TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY / AUGUST

TDM: JULY / AUGUST

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[ No, nothing has changed since he was last here, Jiang Cheng still hates Bavan. Yet tonight, staying in the dingy hotel room seems even more unbearable than braving the city - maybe it is the rain that drives him outside, the danger of it, the opportunity to wallow in self-hate for what he has become which he can't permit himself at home, where he needs to hold himself together.

But tonight there is only the rain and him, purple robes covered by a see-through plastic rain cape covering him from the top of his head to his ankles.

In the dark, he can pass as human as long as he doesn't speak. There is the bone-white porcelain creeping up his throat and his right hand but it's not too noticeable as long as nobody looks closely, and he doesn't give the opportunity for it, stalking quickly through the crowds, his stance forbidding and demanding that people make way for him, the sword he carries openly further threat.

When he catches sight of the dark-haired man darting down the street and disappearing between two buildings, it is the way he moves that arouses his suspicion, he hasn't even gotten a good enough look to notice the blood, not yet. But there is something furtive about him, something which reeks of guilt or secrets, and in Jiang Cheng, hunger stirs his hunter's instincts and with it, the ever-same question would it truly be so terrible to give in if you hunt the wicked? Maybe there's more than self-hate to these nightly forays.

He follows before he has even made the conscious choice and there is a burning at his fingertips, an electric crackle, purple threads sparking. He curls his hands into fists.

It's dark here, even darker than on the main street, but the glimpse of a car passing by illuminates his prey... no, the man, not the prey leaning against a wall and now his eyes notice the conspicuous darkness - blood? His feeding cables, just forcefully retracted, spark in his balled fists. ]

What do you have to hide?! [ he demands in his gramophone-like mechanical voice. ]

Hide?

[ the word comes out with an edge of anger. this had been a last, desperate effort to remove himself until he could try and make sense of what's happening to him.

why did someone have to follow?

this feels like rotten luck but if it's his or his antagoniser's he's not sure yet. the voice doesn't sound human but a month in this place isn't a very long time to be on the up-and-up about every strange thing he's had to learn the names for so he doesn't discount the possibility that someone's made themselves sound that way deliberately somehow.

as he turns around, expression darkening, a threatening growl rasps its way out of his throat. it's such a disconcerting sound that it makes him pause for a moment or two, recalling more vividly than he'd like another time and place where — after also having been unwisely provoked — he'd boldly claimed that if he'd killed someone he'd let everyone know who did it. now he was cowering in the dark trying to hide his shame in the folds of his clothes, as if they weren't bloody too.

that was different! he hadn't wanted this to happen! he doesn't even remember. he just—.. what? lost control? wei wuxian clasps a clawed hand over his mouth to hold in.. something. he feels like he could yell or sob or possibly be sick. he bites his tongue and realises to his dismay that his teeth feel sharper.

when he finally drops his fingers from his face they leave smears of red on his pallid skin that only contribute to his frightful appearance. maybe it will be to his benefit? part of him clings to the hope that maybe the situation won't escalate. there's still time to walk away so he can become whatever sort of horror he's meant to be. ]

Get lost.

[ He steps closer towards the man - man, not prey - his steps slow and small but deliberate still like a prowling hunter's far more than a concerned bystander's.

Another flash of light from a car lets him make out the man's face, now streaked with red streaks which must have been left behind by his own hand. Even so, there is something unsettlingly familiar about the face though he can barely make it out in the dark, and all familiarity is further distorted by a monster's teeth and budding horns peeking out from his sodden hair. He can't pinpoint for sure what this man is turning into but it is enough to let Jiang Cheng piece together what has driven him blood-driven into the alley. ]

No [ he says firmly, and stepping closer still, not planning to stop until he is just barely outside of grabbing - or clawing - range. ] I know what happened to you. You were hungry. You killed. [ A heartbeat passes, not that he has any such thing anymore. ] I'm hungry, too. [ And still, the hunger gnawing in him insists, wouldn't it be better to kill one that is guilty than to keep starving until he again kills the innocent? He could be sated right now, right here... ]

[ he shifts away as the distance between them starts to shrink until his back is pressed against the brick, the rough surface catching at his clothes and his hair. the words tug at some deep part of him at first, just for an instant. then he can't help but hear it as more of an accusation than a comfort, or it might just be his guilt latching on and twisting it that way. ]

So? If you're like me it's only a matter of time..

[ with their tone the words leave a familiar, bitter taste in his mouth, just like any time he ever had to explain himself after things began to spiral. he sounds vaguely amused but there is an added barb in there for himself.

wei wuxian tries to catch a glimpse of what he's really dealing with the next time light splashes briefly down the alleyway, but the angle's all wrong and whatever the man.. monster ( ? ).. is wrapped in to keep the rain off isn't helping. he doesn't like the light, ducking his head and letting his wet bangs slip down to do what little they can until the car turns and darkness envelops them again. ]

I thought you might be some kind of enforcer, running around accusing people of hiding things like that.. [ he's relieved to have been wrong, at least. ] But you aren't any better.
