TDM: JANUARY/FEBRUARY

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up in a dark ditch, the sky cloudy overhead. Dirt cakes into your cuts and scrapes. The air is clammy and damp, and it smells like rain.

You’re in a grave. And when you sit up to inspect the tombstone marking your spot, it has your name on it. Maybe the graves next to you have the names of familiar friends, family, acquaintances. Not all of them are open like yours are. RIP.

There’s a light dancing in the distance, and you hear the jingle-jangle of heavy keys, or worse still, the gravekeeper’s massive pitchfork or shovel. If you're lucky, you can sneak out beyond his notice, and get out alone. If not - you might find yourself on the wrong end of a shovel’s swing, or worse yet, tripping headfirst in front of a pair of monstrous eyes.

SCENARIO TWO

You've stumbled your way out of the graveyard, and you're promptly besieged by the overwhelming sights and sounds of the city. Cars honk at you to get out of the street, and strangers try not to look in your direction for too long. They see your dirty clothes and scraped faces, and pretend to busy themselves with something else. Rarely, a look of pity is cast your way.

But some people try to reach out. Enterprising citizens and those that hope to curry favor with the newcomers pass out new clothes and bundles of food, asking if you have a place to stay the night, wondering about the details of the world you came from. Some are even handing out pamphlets which vary in how helpful they are--"What To Expect When You're Expecting (To Turn Into A Monster)", "Wolpertinger: Fact or Fiction?", "100% ACCURATE MONSTER QUIZ ASSESSMENT: GUARANTEED TO PREDICT YOUR MONSTER!", and "Ryslig Law In A Nutshell".

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Does it fit you, or does it feel incongruous with your nature? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[He startles slightly when Osborn snaps his fingers, though it just seems like the man was excited. He certainly doesn't have the passion for technology that this guy seems to have, but Osborn's own enthusiasm seems to get the gears in his head turning.]

I guess with basic tools you could make them work together... but you're right, that doesn't really account for the materials, or if the power source would even be sufficient.

[He holds one hand up to his mouth, looking thoughtful.] You could try taking it apart, I guess. You sound like you're pretty good with machines.

I know a thing or two, yeah. [his grin and the little sparkle in his eyes suggests he's being facetiously humble. he's something of a techie himself] I'd need those tools, though. Shouldn't be too hard to find. But first, let's see if we can do something about your headache.

[he steps up to the curtain and pulls it aside, only to be confronted by the rows of seated humans in their strange headsets]

What-- some kind of ... virtual reality?

[no, Norman, that's DRV3, not 2. don't get ahead of yourself.]

Hm... [Surely finding the tools for that wouldn't be too hard... a place like this probably needed maintenance, so they must have been around somewhere, right? He's frankly more surprised that Osborn actually cared about the headache...

Of course, that train of thought stopped when he revealed the line of people just... sitting there. And he Hinata jumps in surprise. As far as he's concerned any simulation is a bad simulation.]

W-Whoa! What the hell...?!

[But they didn't seem to react, so... he just sort of awkwardly leans in closer, waving a hand near them to try and get their attention. Nothing.] Th-They seem... kind of out of it. Can that really just be virtual reality...?

I ... well? I'm not sure.

[he moves to another seat, leaving in for a closer look at the devices]

Whatever these are, they look far too primitive to be capable of putting people into a subliminal trance this deep. And they don't seem to be in pain.

[he pulls up one man's sleeve, checking the wrist, then presses two fingers to his carotid]

No IV, healthy pulse. No restraints. Whatever is going on here ... these people did it willingly. And they're all still human.

A-Any technology I know that can do that would require some kind of full body hook up...

[That probably doesn't matter, if they're just... sitting here. Willingly, it sounds like, though Hinata's absolutely not going to touch them, instead staring warily.]

Willingly...? Why the hell would they do that? They're basically just sitting ducks hidden in an arcade...!

Unless whoever talked them into doing this - for whatever reason - has also agreed to protect them.

[it's like a phantom limb, the urge to reach out and punch one of them to test his theory. just a fleeting, terrible thought instead of one immediately acted on, and the realization makes Norman sigh in relief. no, he reassures himself, I'm not going to do that. think, instead.]

There's got to be a central console somewhere ... even behind a hidden panel ...

Protect them...? But why hook them up in the first place...?

[Was it some kind of energy source thing, like that one movie? But it wasn't really an efficient way of harvesting energy... The entire situation left a bad feeling in his gut, if he were honest.]

R-Right-- a mainframe, something... [Something that could offer some explanation. He turns around, frantically searching their surroundings for some kind of console to check.] Ugh, it's not like it's laid out like a normal arcade...
