SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[ This is strange, but there's one element that bothers Rey above all. ]

I don't think there's any reason to consider someone a monster just because they're not human.

[ But wait. Give her a second... ]

...What was that about eating people?

[ His ear twitched. ]

Hey. Who says I ain't human?

[ He'd still answer her question, though: ]

Werewolves, they're supposed to eat people. At least accordin' to the Fog God. Same as with other monsters, although some get off luckier'n others.

[ Huh? ]

I-- You don't-- [ She swallows, trying to keep from stumbling over her words. ] I'm sorry, I assumed. You don't look like any human I've ever seen before.

The Fog God makes people eat each other? That's horrific!

[ Now the tips of those white-furred ears drooped a little, and when he spoke again, he sounded just a touch discouraged. ]

That bad, huh? I'm actually one of the more human-lookin' monsters, ya know. But I suppose I'd think the same thing if I'd just showed up here.

She does -- for as long as she's got a hold on us. The upshot about that is it ain't necessarily permanent. I look normal on clear days. Doesn't change the hunger, though.

I'm sorry, [ She says again. ] I didn't mean it in a bad way. There are plenty of people where I come from who aren't human. That doesn't make them any less of a person. I'm not anti alien like some people are.

[ Like the First Order sympathizers.

She isn't sure what to say about the last part. The thought of people being forced to eat each other... It's barbaric. Not even the Sith would stoop so low. ]

What... Is there any way to escape from her? To leave this place?

It's fine, I was just --

[ Oh. Hmm. ]

There're people tryin', but nothing permanent so far. Last year, Marco managed to send a couple of us through a portal, and let us take a gander at what was goin' on back home.

There are some places outta her influence, though.

[ Ah, a bite on his line. Majima gave the rod a sharp tug, then started reeling in whatever was on the other end. ]

Felfri, for instance. Granted, that wasn't home, either, but when we got dropped out there, no one was a monster any more.

[ Rey commits that name to memory. Felfri. She'll research it more later. ]

Something about that place... Reverted the changes that had been done to you?

[ She wonders if it has anything to do with the Force. She hasn't been able to sense the Force ever since she woke up here. Maybe the Fog God is cutting people off from it somehow? Creating a dead zone, or something like it. Rey doesn't even know if that's possible on so large a scale. ]

I take it you couldn't stay there.

Yeah. It's probably since there was a different god in charge out there. I had my old strength back there, too -- although that went up in smoke once we got dumped back here again.

A bunch of Fog nuts couldn't take the wait, or else we would've spent a couple more days out there.

[ He grimaced a little at the memory, then paused in what he was doing. ]

By the way, you've never done this, have ya? Want to try reelin' this one in?

[ There's something about what he said that strikes a chord with Rey. ] "Your old strength?" So you've been cut off from something, too.

[ She'd been concerned when she couldn't sense any connection to the Force. But if it's not just her... Well, she doesn't know what that could mean.

She's almost too distracted to hear his next offer. ]

What? Me? Erm... Sure. I'll give it a go.

That's right. She takes that away from anyone who shows up here. Otherwise, I'm sure we would've found a way out already.

[ But look, important things first. Carefully, Majima handed her the rod and indicated how to work the reel. ]

Feels like a pretty good size to me. It'll make a dash for it every now and then. I'd reel in the line in between bursts, when it's tired itself out for a minute... but it's up to you how ya want to handle it.
