outright...

Well. He isn't going to lie.]

Yes. I have.

[He puts it simply for the time being, his gaze centered forward to ensure they're headed in the right direction. And after saying that, there's a pause until they reach the bus stop, another two minutes down the street. Not because Sparkling doesn't want to talk about it, but because he wants to make sure he explains everything carefully.]

There is a very strong force at play here...magic, if you will, that draws in individuals from places all over. Not just Earthbread, but other worlds entirely. Other universes. It's an immensely powerful magic that none of us truly understand, controlled by a being that calls herself the Fog God. As far as I understand it, I was the first to arrive from Earthbread...but I have not been the last.

[Mint knows the way Sparkling pauses here, that he's searching for words, and allows him the silence to do so. His face still falls when the words come, and his eyes search Sparkling's for a second, but find no lies - not that he expected any. Mint drops his gaze downward again with a soft exhale.]

That explains much and little all at once. She must be a truly powerful god.

[He has to take a moment to reorganize his thoughts before looking back up at his friend, trying to focus on the parts of him that are still very much Sparkling instead of the ones that make his heart twist. He knows exactly how much Sparkling values his looks.]

I, I must confess, I do not recall anything amiss back home before arriving here. I had seen you just a few days ago, and was planning to visit your bar this very evening. No one had gone missing that I was aware. How can that be? Dare I ask who else is here?

[A beat, and then he manages a small, sad smile.]

No, I best ask. If you were the first and have a place of your own here, I expect you've extended your infamous hospitality to them, after all.

[Yeah, this place...has not been kind to him in that regard. It doesn't help that Sparkling can't even see himself, so he doesn't truly know how bad it is. If it's very bad...then nobody has ever really told him, which is perhaps both a kindness and a curse.

To hear that nothing bad is going on back home- or at least worse than the norm- is an immense relief. It was the same with Vampire, if he recalls...and things are a bit different with Caviar and Pure Vanilla due to their unique circumstances, but Mint? Sparkling knows for certain that Mint would be coming from his own home.

To hear that he'd just seen him mere days ago gives Sparkling a strange, disorientated sense that he wasn't expecting. Was it...really him? Or a version of himself from a past time?

It's hard to think about.]

As I mentioned, the magic here is very strong...so strong that it can pluck us from our worlds while those still living in them are none the wiser.

[He looks ahead as the bus stop looms into view.]

Vampire Cookie arrived a few months after I did, and stayed with me a few months after...before going back to Earthbread.

[He refuses to consider the fact he didn't, and went to the Sea of Stars instead.]

At the moment...Captain Caviar Cookie of the Vanilla Republic, as well as Pure Vanilla Cookie, are here with me.
