TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

TDM: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

"Probably. I understand it must feel... alienating, but, well, in some other towns, the reaction might be more hostile. So, for whatever it's worth..."

As it turns out, Marco isn't sure how to finish the sentence. He just sort trails off awkwardly as he tries to take a look at the pamphlet the man is holding.

"So, what do you have there?"

Alienating. He's actually biting back a laugh and using his free hand to tip the brim of his hat down to hopefully hide that expression on his face. Honestly, there's very little that could bother him when it comes to that sort of thing anymore. Once he's pulled himself back together he's slowly shaking his head, a little more relaxed than he previously was.

Until he's asking the question of what he has and he's just moving that hand behind him as if that will suddenly stop it from existing. That's not remotely how it works, but he can pretend.

"Ah, nothing important... Just one of these ridiculous things, something just sounded a little too familiar. But that is... rather impossible for it to be what I think." All of the vampires and zombies were dead, as was Dio, or... well, he sure hoped that was the case at this point.

Marco frowns. He may not know who this man is, where he came from or what he's so clearly worried about, but there's something there. Something he isn't sure he should prod at.

"Well, ah, if it's the trouts, those don't really exist here."

He does not think the fur-bearing trouts are what's troubling the man.

It's something he's not terribly interested in talking about, given the source may or may not be dead as far as he's aware. The problem could end up here, in theory, which would bring more trouble than it would be worth and to people who just wish to live their lives. Or so he assumes.

Fur-bearing trouts would honestly be more of a reprieve than anything else.

"How unfortunate, that would at least prove entertaining." If not extremely awkward, but there could be some way to milk that if it were truth.

Perhaps... it would be better to ask someone from here questions, since he's getting most of nothing from the ones he'd been talking to before.

"These pamphlets, they aren't lying about turning into... creatures, then?" Even the humanoid monsters are still monsters, right?

"I'm afraid not."

Marco's smile is not only sympathetic, it goes right into apologetic. It's not like this is something he ought to apologise for, personally, but it's a smile he's given to plenty of newcomers.

"I used to be human, just like any other monster you'll meet here. I... know it's a lot to take in."

Especially as soon as you get into the dietary changes.
