SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[ And she couldn't afford to miss any of them, especially Yuya. If she could find anyone she knew... ]

[ Naoto puts his hand on her shoulder. It was a small gesture of comfort, but he hoped that was enough for her to hold onto hope, no matter how small. ]

I'm sure they're looking for you too, so chin up. You're not going to let yourself be a sitting duck, are ya? And like I said, I'll tell you if I find them, so you're not alone in the search.

[ The gesture definitely helped, as Yuzu evidently released some amount of tension and sighed in relief. Despite the news that they would be turning into monsters (which definitely qualified as "bad news"), a comforting gesture such as this was more than helpful. ]

Thanks, Naoto. You watch my back and I'll watch yours, okay?

[ He laughs awkwardly, trying his best to make sure he didn't come off as condescending with his next words. With the type of people who usually chased after him, Yuzu was safer the farther away from the battlefield. ]

I appreciate the thought, but I don't think you can throw a punch or two. ... Or at all. I would be happier if you were just moral support, yeah?

[ If he were to get Yuzu killed, her friends wouldn't be the happiest people alive, no siree. ]

Hm?

[ Her smile froze, and her eyebrows slowly creased together in frustration. ]

[ Somehow, this was more intimidating than anything else... probably because of the sweet smile that was still on Yuzu's face– ]

Ha–!

[ A prompt and unexpected roundhouse kick to knock Naoto flat on his ass. Despite Yuzu's young age, she's also an Action Duelist. She's more athletic than her appearance implies. One should avoid making her angry when the only weapons on-hand are her fists and legs. If she had her paper fan on her, she would've gone for that instead. ]

I don't want to hear that from the person who is lacking an arm, okay?

[ Her words were dripping with sweetness, which made them all the more terrifying in this specific context. ]

Whoa--!!

[ Naoto managed to predict the kick, shifting his whole body enough for him to easily dodge. He had to fight his instinct to return the roundhouse, trying to remember that he wasn't in a life-or-death situation. He took a few moments to recover, taking in a deep breath and standing up straight before he continued. ]

You made your point! I wouldn't be missing my arm if this crazy place didn't take away my blood powers, anyways...

[ Yuzu's eyes widened in surprise. Perhaps it's because most people don't actually end up dodging. Maybe it was because she was more used to her paper fan? Questions for later. ]

Oh, that was pretty amazing...

[ She was genuinely impressed. Also, blood powers? Well, it's not like she hasn't had her fair share of craziness herself, what with multiple dimensions, counterparts, an original that she was a quarter of, and Yuya being in the same situation except with a bunch of other baggage to go with it. ]

Blood powers? Is that something you can explain quickly or should we save that for later?

Ahaha, thank you...

[ Ah yes, the Shift Sway technique. It saved his bacon many times. He didn't consider it that impressive, as it was just a simple dodge, but he didn't dare say it. ]

[ He flinches when she asks about Bloodedge, but he knew he couldn't get out of it. She had to make that question super specific, didn't she? ]

Simple version; I can use my blood to create anything, even my arm. Don't mention it to anyone though.

[ Now THAT was something she wanted to question further, but she decided to hold her tongue on that regard. This didn't stop her from blinking a few times, though. ]

Well... blood powers aside. Glad to work with you, Naoto!

[ Naoto knew she wanted to ask more; everyone did once he mentioned the fact, unless they saw it firsthand. He doubted he could properly explain what Drives and all that were, so the change of subject was very welcome. ]
