Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
That's his leader voice speaking, low and rumbling, the same that had stopped his friends from arguing against each other when they were about to throw someone into that television and kill an innocent man.
That seems so far away now.
Pieces of the dried lava fall to the ground, as the new muscles continue to grow, pulsating as they form a bridge between the bones and his back, sinew, skin and blood vessels filling in after each heartbeat in rapid succession until the skin between each of the bones has solidified into leathery wings that were impressive to behold. When the connection to his brain is made, Yu can't help but snap backwards in surprise, the wings unfolding to full length, before they fold slightly back as he gains control. The muscles continue to thicken in mass; with such grand wings, he's going to need a muscle frame to support it.
Just as his sight begins to come back to him, he can finally see Yukiko's frame in front. How small she looks right now despite that he's the one on the ground...yet she's so innocently beautiful. He looks down as he feels something stirring inside him again, and as he touches his stomach, he marvels that his hands now lack fingernails, instead having turned into dark, burnt-ash claws. Experimentally, he moves his left hand slowly, as he notices that the veins on his arms have become more visible. The blood flow is increasing, and he can see that his arms are becoming more denser, with what little body fat he had on him evaporating. His pants can barely stay together, the fabric threatening to tear, as he realizes that the bottom is now below his knee. He's grown.
There was barely any pain now, or what pain there was, it was more joyful than fear. He can feel that his entire body is adjusting, humming in energy, and wonders why he was afraid of this in the first place. Still in a daze, he finally stands up, and realizing how the wings don't seem to weight all that much with his new body. Gods, his shoes look stupid against everything else, and he carelessly tosses them aside, only to realize that his toes on each foot have begun to fuse together, his sole growing backwards as they turn into hooves, giving him even more inches. He has to be at least seven feet tall by now. Without warning, he strikes at the ground with one of his hooves, and the rock below cracks into a fine dust. Good. Now even the hardest rocks will give him no problem to walk upon. Everything will tremble under his touch...
Maybe he shouldn't have celebrated so fast. He takes a step back, wings leaning against the wall nearby as he grasps his head, feeling more bones cracking. Four pieces of thick bone, far stronger than his human ones, begin to rise above his hair, twisting into thick ram-like spikes, blood trickling down to his face. The tail on his back finally tears through the back fabric of his pants, moving slowly back and forth like a dog before thickening, growing long enough to give him good balance. He takes a small step with one of his feet.
"It's fine, Yukiko. It's not as painful as before." In fact, he feels more powerful than anytime before in his life. Even the ability to use persona seems laughably pathetic, and as he lets out a small grin, a wisp of smoke escapes his mouth, running his tongue over his teeth, feeling them becoming sharper each passing second. His eyes have begun to lose their white, the sclera replaced with jet black, contrasting his red iris even more drastically.
"See? I'm...fine..."
If one could describe his transformation as 'being fine'.
But that was it: he wasn't fine. If Yukiko could get a word out, he's damn near terrifying. It's enough to watch him grow but also from watching him do so, she falls on her butt and just stares at what was her friend at one point. To say he's changed is an understatement and with the way he's looking at her...it isn't good for her to stay.
But what is causing her to not get up and run for her life?
Is it the fear of the monster before her? The worry of the friend she cares about so much? If she didn't move, Yukiko could be in serious danger. If she ran, she might die but Yu might lose a chance of regaining himself...is he still in there? When he speaks it sounds like him, like nothing has happened. But why is she shaking or her breath caught in her throat? Why can't she speak? All she could do is shake and when she did speak, it came out as a squeak.
"You...don't..." she covers her mouth upon hearing the noise and looks down. "I-I'm sorry!"
"Don't be sorry," he said, kneeling down to be closer to her. Gently, he lifts her up with just one of his arms, before closing his wings into a cloak around the both of them. "You stayed here despite my warnings," he added. "It takes a true friend to do that..."
She's so pretty. Even her fear, her confusion is enticing. Her soul is so pure...maybe he should take it...
"What do you think?" He guides her hand with his free one, placing it against his abs. Oh he knew. He knew how each of the girls and the guys in his team felt about him, their darkest secrets and desires. With the skill to know which buttons to push coupled with whatever moral guidelines he had before evaporated like the lava that had spilled from him, the situation was much more dangerous for her than at first glance. He wasn't even bothering to hold back. "I'll protect you, Yukiko, from now on. I'll make sure nothing happens to you..."
She yelps slightly because he is picking her up with only one arm and the fact that he's being rather gentle with her confuses her to no end. Yukiko keeps on trying to find the right words but it's hard to considering who is speaking to her. A rather...massive, horn wearing, tail weaving, sudden wing growth version of her friend. And it sounds like he trusts her...or something due to the little fact of being wrapped around those wings of his. At least this wasn't like that odd novel about the vampire right?
"I...want to be there for my friends...no matter what..." it sounds faint, lacking in courage. It get worse when her hand is pushed on his bare skin, making her go three shades of red darker. To protect her...? Shouldn't she...?
It's too easy. Laughably easy. He sees her blush and can almost taste the energy she's giving off. He's toying with her, wanting to prolong this to make it last as long as possible. He wants more. He wants all of it.
Chuckling again, the laughter different than what she might have heard of him before; it sounds like Yu, but there's something off about it. Not quite right. He removes his hand from hers and places a single clawed finger on her mouth.
"Shhhhh. Don't worry. You've done an admirable job of that so far."
He wasn't even thinking like a human anymore. Purposefully pushing all of her buttons to get a reaction? Maybe. Did he desire her? Oh definitely. He'd claim her for his own, Soul and all.
He utters a few words in a language he's never heard before, but it seems to pathetically easy now. Yukiko's lips will feel even hotter as he removes it, binding her in place. Yet she's lucky...the spell should have worked her in full, but he's still young in his powers. Lowering her again, he raises his wings into the air, hiding the moon as he kneels, this time placing his lips to hers. They are far more enticing than he would have thought them. It's not a kiss from a friend, or even a lover. Somehow, there's lust behind it, a terrible dark violence that needs to be stopped, if she values her life.
It's a kiss of death.
He's already slipping right into the darkness, caught in the moment. Just a few more seconds, and her Soul will be His forever.
It's hard to consider leaving someone she cared about all alone. It's still Yu no matter the form, the same Fool who saved her, befriended her, and became the leader everyone looked up to. But here he is praising her and even kissing her like it's a dream come true. He cares about her, wanting to protect her...but something is forming in the pit of her stomach. There's something sinister about this setup and it makes itself worse when she can't move for some strange reason. It's a sixth sense, a small voice screaming in the back of her mind...
'Run! It's not him! He'll kill you! GET OUT OF THERE!'
It's those thoughts that makes her realize that her life is in danger and that Yu's newfound magic is not as powerful as he thinks when he can feel her hands press on his chest and push him away harshly. It's enough to get a good distance between the human and demon.
It all comes crashing down. The beautiful crystal he so coveted to make his, to feed him for that night, tears from him and stands a few feet away. At first he thinks about just grabbing her; after all the soul doesn't need to be alive for him to do the deed...but her voice pierces his darkened heart and light more powerful than any salt or spell cast at him.
Finally, disgust sets in. He feels sick to his stomach. The monster inside slinks away, as he wins this fight, keeping pacing back and forth. He still needs to be fed, but he won't let it be Yukiko. She is too precious. She needs to shine on her own...he's a Fool. A damn fool.
This time when his eyes look at her, they are filled with pain. Genuine, and true.
It's him again. Her guard refuses to go down after that little adventure but Yukiko knows that it's Yu speaking to her, not the monster. She ignores her body's frantic pleas of flight and instead, shaking, walks over and kneels right in front of him.
"That isn't you. It's not your true self." she speaks quietly, a hand slowly reaching toward one of his clawed ones. Even if it's just for a minute, she can't leave him alone.
As much as he feels like he should start again, he wills himself to quiet the voice again. There are limits that he won't cross, and won't try anymore, and the beast knows that he'd rather destroy himself than one of his friends, now that he realizes what he was about to do.
That doesn't stop the fact that he's hungry. He's in a half daze, as a few tears stream from his eyes, but they quickly evaporate from his skin.
"Thank you...I don't want to lose you." He gently squeezes her hand, still kneeling on one hand, looking like a knight swearing fidelity to her. As he's about to say something else, the screams of townsfolk nearby and the whispers of "DEMON!" fill the air.
Of course. He's made too much noise by now. Someone probably saw him nearly destroy one of his friends...there was no way he could explain what had happened. He was probably marked for the rest of his stay here. He didn't mind that, really...
"Damn." But as much as he wanted to stay and fight, his drive to protect his friend was overcoming everything. She was an anchor in his darkness, and he nearly stupidly destroyed her for it. He used his claws to push himself up the wall, the hooves surprisingly helping him find his footing as he opened his wings, getting ready to glide away.
He does need to go before the townsfolk decide to catch him and try to kill him. Yukiko doubts even speaking to them would help the situation and since she's new, she may not get a warm reception either.
The voices are still far away. Enough time for him to shake his head.
"No, you need to stay here. Live your life and enjoy it. I don't know where I'm going but..." He looks up to the moon again. "...its filled with too much darkness for the moment. I need to...eat something."
"Would you be saying the same thing if we were in each other's shoes?"
Damn the townspeople, damn whatever made him change, damn it all! She doesn't care at this point.
"I can't live my life if someone I care about is hurting! It's the same no matter who it happens to and I can't run away from it! Friends don't leave each other behind!"
At this point, the only way to make sure she stays is either push her into the crowd coming up or tie her up somewhere.
At this rate, it would be too dangerous for both of them if they stay longer. With an annoyed grunt, he swoops down, grabbing her by both hands before bringing her closer to his neck.
"Grab on."
This is his first flight after all, and now he's got a passenger. What a way to earn his wings. He's just thankful of how light she seems, it barely registers as he climbs up again, the townspeople starting to arrive, then takes off, carefully hiding Yukiko so she isn't spotted, least they assume the worse about her too. Where to, he's not quite sure, but away from here. Maybe into the forest nearby...
She yelps but not enough to make her presence known to the villagers. She did say she didn't want to leave him alone and he's more or less offering.
Yukiko nods and grabs onto the new demon, trying to keep herself from being a burden. She keeps her face buried as Yu takes off and she tries to make herself smaller so no one could spot her. But now...where would they go?
That icon is both perfect do to the wind effect and terrible cause I have an idea where its from
The large wings cast a silhouette in the sky as the figures behind them become nothing but meaningless specks.
"The sky is so calm."
The noise of the city slowly disappears, replaced by the chirps of the creatures nearby, with little light being offered by the moon overhead. He has no trouble seeing, however and flying is an amazing sensation. He feels so free...
A few minutes later, he lands at the edge, the crowd from the other part of the city probably dispersing by now, content to have chased him away. He'd return, of course. Lowly humans like that were beneath him and...no focus on your friend for now.
"I didn't have time to argue, but you'll need to go back," he tells her once he knows it's safe to talk. "You can stay in the city, and I promise I'll come visit when I can. If someone else from the Investigation Team shows up, they need to know what's happening. We have to figure out what's causing all of this."
He's...not sure if he wants to say 'and fix this'. Truth be told, he rather likes this new body.
"But it's not safe in the city for any of us. The natives look at us like they know something we don't. It's like they're expecting us to do something but I have no clue what."
She's torn and he has good points but it's like whatever brought them there wanted them to suffer for some reason. There's also another reason: not wanting to be alone. How long should she need to wait in that awful place before someone does show up?
"Then the natives will LEARN their plac--" he stops, putting a hand on his face. "--sorry. But I'm not sure if they knew or not. After all...why would they have waited until we transformed?"
It seems odd to want to start killing after.
"If you wear what they wear, you can easily pass for someone in town. The population is large enough so that not everyone knows everyone else and the other towns come to visit too. It's safer than here at night. It won't be an issue once you've..." He trailed off, not wanting to say it out loud like it could somehow stop the process. He wasn't sure if it would happen at all; maybe he was the only one with this curse...but no they'd all come here with the bites and scratches.
Then, as a sort of strange way to try and be supportive, he puts one of his wings over her back, the wing's tip right over her shoulder.
"We'll figure out what's going on," he repeats...just as that hunger begins again. He quickly moves a little farther away from her, the sweat on his brow evident.
"I need to go eat," he growls in a low hum. "But I can't leave you just like this. Do you think you'll be fine for an hour by yourself?"
She's not a kid. If something dangerous came up to her, she would either run or throw rocks at it. Yukiko looks up and sees that expression on his face, wanting to tell him that he could wait for food but the fact remains that he isn't human anymore. It...is for the best to not stop him before he ends up turning on her.
Her permission granted, he gives out a small laugh, devoid of any humor.
"Don't worry about my safety." Worry about that of others. He places a clawed hand on her chin, giving her one final, somewhat gentle look, before turning around. The ground shook as he took each powerful step in a run, before jumping and flying off into the skies. Without thinking about it, letting the demon take over again, he roars in the sky, scanning the nearby village to see what poor soul had stupidly decided to be out and about at this hour...
...he knew it wouldn't take too long. Just one..or two...maybe three, then he'd be full.
She would worry about everyone to be honest. But she would worry about her friends much more. She watches him take to the sky and hears the roar come after, reminding Yukiko of what he has become and she can't take it lightly.
All she can do is take cover and make sure she stays alive until he gets back.
