SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

(Johanna dropped her hands and looked at Rey plainly. Kinda cute. Reminded her of Katniss a bit. If Johanna was a robot, her HUD would display: A DUMMY, BUT POTENTIAL FOR SOMETHING? FRIEND...SHIP?)

Sorry, sweetheart. I was flippin' the bird at those assholes trying to give me paper. Do you know how many trees have to die for paper? Goddamn. Also what the hell are they talking about? I'm asking you because you look like you know something. DO you know something?

[ Rey's been just as confused about all the paper. Why don't they use datapads like a normal person? ]

I only know what I've heard. I just woke up here, same as you, I'm guessing.

(Johanna has a tree obsession, sorry.

She looks satiated at this response.)

Oh. Okay. All right, you wanna team up? (She raises one eyebrow. Normally, teaming up wouldn't be a thing she does. But after the whole ... making an alliance thing and being a soldier alongside Katniss... yeah we can try that.)

Johanna Mason, don't wear it out.

[ Rey seems to weigh this idea for a moment, before deciding that in such a foreign environment, it can't hurt to have more allies. ]

Sure. I'm Rey.

[ No last name given. No last name she wishes to claim for herself. ]

(Johanna shoots finger guns at Rey and says her name a lot longer than it should be.)

Raaaaaaaay. Ray. Rey. Okay. What have you figured out so far? Because I ain't got shit.

They say we're brought here by someone calling herself the Fog God, and that she transforms the people she captures into "monsters" [ can you hear the air quotes? ] who have to eat humans to survive.

[ Rey isn't sure how much of that she believes. To her, all these nonhumans just look like other sentient races. There's no reason to call someone a monster just because they have fur or horns. ]

Also, whatever abilities you had access to before you arrived here don't work anymore. That part I found out the hard way.

Abilities like what? (Johanna doesn't realize she means supernatural superhuman things, not skills. She's a smart girl but she's under a lot of stress.)

You don't think we'll become monsters?

Have you ever heard of the Force?

[ She's sort of realized by now that not everyone is from the same place as she is, so maybe not everyone knows about the Force. ]

I don't know. I don't really understand how it works?

The force of what? Gravity?

(Johanna's looking at her like they're losing charades in front of the in laws.)

N-no... The Force. The energy field which binds all things together.

[ She understands not believing in the Force, but not even knowing what it is? Is weird. ]
