TDM: OCTOBER
Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!
SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.
There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.
SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.
Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.
Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.
SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
aaaa tysm ;///;
[This boy opposite him has a maturity beyond his years. It's almost intimidating, but not quite. It's kind of refreshing in an odd way, since Dipper's used to being the de facto 'mature one' at home.]
Yeah, aren't we all. I haven't been able to sleep - I don't think I'm supposed to sleep anymore, but that's almost worse. That just means there's, like, no stop. [And knowing his anxiety, he needs that stop. And now there just isn't one.]
...But thanks. I appreciate hearing that. [He beams a little. His companion is at least pretty nice, from what he can judge so far. Which is always a relief when dealing with another monster no matter where you are.]
Oh, I'm Dipper, by the way. It's nice to meet you.

Giorno, nice to meet you — you can't sleep?
[Someone wasn't paying attention to the pamphlets. But that sounds, ironically, like a total nightmare. Having just recently spent the better part of a week not having time to sleep, the idea of having to go through that forever is brutal.]
How does that work? The brain needs sleep to heal and stay functional. I'm not sure how even the changes that happen here could circumvent that. [Weird? Monster neurobiology is weird.]

I'm not sure how it works biology-wise, but yeah, I can't. I'm a nephilhim. Whatever made me into some kind of fallen angel turned off my need to sleep, so I'm awake all the time. I think I maybe can if I try, but I don't need it, and I heard that if I try too hard with it, I actually get a headache.
So...I'm just honestly constantly running on fumes. I'm not happy about it, but I wasn't the one that got to pick how this worked...it's worse because I'm the hard counter to most other monsters, too. My power comes from the light, most monsters are weak to it, so that makes it hard to really stay around anyone for long.
[It's kind of depressing. And lonely.]
...So long story short, getting faerie in comparison is a relief, I'd say.

[It just seems a little . . . unfair.]
I know there are significant downsides to any option, but actively repelling other monsters is pushing it past the point of reason. I'm sorry.
[The worst part of being dealt the faerie card, besides the cannibalism, is going to be the lying thing, which he does remember. But bringing that up is not a good way to keep a conversation going and would be a weak comparison anyway.]
At least I shouldn't have any problem with the light. And you seem very dignified? [He's trying, okay. Even if that isn't totally true. Dipper seems mostly dignified, but he's also talking very fast.]
no subject
There are a few monsters that are mostly fine with the light. Which is great. Thanks for being one of them, because I could absolutely use the company. [It also makes compiling the 'Rys-Journal' that much more difficult, but...he's still determined.]
...And I try to be dignified. I think I mostly come off as anxious. Which I also am. But, ah, we've all got our vices, I think. [He looks contemplative for a moment, before an idea occurs to him.] But hey, enough about my whining.
[He pulls out a small notepad and a pen from one of his pockets.]
Is it okay if I ask what your experience being a monster has been like? I'm making a book so people can better understand what monsters are like from the monster side of things. I actually haven't hit the faerie section yet.

A book? [His wings flutter briefly, surprised and uncertain. It's . . . not bad, exactly? But the idea of having his statements pinned down in a place where he isn't yet entirely established makes him unaccountably nervous.]
[Still. It is a good idea. Objectively. His own skittishness notwithstanding. So after a moment of hesitation, he does nod.]
I can do my best. I just started changing, though, so my experiences are extremely limited. If you'd still like my input, I'm happy to give it.
