TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER
Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!
SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.
There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.
SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.
Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.
Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.
SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
no subject
Just a human, from the same world as you, and judging by how angry you are? I just took a guess at the reason.
[Look, they've already made an attempt to RESET so they know there is some shenanigans going on.]
no subject
One that I don't know about.
[Pardon the look of INSANE disbelief, here. ... But it also comes with her trying to scratch a fin and ending up scratching a sad, human ear instead.
So considering the way her face just scrunches up entirely, it's safe to say, well...]
Something weird's going on, here, and I can't wrap my head around what...
But whatever it is, it'd have to be some damn strong magic to turn me into a human.
And if my guess is right, it probably did the same to you. Because there's no way a human that knows about monsters exists without me knowing about it!
You'd have to have fallen into the Underground, and no human gets past my eyes!
[... Ergo, she's just running with the assumption that Chara's a monster trying to take the piss, here. What else could they be??]
no subject
[Like, a hundred years before Frisk? Give or take, time is a bit foggy for them, the whole being dead thing can do that to a person.
Also they say it so casually that they can't help but laugh at it.]
And do you remember every human who has fallen during your lifetime? Aside from the last one, I mean?
[God, if only they were a monster taking the piss. There's nothing outwardly monsterous about them at this time, no fur or even weird coloured skin!]
no subject
[One could almost, almost swear she's started to sweat --]
Well, no. But does that really matter!?
If you're telling the truth, and you fell hundreds of years before I was born...
... Wait. Do humans age like monsters do?
Is that it? You just a shrimp still 'cause you're an orphan or something?
Nothing Alphs showed me had anything like that, though...
[granted they're not real but that's a fresh would we shant be poking ok]
no subject
[They manage to interject with that before remaining quiet for the rest of Undyne's... Ponderings? Thought process? Whatever you want to call they're just going to let her talk before they say more.]
Oh, would it help if I told you I know Frisk? [Honestly they're pretty sure if they told the whole truth? Undyne wouldn't believe them, so they're just going to dance around the truth for now.]
1/2
No!? That just makes it more confusing!
What the hell is even going on anymore!? I'm human, you're some sort of geezer who's friends with Frisk out of nowhere, I'm still blue -
Can humans even be blue!?
[She's pretty sure she's only seen ONE blue human, and it was in an anime!!]
2/2
... She gets stuck staring at the stars for a moment, still so unused to how they look.
But that's fast to shake off when she sees the light of a town in the distance, and soon enough, she's stomping off in that direction. ... Though she stops to throw a look over her shoulder at Chara.]
I'm gonna go check out this dump. Follow or not, I don't care.
[Apparently she's done with this train of thought. Too much for the fish brain - she'll contemplate it harder later, on her own.]
no subject
It might be better to stick together, the whole numbers thing after all.
[Of course they may have to jog a little to keep up, but they're going to do their best.]
no subject
[Said with just a dismissive wave over her shoulder as she turns around to continue her stomping.
It's not SUPER effective with the sand and all, but the beach isn't too big, luckily! And Vandare's not too far from there, either.
... Of course, for some reason, she ends up stopping at the edge of the city. Right where the sidewalk starts up.
And then she looks to her unlikely little companion, worrying her lip a bit...]
You're a human. Right?
So you know how to talk to other humans? For information and junk like that?
[Her? Nervous? Haha, no!! Never! Haha... yeah...]
no subject
Yes, I'm human. [Or was, they're not going to split hairs over things like what they called themselves in the void.]
And what? Is the mighty Royal Guardswoman afraid to ask some humans for help?
[Now they're just making fun of her.]
no subject
She trains every day by lifting boulders - even without the supernatural strength, she's strong enough to lift a kid.]
I'm not afraid of ANYTHING. I just don't know how to talk to humans without threatening to kill them!
[And now Chara's being put in front of her instead, put down carefully on their own two feet.
"Carefully" being the keyword. It's surprisingly kindly despite the muscleheaded nature of picking them up at all.]
Think of yourself as... my seeing eye dog. I've never spoken to a human before Frisk - so you'd know better than I would how to do it!!
no subject
So don't mind them being quiet and taking a moment to blink a little at everything that just transpired.]
Fine, I guess I can help you with that. Even though I doubt many will help us, 'cause a kid is asking.
[So with a little apprehension they'll take the lead, heading into the city and basically expecting Undyne to follow.]
no subject
[Of course, Undyne's definitely following - at this point it's all but been cemented in her head that this is an Actual Child from her world, human or not, and she's never been too good at letting kids go off and potentially get hurt.
She'd even admit it herself!! Because what hero of the people would let kids go get hurt??]
... We should probably ask'em where we are, first. It's obviously it's the surface, but where on the surface?
no subject
Which honestly they don't want to do, but here we go.]
Hey, pardon me. [As they approach a man who doesn't look all that busy, and oh boy hopefully they're in Southern Vandare or else this could go south really quick.]
Me and my friend here, [Chara gestures at Undyne.] are lost and we just need to know where we are?
no subject
In fact, it almost seems like the man's gonna sneer and walk away from this weird kid... but then Chara gestures up at Undyne looming behind them, and they get a good look at her hardened expression and sharp teeth and manage to stammer out -
"V-Vandare! But why don't you go ask your kind for more information - I'm just a businessman, I don't know anything!"
Before managing to scamper away. ... It's taking a lot of endurance for Undyne not to just run after the man and grab him by his coat, ask what he means by "your kind".
Instead, she just angles that look down at Chara in front of her.]
"Vandare". That ring any bells for you? ... And are you sure you're human?
You're not pullin' my leg, are you? That guy didn't seem too convinced.
no subject
Well, at least the guy didn't try to kill them or something like that. So not that bad. And when Undyne talks they come out of their momentary shocked daze to turn and look up at Undyne.]
Not a single bell ringing here, and yes! I'm very sure I'm human, maybe that guy is just not right in the head.
no subject
[She honestly didn't have strong doubts... they were just based on the idea that there was a human apparently lurking in the Underground that she didn't know about.
Surely, that'd just be a monster trying to get their kicks by claiming they're human, right --
But from here, she pushes forward again, stomping as she usually does ahead of Chara.]
C'mon. If we're lost, we oughtta at least find a place to stay for the night.
no subject
Yes ma'am, maybe we can find a hotel or something like that except do you have any money on you?
[Chara found their pockets completely empty when they awoke, and they have a hunch the same thing happened to Undyne.]
no subject
[Said with just the smallest look over her shoulder at her little cohort.
And then she faces forward again, her stomping getting more... emphatic. March-like? Soldiery?]
All that matters to me is we have a roof and a few walls! So that's what I'm gonna find for us!!
Or for me, at least! I guess I can't really make you stay with me or something.
But, you know, in case you don't really wanna go sleep under a bench. The offer's there!
no subject
[Their grin is back, at least.
And they're just keeping up a big step stride to well, keep up.]
I'll consider your offer then, but I'm pretty fine with sleeping outside. I've done it before.
