TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

TDM: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Ever positive, Reira shakes her head. "Mn! Not that! They're just different. Like mine," she adds, her own clothes very out of place themselves. "No one wears clothes like what you have though," the child explains, looking around to be extra sure.

"Um...I don't think so, at least." Maybe a few of the people in Dyster, not that she'd have seen.

"...What's a Laundress?"

Javert looked at Reira like she had suddenly sprouted an extra head, which was not altogether much more severely than he'd been looking at her.

"A laundress. Washer-woman. Clothes-cleaner. A woman who launders," Javert prompted flatly, grasping each alternative definition of the word laundress that came to mind. "I still have some scant coin in my pocket, surely that can cover a good wash."

i had to look up when coin-op laundromats were invented but it was worth it-

Fortunately she's used to those looks, though admittedly they're normally for when she's done something more childish than even typical.

"Oh. ...Why not just wash them on your own then?" she starts, blinking. "I mean... ...There's 'laundromats' if you don't have a machine, right? So you just put it in the machine..."

On the one hand, Reira's clearly understood what was meant by a laundress. She supposes on her end that it's something like having a maid. That's very fancy, but personally rather silly. Or maybe it's more like those cleaning services she's caught a glimpse of while in Bavan- she wouldn't know, since the housework is typically done by the people living In the house she's at.

Just as she's busying herself explaining about laundromats however, she pauses. "Oh no..."

Oh no. "...Um...I don't think they'll take money that isn't from here though..."

She's not really sure if normal people would either, let alone the coin-op machines. But, maybe later.

I go into innumerable google search holes, I get it ;)

Javert was blank when Reira started chattering about machines. He clearly had no earthly idea what she was prattling on about. In his day, you were to pay a washer-woman to launder your clothes for you. Sometimes, if you were lucky to happen upon a deal, the landlord of your tenement would have an arrangement with a washer. There was no such invention as a laundromat or a washing machine.

"I shall need a bank, then, to exchange my coins. What country is this? Prussia?" He frowned, looking around. It did not look Prussian, but what else was within the realm of plausibility?

they're so good....but also they are quicksand...

She is mercifully patient.

Or at the very least oblivious. (It is probably the latter)

Reira's never heard of Prussia. It sounds a bit like Russia, which Tsukikage told her her birth language came from (despite it not being her birth country, but that line of thinking is going far too off track for her to dwell on). But! "No. This is Ryslig."

Ah yes, a country that....Does not exist...

"I didn't know you could exchange coins at banks though. Normally people who come here go to places that take metal, I think." That or they suffer and cry about paper and plastic. Being 7 when she arrived, this was very much not a problem she had Ever.

Javert was merely exhausted. He perceived he was going nowhere with this ... he hesitated to call it a girl, despite her girlish behavior. No banks, no clear bearings for where he has ended up, no local currency to his name. And, unfortunately, he was still abundantly alive with too many witnesses and not enough of a care to make a second attempt at death. He gave a sigh, his broad nostrils flaring.

"Then show me to an adult man that will speak with a stranger. There must be someone."

There is a bit of a twitch in her brow when he says that.

She gets the distinct impression he doesn't believe her.

To be fair most don't believe the adults either, she supposes. Crossing her arms she gives the matter some thought. "...I can't bring you to anyone here," she finally says. "I don't know anyone here who would talk to one of 'us', or at least have answers..." Granted, the answers might not be taken as answers either but still.

Javert is in for a rude surprise when he finally tries to 'bite the bullet' on that death matter though. "...I could try to find Tsukikage..." Who is, technically a large spider person, but she can just let Javert handle that if she finds the guy. Not her problem.

It has little to do with whether he believed her or not and all to do with the lack of clarity. Javert understood nothing of what has happened to him and where he ended up. He wanted someone to be straight and transparent about everything he needed to know in a way that made some damn sense, and he would prefer that information to come from another recognizable human being.

"No matter," he muttered. "You have given me something to go on, more helpful than the bag of bones with the rifle who greeted me first, or the hags who thrust these things upon me." He refers to the pamphlets in his hand. "Show me to Tsukikage, and I will speak to him."

we can end it here, and good thing too -stares at upcoming arrivals-

At the very least, Reira looks a little pleased about the fact that she was able to do SOMETHING. So with a beaming nod, she abruptly opens her wings up- "Ok! I'll go find him, and bring him back!" she decides, taking off without much notice beyond that.

Unfortunate, truly, since the chances of re-finding Javert are fairly slim.
