NAME: Nichole CHARACTERS: Altair (OC) TELL US ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS: Altair is a shadow mage, one of eight mages that were chosen by a nameless goddess to receive the gift of magic. Magic is not from this world, it was created from humans' imagination. Their desire to have something waiting for them after death created a magical dimension connected to ours. Mages anchor that magic into the real world, in the process they are turned into beings of pure magical energy, wrapped in a human shell as a result.
Altair was the first and last commoner to ever be chosen as a mage. He was not accepted by the nobles that ruled over the common people due to their superior connection to magic and the harmful reputation the shadow mage already had was made worse by his status. The years he spent as an outsider among a vicious noble court because of a choice that was forced on him and the consequences of being a shadow mage have left him scarred. He is haunted by the dark choices he has made to protect his friends. He’s very secretive and distrusting, especially towards kindness. It’s safer to keep people away but he also desperately wants to be accepted so he ends up caring for more people than he should and he’s fiercely protective of the people that manage to see past the walls he puts up.
WHAT YOUR CHARACTER(S) WILL BE DOING: Altair is not going to be happy to be a troll again. His mind felt lighter as a slime since he couldn't really dwell on anything like he usually does. Now that he's a troll, he's back to his grumpy brooding self and he hates it. He liked that reckless, free side to him, even if he's horrified of how careless he was as a slime.
Altair will be distracting himself however he can by trying to go back to normal, working at Juno Steel's detective agency, helping with Loaves of Loves since Annie is gone, and trying not to go on a murderous rampage. I will also put up a new Peregrine network post up soon. Art is a healthier distraction then murder.
SCENARIOS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN: I will start with anything, because I'm open to anything and I enjoy throwing Altair into unexpected situations.
For specific scenarios:
- slime Altair consequences! As a slime Altair was able to be his rebellious, reckless old self again and he didn't hold back at all. Feel free to handwave him getting into fights, or stealing from your character since he's an art thief and he went on a huge thieving spree. He could slide under doors, how could he not have fun with that?
- Peregrine cr. I would love to do more with his secret artist persona. Whether that is as a customer, fellow artist, or if you're interested in uncovering his identity, run into "Simon" the disguise he uses when he's pretending to be Peregrine's assistant, etc. I'm open to anything. Fellow artists would be great too. Altair is more open when art is involved and I love playing with that softer side to him.
- on a darker note, negative cr and anyone interested in unburying Altair's past. Altair was a murderer before and he constantly struggles with that guilt. He is morbidly drawn to killers like him in a twisted desire for people to accept the monster he is, even if a part of him doesn't want anyone to. It is a dangerous pendulum he's stuck in. Lately he has swung to the side where he denies his darker self and I want to play with Altair swinging the darker way too. Him turning into a troll again is a good opportunity for that.
- more reluctant friends! My grumpy troll needs all the friends he can get. He's a bit difficult at first but he genuinely appreciates anyone that can put up with his thorny attitude enough to get to know what's underneath. He's a lot nicer when you get to know him, although he will never admit that and thinks he's a burden on his friends.
ANYTHING ELSE: Altair has an opt out on his journal and my tagging schedule tends to be inconsistent. I love writing but I suffer from chronic fatigue so I can be a bit of a snail sometimes, especially when I foolishly overdo it, usually with events. Thanks everyone for being patient with me.
I finally found the perfect picture to use for Altair!
Fun bit of lore: Shadow mages are tasked with protecting souls from the darkness by being a witness to their memories so they wouldn't be lost. Most people didn't understand shadow magic and over time their true purpose was lost under that fear. One of the misconceptions was that shadow mages could steal your soul. (also the form his soul takes is a black cat)
