SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

I've....been through a lot. Let's just say this is bad, but it could always be worse.

[He snorts.] Hey, you might not look the type, but one of the best fighters I know is one of my best friend's girlfriend. Trust me when I say underestimating anyone is a bad idea.

[Nod.]

That'd be appreciated. Yeah, I kinda need all the help I can get at this rate...and I'd kinda like to know what I might have to spend my life as. Since there's no choosing and I can't just say that I'd like to be a dragon, because dragons are awesome.

[Typical Josuke, taking things in stride...]

I would not be all this if I had a choice. Maybe something sporty, like... I don't know. Not this, though. But a dragon? I guess maybe you could kinda look like one if you're a naga, maybe? They're really long, though.

[She laughs at his assessment.]

I can't even throw a punch, so no. I'm not adept at fighting at all. Which hasn't been a real issue yet and I would personally like to keep it that way.

Sporty...that's difficult. I'm trying to think of monster movies and the most my brain is coming up with is 'transforming robot' which is pretty awesome, but doesn't fit the tone. Naga are like snakes, right? See, the problem with that is that snakes eat mice. I don't wanna eat mice. I will eat almost anything but I draw the line at mice.

[He snickers.]

I mean, you probably could. But you don't want to. So just make tough friends instead. [That's what Koichi did until he got his upgrades and it worked out fine for him.] But you seem like a social kinda person, so that's probably not too hard.

Oh. Uh.

[Well, better to get this out of the way now.]

Why don't you take a seat over on that rock, and I'm going to tell you a little more about what to expect here.

[Oh man... she didn't want to be the bearer of bad news here, but it looks like he doesn't have a whole lot of choice. Oh, and he looks like he'll hate this as much as she does... Ooh nooo...]

[He blinks. And then he takes a seat on that rock, slowly raising a brow as he holds his head in one hand.]

So any news that starts with 'I'm gonna need you to sit down' is never good, from experience. Go ahead, though, lay it on me. What's up?

Well, yeah, it's not great news.

[She tucks her thick red hair behind pointed ears, each one tufted with a little bit of fur.]

OK, so, you were worried about eating mice, right? And you're not totally wrong, we all have to eat something... uh, but those mice are people. And if you go too long without eating, you kinda go berserk, so I've heard.

Like, other people can explain it better, but if you want the cards laid out like that... then that's what it is.
