TDM: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

(CW: Human remains)

When you awaken, you are hit with an immediate feeling of motion. A bobbing, if you will, or perhaps more of a rocking. You take a deep breath through your nose and take note of salt, along with the pungent scent of rotting wood. Creaking sounds echo all around you. Sitting up, you find yourself locking eyes with a skull.

An entire human skeleton is positioned across from you, resting limply against a pillar. Surveying the rest of your surroundings, you soon realize that you're below deck on an old, dilapidated ship. A ship that's on the move. The crew must have suffered a terrible fate, strewn as they all are across the floor. With their ripped poofy shirts, sheathed cutlasses and jaunty feathered hats, they seem to scream one word at you. "Pirates". ...Ooh, is that an abandoned bottle of rum? And a treasure chest? Surely they won't mind if you help yourself. They're dead, after all!

Once you've ascended the creaky steps, you find yourself on the deck of this vast, once proud vessel. A tattered Jolly Roger flaps overhead. Thick fog obscures most of the ocean surrounding you, but what's that straight ahead? Land ho! The ship's about to make port, and a crowd of curious onlookers has already gathered on the docks to stare up at this spooky new arrival. They appear apprehensive, perhaps even fearful, as if they haven't seen a ship come in for a long time. Will they hold you accountable for what happened to the skeleton crew? Will they praise you for 'ridding' them of pirates and allow you to keep the booty? There's no way to know just yet. Perhaps you'd best hide and find a way to disembark without being seen. Or perhaps there's someone else to be found here on this ship who suffered the same fate; someone who has a better idea of what to do.

SCENARIO TWO

You've stumbled your way into a city, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your lost expression and your clothes- so different from their own- and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.

But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. A hefty laptop may be handed to you, with words of a ‘network’ used for communication. Wonder what that’s about? Then there’s the very confusing pamphlet stuffed within: "What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)”. They may direct you to an organisation known as the Lighthouse, their members most prominently found at the 38-8 apartments and the Lighthouse Church. Or perhaps, if you're injured, they'll refer you to the Crowe Clinic instead. Unfortunately, the directions you're given are so very complicated that you lose your way in the streets after two left turns, a right and a left at the soup kitchen.

Take care when asking for more help. There are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

Now that you've found a moment of peace, you open up the mysterious device that's been handed to you. Perhaps you'll recognize it as some sort of laptop, albeit an old and clunky one. Or perhaps you'll be astounded by this curious feat of technology, which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Regardless, the moment the lid is propped open to reveal the screen and the keyboard within, you gain your first glimpse of the network.

Perhaps you'll want to choose a username and write your very first message, posing the pressing question that's on your mind at this very moment. The lettered buttons click and clack awkwardly beneath your fingertips as you type.

However, you may instead want to respond to today's most popular message.

WELCOME TO RSDOS.
PRESS F1 TO COMPOSE POST.

*** TODAY’S TOP POST ***

018.07.154.55 <JUSTSOMEGUY> Let's play Two Truths, One Lie! It's real easy! You just post three statements about yourself, and the rest of us have to guess the lie. It'll be fun! And you get to be a liar liar without your pants catching fire for a bit.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Ah, you were sent to a charitable organization, rather than offered immediate help. An all too common response!

[NO IDEA WHAT THE SOUP KITCHEN ACTUALLY GIVES OUT. NONE.

Either way...maybe it's not the best idea to set this girl loose on her own, either, since she thinks the strangest place Sherlock's seen yet is like home. He should probably see her into somebody's custody. But who?

Keep her talking.
]

You must come from someplace strange indeed. This shop is even less like where I come from than everything else!

[And, maybe he can gently ask...]

Where is home for you, miss....?

[He hopes this line of questioning doesn't upset her, or cause an unfortunate reaction. It's a risk, but one he's willing to take.]
meatatarian: (mmnope you're still not getting any)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I get the sentiment, but sheesh! A little direct help would be nice first!

[She puffs her cheeks out for a moment, folding her arms. She knows she's not the only new one here, and yeah, it makes sense to direct a large amount of people to the more helpful places if you're just one person, but she comes from a small town. She's not used to this... big city stuff. Big city ways of doing things. Especially not a big city that isn't anywhere even remotely close to Japan, culturally.]

Really? Honestly, I think just about everything here looks weird. It's all... old and gritty, like an old sci-fi movie from America or something.

[But, he seems nice enough. She doesn't get weird vibes off of him like Adachi. This guy genuinely seems interested in helping out.]

Oh, I'm Chie! Satonaka Chie. Home for me is in Japan! These types of convenience stores are everywhere, so it's not all that weird to me, but if you're not used to seeing them I guess it would be kind of strange. You can get just about anything, though! Lunch, magazines, event tickets, you can even pay bills and send packages! Kind of a one-stop shop.
detectivision: (with a record selection)

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-13 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Japan!

[...there's no point in doubting her assertion. Either she is from Japan -- and that might go some way toward explaining the contradictions about her, a healthy person with short hair and a young girl in good training -- or, it's a delusion. Either way, it's impossible to prove! So, he'll choose to go along with it for now, unless it becomes more relevant.]

Well, then. We're both a long way from home!

[Also, she thinks this place looks old...? To Sherlock's eyes, it's all new: all progress, long past the Industrial Revolution, like a Scandinavia of the future. But, she's given him her name. It's only polite to introduce himself in return. Unfolding one of his arms to make a gesture vaguely reminiscent of a tipped hat, though he's not got one on him at the moment:]

Sherlock Holmes, at your service.
meatatarian: (tl;dr is it lunch time yet?)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. A long, long way from home.

[Assuming this is where she thinks it is. Ryslig sounds like something from a fantasy movie, or maybe... what was it called? ICEA? One had opened up in Yokohama and she'd heard someone talking about it. Some Swedish store where everything has weird names.

AND SPEAKING OF WEIRD NAMES--]

... you're kidding, right?

[This went from zero to weird real fast. Is this guy nuts?]
detectivision: (on the floors of tokyo)

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-13 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[?!? That response is unusual. What's making her doubt his name? Prior familiarity? But she's from Japan, it's highly unlikely she knows of his family...]

No, of course not! Why would I be?
meatatarian: (wow such adult much mature)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[... HOO boy. Okay. So this guy is super nice, but he's either convinced that he's Sherlock Holmes, or his parents had a really bad sense of humor. Probably not the latter, or he would have explained away his name or something, right? Okay then. He's a nutcase, but at least he's not, like. Creepy-weird or anything. So far.]

Oh, n-no reason! No reason at all! Don't even worry about it. Something about it just sounded really familiar, that's all.

[It's not like she knows much anyway. Just little things here and there. Mostly the name, and that he's supposed to be some big bad detective. Which is kind of cool, she guesses. Yu's uncle is one, and if she's going to be a police officer someday, she's going to be working with them, right?]

cw...mental illness in meta

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-13 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[...she's lying.

She is really, really obviously lying.

Unfortunately...he doesn't have the right evidence on him to prove it, so the dialogue flag doesn't come up, and he can't call her out. Instead, Sherlock just looks at her sideways, like, I know you're not telling me everything, but I can't say anything yet.
]

Very well, then.

[THE DIALOGUE FLAG, HOW DOES HE GET IT, HOW DOES HE CALL HER OUT ON THIS? HOW DOES SATONAKA CHIE KNOW OF HIM? He'll have to do further investigation, and only approach again when he has proof. Maybe his brother has something to do with it. Or, maybe, her reaction isn't something she wants to talk about...it may have to do with any unwellness she might have, responding to internal stimuli. Besides, there's more immediate problems, aren't there? Where's his dialogue wheel...is there anything else he has to ask her?]

You do have a place to go, don't you?

[As in a place to stay? Safety? They're both new, and he's still sorting out his own situation, but if she's begging for loaner cash for food, then she might not be as on top of things. Especially if she's dealing with something mental, as well.]
meatatarian: (the service here really sucks)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, don't look at her like that! Look, she's trying to be nice! She's trying to avoid outright saying, "Wow, you're nuts for thinking you're a fictional character!" KINDNESS. IT IS HAPPENING. SHE IS TRYING.

For now! Let's not unpack anything! Let's just shove that suitcase under the bed for later. Time to move on!]

A place to go...? No, not yet. I think someone said something about apartments, but I don't plan on living here or anything. I just want to go back home.

[That, and she might have been distracted a little by the presence of a konbini. She does need to at least find something, though, doesn't she. Just until she can go back.]

What about you?
detectivision: (I'll be dancing with myself)

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-13 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shakes his head.]

Nothing yet. I was going to check the papers for advertisements, then make the rounds before the sun goes down, and hopefully find something suitable.

Unfortunately, as I said, I don't yet have any money...so, I'll need to find a situation where the rooms don't have to be paid for up front. Given time, I'm sure I'll be able to earn enough to book passage on a ship back home, and pay the debt to the landlord on my way out.

[They sailed in...so, they have to be able to sail back out, right?]

meatatarian: (fakers gonna fake fake fake fake fake)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... huh. I guess the newspaper would be a good place to start.

[Suddenly, she thinks back on all of those pamphlets she'd crammed in the trash can outside. Was there information in any of those? Someone said something about a lighthouse, too...

But wait.]

Hey, speaking of that. Do you remember getting on a boat at all? It's really weird, because back where I'm from, no one even sails boats like that anymore. And it was full of old dead pirate bodies, too...

[And the fog. God, she hates fog. She is never going to look at fog the same way again.]
detectivision: (Default)

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-13 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember getting on a boat, but assuredly not that one.

I'm presuming everybody on that vessel was abducted, most likely drugged. Everyone living, anyway. I...can't explain what happened to the pirates.

[No, he really can't. He tried to look them over, but between the seasickness and the decay, there wasn't anything specific he could determine. If he'd had someone with him with a background in autopsies or even medicine, perhaps he could have gotten further, but Sherlock's own knowledge -- and stomach -- proved to be insufficient.]
meatatarian: (Ugh! I've had it with you!)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-13 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't explain any of it! I don't even live near the sea. The closest thing I've ever seen to anything like that are the dumb funhouses at school festivals!

[Ship isn't even a real method of travel anymore, unless you're on a cruise. And even then, that's different. Cruise ships are a far cry from wooden pirate vessels.]

I just don't get it. Something about it isn't right. I don't like it.
detectivision: (and I'm dancing with myself)

[personal profile] detectivision 2022-09-14 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That is strange.

[She doesn't live close to the sea, or anywhere those kinds of ships sail...yet, she was on the boat with him. His presence could be explained by, oddly enough, pirates -- but they are a little after the Age of Sail. It's old-fashioned for him, too.

If only he could recall more details about the ship itself...
]

Once I've secured lodgings, I'd be very interested in examining what's left of the pirate ship. Now that it's docked, and presumably deserted, I should be able to take a look around without any --

[Seasickness. Bad memories. Old fears.]

-- interference.
meatatarian: (Moo Shu Beef)

[personal profile] meatatarian 2022-09-14 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Really strange.

[This guy really seems dedicated to the Sherlock Holmes bit, though, doesn't he? Investigating creepy old pirate ships... Though, admittedly, they'd all kind of jumped right in when people started disappearing and stuff. She probably doesn't really have much room to talk.

But! Still!]

... hey, I'm not super eager to climb back on board an old boat that's probably haunted or anything, but I've done some investigating back at home, too, and I want to get to the bottom of what's going on. Want a tag-along bodyguard? You can pay me in steak, if you want.
