TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY / AUGUST
Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!
SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.
There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.
SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.
Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.
Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.
SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

He really hadn't meant to be walking behind the kid, strange green and red dyed hair, for so long but to be fair he wasn't far and he was doing his best to match the glares so they would stop. That is until they hit a less populated area and, well. Maybe now would be a good time to speak up?]
Hey.
[How long had they walked? It seemed pretty far. Far enough for complaints to come in from his legs about doing so for much longer.]
Dad spotted
Out of habit, he turned around, his duel disk at the ready.
But the man looked anything but hostile. Actually now that Yuya thought about, he looked utterly exhausted.]
“Oh, hello...”
[He lowered his duel disk, not that it worked anyways.
Looking at the... older man, Yuya realized he also didn’t recognize him. Not that he recognized anyone.]
“Are you a local?”
[Yuya asked, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. ]
“See, I kinda... don’t know where I am.”
[It’d be easier to admit he was clueless than pretend he wasn’t. He smiled, trying to look as non suspicious as possible... if that was even possible.]
“I’m guessing this is one of the other dimensions, right? So if you could just point me to the nearest dimensional hole...”

Odd choice of "accessories" to defend yourself with aside, [He nodded toward the useless device on the kid's arm. Well. Useless unless he hit someone with it.] no, I'm not a local. I am just as new here as you. Apologies.
[What other dimensions, though? With the bright choice in hair colors, and clothing, Jon might've pegged him as some teen dressed up for Halloween. Except it hadn't even been October last he knew.]
What– I. I don't recognize what you mean by dimensions.

[Upon closer inspection, the playing field wasn’t activated. In fact the screen wasn’t on either. Had he broken it? He tapped the screen, no response...]
“What the...”
[The mans apology went unheard, but his question about what Yuya meant by ‘dimensions’ was not. Odd, he thought everyone had been filled in on the four dimensions by now.]
“You know, Xyz, Synchro, Fusion.”
[Yuya thoughtfully left out his own, cause this was definitely not Standard... er, Pendulum. He still wasn’t used to that.]
“If you’re not from here, then where are you from?”
[He looked over the man again, Yuya had hopped through all dimensions and interacted with many people. All dimensions dressed differently. And yet this mans clothes didn’t particularly fit any one dimension... and upon closer inspection he realized he also didn’t have a duel disk.]

[Wait. No. Never mind that. What was with those names? EX-EE-Z? Synchro? Fusion?]
Okay. Pretend I know nothing about what you're talking about. I lived somewhere secluded and ignorant of anything to do with these dimensions and duel disks. What are you talking about?
[Surprise, surprise. Nothing happened, even with the emphasis and the burning desire to Know. No static. Nothing. Jon hopes it means that he actually hadn't slipped up and compelled. That it didn't work or that, like his running theory, it was blocked like everything else he was once able to do.
He slaps a hand over his mouth anyway.]

Yuya had to remind himself that indeed this man didn’t have a duel disk. In fact, no one around here did. It put a sense of doubt in him, he had been so sure this was just some far corner of a dimension he had washed up on. Yet if this really were the case, even a corner like this would have something to do with Duel Monsters. The game was just so ingrained in the Dimensions culture.
And if this wasn’t any of the four dimensions, then where the heck was he? At this point answering the man's question had become a very huge after thought, he had gotten lost in his own thoughts.]
“Wait okay, you don’t know what duel monsters is, you don’t have a duel disk… And you don't know about the dimensions...”
[He said aloud trying to organize his own thoughts, he started pacing, and for the first time since he tried at the beach. Reached out for any of his counterparts.
But he got no response. Just an aching silence… Not even Yuto answered him… and he had always been there…]
“Is this… somewhere else?”
[He asked this mostly to himself, yet it was enough for him to start putting things into place… If this wasn’t any of the dimensions, then where was he? And why had he been cut off from his counterparts? He felt a familiar feeling of dread, rising panic in his chest. But he didn’t show it, he might not be able to hide his eyes but… This was no big deal. He was fine, It’d all be fine, he had to believe it would be…]

So with this small epiphany had for the second time in roughly as many hours, Jon does what he does best.

Somewhere else? Perhaps if I knew where each of these places are I could help you, but if you don't mind my asking, what are duel monsters and why would you duel with them or why would they duel each other? Is it a way to solve disagreements?
[Yuya did seem like he was going to try and actually defend himself with whatever a duel disk's function actually was. Maybe as a way of controlling the monsters in question.]
As far as I'm aware, this place is called Vandare. I'm from London, so, unless one of your dimensions has a London, I think...
[Think what? That the multiverse is a thing? That his world isn't the only one that exists? No. No surely not. This kid whose name he doesn't yet know obviously is just from some culture on Earth that he didn't know about. Lots of those around.]
I think that we're both lost, in that case.
[Jon finds some stairs up to a townhouse and sits himself down unceremoniously. Hopefully Yuya hadn't seen that he'd been still standing out of sheer willpower and an effort to not appear weak to anyone here.]

“Okay, um-”
[He started, even though he wasn’t quite sure where to start. The thought of someone not knowing Duel Monsters was just a bit out there for him. He lived and breathed Duel Monsters, everyone in the dimensions did… But this guy wasn’t from any of them, he had to remind himself of that.
Somehow the most wild thing wasn’t that there were more than four dimensions out there, it was that they didn’t revolve around Duel Monsters… But enough about that, he should really start answering questions.]
“So I’m from Miami city, I’ve never heard of a place called ‘London’.” [It felt weird saying that, so he started pacing again.] “And Duel Monsters is…”
[How do you explain something like that? Whatever, just go…]
Duel Monsters is a card game, it’s… sometimes used to settle fights,”[He grimaced, remembering all he had gone through, all the despair this ‘game’ had caused in the past… But he still believed it was more than that.]“but that’s not what it’s known for or anything. It’s more like a sport?”
[He knew there was a time where action dueling wasn’t a thing, but to him that didn’t matter, it had evolved beyond that.]
“You can jump, leap, and even ride on your summoned monsters.”[He seemed almost giddy, he liked Duel Monsters enough, and he’d played it enough to even remember the action duel mantra.] “Not that it’s important, if this place doesn’t have it, and neither does yours.”
[He went silent again, thinking through his words before speaking. Before committing to something, yet so far this man had been the only one to give him the time of day, he should pay forward that kindness.]
“But um, if we’re both lost, maybe it’d be a good idea to stick together and help each other out?”
[Yuya even added a small chuckle and a smile, anything to make him seem friendlier. Even if he wanted to curl up into a ball and scream right now.]

A card game? If Jon weren't used to the idea that books could be fear incarnate and also evil, if he had still been in the mindset of "feigned ignorance is safety" then he would just dismiss it out of hand. A card game that let you summon monsters that was both a sport and a cultural norm so far as using them to fight out arguments and disputes?
Tomato kid hadn't heard of London either, and he was from Miami? That was in the United States right? He'd been there for a time, but hadn't gotten around to visiting the place. But surely he would have at least heard of London in an abstract way, right?]
It would be best to stick together, yes.
[Jon's agreement was probably delayed. He had a lot on his mind, a lot that he'd been learning in the last few hours and trying to adjust to the new environment on top of that. It was a lot to process. He did think that there's safety in finding people you got on with and sticking with them though. Especially if-]
How old are you?
[Especially if this guy was as young as he looked. The glares he'd been getting, well. Jon hadn't been receiving the best treatment by the locals here but he hadn't been shown outright hostility up until this point. He didn't know if the people here would attack a child either. He hoped not.]
And. And your name. I'm Jon, by the way.

“Oh, I’m Yuya Sakaki.”[what was that other question? Oh, right.]”I’m fourteen... kinda.”[Lets not talk about that.] “it’s nice to meet you Jon.”
[He awkwardly approached the sitting man and extended his arm, originally to shake his hand... but he realized after it looked like he was offering to help him up... oh well, either was fine.]
Mission Successful.
What do you- [It occurs to Jon that his allowance for direct questions might not last. Reoccurs, actually, not for the first time. He's glad that he's been able to, that he might still be able to, but he doesn't want to fall back into the habit only to have it shoot him in the foot.]
I'd like to know what you mean by 'kinda'. You are fourteen, or you are not.
[Oops. Maybe swung a little too far and went right down into Rude Diner. And he is, unfortunately for Yuya, taking that hand as an offer to help him up And a handshake both. He raises an eyebrow at it, before offering his own hand. The burned one, because that's the one that doesn't force Yuya to switch his own and make this 1% more awkward.]

"It's a long story, l-let's just say I existed once before..." [Yuya avoided anything about Zarc, even his name. The past was in the past, he had to think that way or he might break down.
Jon's burnt hand was the next thing to catch his attention, not only cause he was intrigued. But because it was a good change of subject. After making sure the man made it to his feet, he asked.]
"What happened to your hand?"
