TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

TDM: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

"If it's all a prank, I'd have to give them credit for apparently managing to get the whole town in on it. That's some dedication." Given what he knows of human nature, if it were all a ruse there would have to be at least a few people out there being killjoys and trying to set things right, or at least some bad actors failing to sell the lie.

"Monsters aside, we're still left with the mystery of how we got here in the first place. I don't know about you, but this place is unlike anywhere I've been before in my life. They've got these torches that are fueled by lightning everywhere, for one thing and that's not even getting into all the stuff I haven't asked about yet." It's enough to make him wish he were someone more like Lysithea or Linhardt with a head for this kind of thing. If he could figure out how to bring just one of these bizarre inventions back to Fódlan with him, he can't even begin to imagine how the world would change.

But that's all getting a little ahead of himself.

"I'm guessing you've got about as much idea of where this place is as I do."

'Torches fuelled by'--

Lamps? Does he mean lamps??? And here Dio thought he was behind on the times given what he's heard about Bavan; what century is this fellow coming from!?

His shock scrunched up on his face is pretty obvious for a moment, and he's actually quite pleased with the direction of this conversation because of it. Having a hypothetical range on the range of dates arrivals may come from has to be at least somewhat valuable information, so for the sake of building that sort of timeline, he'll divulge a bit of his own personal details.

"Correct," he chirps. "The dates themselves are nonsensical; this place hasn't even reached the third century, and yet their technology is more advanced than my own home's? It's perplexing - preposterous, even."

He folds his hands and side-eyes Claude. "Though it seems that my home was still further along than yours. Where might you come from?"

That skeptical look just confirms what Claude already suspected - that this guy was from somewhere far away from anywhere he's ever known. It had already been pretty apparent in the way he was dressed, but the extra assurance doesn't hurt.

"Maybe it's not so much that the dates don't make sense as they're based around different events. They've got different gods here, by the look of it, so it makes sense they'd count their years by different milestones." Could be that this place's calendar isn't based around acts of god at all, for all he knows. Now wouldn't that be something?

"Me? I'm here from the Imperial Year 1180," he says, affecting a degree of mock formality and taking a (still seated) bow, as only seems fitting when doing something as ridiculous as acting as a representative of all of Fódlan after washing up on the shore of a foreign land that may or may not be centuries in the past. "And I hail from the Leicester Alliance." Straightening his back, he drops the act and glances back over at Dio.

"But you've never heard of it, have you? Or maybe you have, and we're some strange backwater on the other side of the world to you."
