TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • Manticores have been added to the bestiary!
  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • For the first app round only, you can app TWO characters.
  • Mod applications are open until Wednesday!
  • Reserve and application dates have been announced.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

He walks alongside Donald as if they're equals. Loki may look down upon humans, but the lure of knowledge is strong with this one regardless of his species. So when Donald asks if Loki is from Earth, he doesn't scoff with taken offense or incredulity, but smirks briefly.

"I am not of Earth, but the Realm Eternal." With a flourish, he says, "Asgard. I don't suppose you've observed us?"

Because his lack of reaction to Loki's name means one of two things, he thinks: either Donald hasn't heard of his misdeeds or he has and is acting ignorant. Loki's ego is that big.

"My team was assigned to a very specific set of timelines," Donald explains, looking at Loki with greatly renewed interest. "But one of the many myth cycles I observed referred to Asgard as the home of their gods. Loki was a trickster god who was later associated with the Christian devil, if memory serves."

Again, there's that tilt of his head as he considers this new information. "So you're saying you come from a reality where these myths are fact?" No accusations of insanity here, but while he's definitely impressed, he seems more interested in the scientific applications of this fact rather than the fact that he's in the presence of a literal god.

Scientists, man.

His brows lift in mild amusement. A devil, he says? Goodness, the mortals could be so melodramatic. (Pot, kettle, black.)

That amusement carries over to his tone. "From my timeline, they are not. The mortals took great creative liberties with their myths." Which is true, though Loki has an ulterior motive for saying so. If he can cast doubt on the claims of his character, then he can craft whatever image he wants to project.

Donald suddenly looks quite embarrassed. "I'm sorry," he says, flustered. "I didn't mean to imply you were...well." He clears his throat. "Anyway, even if there's no factual basis, it's intriguing that there are parallels between your world and my timeline's myth, even if only in name. Did your people visit Earth in your timeline?"

His amusement only rises with Donald's embarrassment. "Worry not; I've taken no offense. And as a matter of fact, we--" Hah, 'we'. "--did. Just shy of a thousand years ago, a race of monsters known as the Frost Giants invaded Midgard. That would be your Earth," he adds, attention flickering Donald's way before returning to the path before them. "The Asgardians, led by the All-Father, pushed them back to Jotunheim and saved the day."

Miraculously, Loki managed to keep the sarcasm out of that last bit.

"Beyond that, we refrained from meddling in business not our own."

Donald nods along, his mind working furiously. "Yes, the war between the Norse gods and the Frost Giants was part of my timeline's mythology. The event may have been enough to form a soft spot between our universes..." He trails off a moment, then suddenly his face lights up. This would very good news if his theory is even close to correct. "Wait, that's it!"

He fishes around in his pockets, then remembers any paper he'd have on him would have been waterlogged to uselessness. Nevermind! "That must have been how we got here! Given the right technology, it should be possible to reverse the effect. Loki you're a genius."

His interest in Donald's musing is genuine, and thus, an increasing (and frustrating to anyone who has ever had to deal with Loki's air-freshened bullshit) rarity. He balances the road ahead with Donald beside him, eyes darting to the latter with lifted brows when he exclaims.

And then his steps come to a halt and his eyebrows threaten to sail right past his hairline. Someone has recognized and appreciated his smarts.

Finally.

(Donald, you know not what you've done!)

"I beg your pardon?" he asks, honestly curious and, appreciating Donald's acknowledgement of his intelligence, willing to make his ignorance known for the sake of rectifying it.
