Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Pfff-tah!

[The young girl washed ashore coughs up what feels like a lungful of sand. She lets out a gasp as she scrambles to her knees, taking in the salty air. It wasn't an... unfamiliar sight, at least not yet. For a moment, she thinks maybe she took some kind of sand nap on the beaches of the Boiling Isles.]

King? Did you bury me in the sand again?

[She looks around, no one in sight. Did King get bored and wander off?]

... King? Anyone? Heeeelloooo?

[Nothing to worry about, right?]

[Four]

[it's been a few weeks since she's seen Eda or King, and a few weeks since she's realized she's not on the Boiling Isles anymore. Or anyone close to home. She hasn't given up yet - she's a scrappy, smart teen. She'll figure a way out of this mess even with the feathers-

Wait.

Feathers?

She glances down at her arms, owl-like feathers growing from them. She gives a surprised yelp, and tries to pull one off. It's surprisingly painful, like they're attached...]

Oooohh, this isn't good....

[After a few months of no-shows from newbies, Maya can't believe she's happened to take a trip back to Vandare just as the fog has brought them back to its waves. She'd just intended to collect sealife to sell again, but strange humans are much more interesting than starfish.]

Hello!

[Maya answers Luz's calls with a hello of her own, sliding her orca butt over from the surf next to the younger girl. She, of course, cannot stand, so she waves at Luz from below.]

Are you okay?

[Luz sits up, brushing the sand off her clothing. She can't help but stare at the talking orca - now that's something she's never seen on the Boiling Isles! But the Boiling Isles has all kinds of creatures on it.]

Yeah, I'm fine! I think King was playing a joke on me.

So uh... you're an orca lady? That's so cool!

Yeah! I know, right? I'm a mermaid!

[Out of all the monsters she could have gotten, Maya pretty much lucked out.]

Who's King?

So cool...

[Her eyes sparkle a little.]

King is the King of Demons! He's ferocious, he's terrifying, he's... surprisingly fluffy!

And he's my friend! I think he got distracted and forgot he buried me in the sand.

[Because that's what happened, right?]

Whoa, talk about cool!

But actually, he kind of sounds too cool to have landed you in a place like this.

[Maya explains, sobering up just a little.]

This is a totally different world than where you came from, and a friend wouldn't send you here.

Different world? Isn't this the Boiling Isles?

... Now that I think about it, I haven't seen any giant monsters slugs...

But still, different world?

What? Boiling Isles sounds way cooler than this place,

[Maya notes before explaining--]

This is a town called Vandare on a peninsula called Ryslig. The monsters here are a little less giant.

I wouldn't use the word cool. ... I'm not sure what word you'd use for it to be honest.

[It's definitely not the cool fantasy world like in her animes.

More importantly-]

Ryslig? You mean I got sent to another world again?

OH MY GOSH YOU HAVE FEATHERS!

[jesus christ where did Star come from all of a sudden? She just jumped out of the shadows and glomped onto Luz without so much as a warning.]

We can be BIRD BUDDIES!

[Luz spins around trying to keep her balance.]

B-bird buddies? [Maybe this isn't like Eda's curse then? And wouldn't be so bad? But she's not sure how she feels about turning into a bird either.]

I don't think I'm ready to turn into a bird yet!

Well, flying does sound awesome but... I really don't want to turn into a giant bird monster that attacks anything that moves.

And I don't mean you. I've got a teacher that kind of has this problem of... um... turning into a large bird monster that attacks anything that moves.

You probably shouldn't be picking at that, [the man says with a newscaster's lack of accent. He's probably old enough to be her father, what with the touch of grey at his temple.] For better or worse, it's part of you now.

[He's got antennae, it looks like, and pointed ears, so maybe he knows what he's talking about.]

[She wishes she paid more attention to what it is that Eda actually drinks to prevent her curse.]

Okay, um... I don't know how to say this but...

I think in a few minutes I'm going to transform into a hideous - but kind of fierce - owl monster and go around attack people. Is this some place I could go where I can't... y'know, do that.

I mean, presumably in the forest? I'm headed out there myself.

[If he had to feed off people's energy with weird mushroom circles instead of by touch, as nature intended, he was going to make those weird mushroom circles somewhere appropriate.]

The forest! That's a great idea! I think I know where that is... I mean, it can't be that hard to find.

[She super does not know where anything is here.]

[She's a kid, after all. Someone should keep an eye out for her.]

Great! Well. Not great, because I'm turning into a murderous bird monster, but...

Anyyywaaaaay, let's go. I'm Luz, by the way.

Steven. I'm pleased to meet you, Luz.

[So-- off they go? If she were a little younger, he'd probably hold her hand, but she's not. So he won't.]

Nice to meet you, Steven. You'll... be okay if I do turn into a bird monster, right?

[Off they go! This isn't really ideal, but with Luz slowly turning into a bird, she's not really sure what's right to do in this situation.]
